Gender Critical MNers Gathering Together On Twitter.

OverthinkingSpartacus · 10/03/2017 19:43

Creating this thread for those who want to follow/share/connect/engage with other gender critical MNers on Twitter after the suggestion was made on this thread to group together there to raise awareness of our concerns around the possibility of gender self identity replacing gender reassignment in the uk and trans ideology etc.

If you'd like to take part then please Pm me your Twitter name, over the weekend I will compile a list of MNers Twitter names and PM them back out to everyone on Monday. As it'll be an ongoing thing, I will add other Twitter handles that are sent after Monday and send updated lists via PM. Only your Twitter name will be given to other MNers and I won't share your MN username alongside your Twitter account with anyone.

If you know of any other public Twitter profiles that are openly gender critical such as Magdelan Burns, please feel free to share their Twitter names too and I shall add to the list.

Before you sign up for Twitter you will need an email or phone number for verification.
Understandably, many don't feel safe linking personal phone number or personal emails to gender critical posts so it might be best to create a separate email address for social media sites etc where you want to speak about concerns raised in the other threads. Gmail, outlook, yahoo are three sites off the top of my head that provide free web based email accounts.

When you click on sign up in Twitter it will give the option of signing up with a mobile number as a default but if you scroll down a little, there's an option to "use email instead"

Following this link should take you to the sign up page with the email option already selected.

If you are worried about your IP address being used to locate you, you can use VPN (Virtual Private Network) software/services that camouflage your actual IP and make it look as if you are accessing the Internet from elsewhere. I use an Android app called VPN master which can be downloaded from google play and once installed, it's just a case of opening app and and switching it on and accessing Internet as usual. You can have the VPN running all the time but it can drain battery so I open app and turn back off after using. There should be similar apps for iOS and Windows, I will link them in later post if I get time.

I can create a bunch of email and Twitter accounts for people if they are struggling, but wont be able to do it until Monday. I'll be less active online over the weekend but wanted to get the thread up so that people can start PMing their Twitter names.

@djbaggysmalls Just setting up my Twitter account, please drop by and say Hi Smile

Maybe mumsnet won't be happy with putting MN in A hashtag.

How about #Spartacus. It was born here it would be nice to spread that word. And people here definitely recognise it.

WobblyLegs5 · 12/03/2017 07:47

Ahhh so now my Twitter account I've never had problems with is now not letting me log in unless I fill in my phone number because of 'abuse' or something??? Shouldn't have changed my email : (

WobblyLegs5 · 12/03/2017 07:49

If i fill in phone number will I be able to delete it straight after?

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 12/03/2017 09:07

I've followed a few of you, thanks for adding me! Working this weekend but will pop by and say hello later. I like the #Spartacus hash tag, it is recognisable by other MNers, but Agree that whatever we choose needs to be short to fit in with the character count.

Datun · 12/03/2017 09:35

#spart

Shorter, but still a fairly secret shorthand for what everyone thinks.

Are you back in wobbly? Twitter seems to get a bit twitchy if you add too many followers at once

So I made my third account. I set it up, added some of the suggested follows and nothing more. Got up to make coffee and when I came back it was locked.

Fuck twitter.

MercyMyJewels · 12/03/2017 10:55

There will be an algorithm looking for patterns of activity. I was locked out yesterday because I was following the accounts of a tweeter I admire and I guess I was adding them too fast. I set up another one and have taken my time adding. So far so good.

Fortheloveofscience · 12/03/2017 11:36

Thisisouting I agree. As much as I've enjoyed reading all the gender critical stuff since I joined I do feel like I'm in an echo chamber or just seeing transactivists/radfem arguments.

How do we move forwards with this

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 12/03/2017 11:47

Has anyone went with the suggestion from the other thread of using a masculine sounding handles/ names? Because oddly 👀, men don't get as much stick for expressing similar views/ are taken more seriously?

I had set up an account with a very female sounding handle/ name and now I'm wondering...

WobblyLegs5 · 12/03/2017 12:02

I haven't added anyone yet, I've been on Twitter for ages, when I changed the email it then stopped me going in saying something about 'abuse' and insisting I fill in my phone number first. I emailed twitter to ask why & they didn't answer me! If I fill in my phone number can I then delete again after so I can keep everything private? Ahhh I hate technology!

WankingMonkey · 12/03/2017 12:52

Is everyone who is getting blocked using VPN? I am wodnering if that might have something to do with it. I moderate on another forum and its ridiculously easy (in most cases) to tell if someone is using a VPN/proxy and we ban all accounts that do as we have massive issues with terrible trolls so only allow 'real' IP signups...

MercyMyJewels · 12/03/2017 13:06

I'm not on a VPN and I was banned when I first tried to set up a new account yesterday. And I already have a twitter account, been on since 2010 I think, but wanted to have one specifically for this. So I logged out of twitter, created a new email and new twitter account and looked at the followers of a gender critical feminist and started to follow lots. Then I was locked out. So I set another one up and have added no more than three at a time and it's been ok. I do think it's an algorithm trying to prevent automated accounts being set up

WobblyLegs5 · 12/03/2017 13:12

What's vpn?

MercyMyJewels · 12/03/2017 13:25

Virtual Private Network - basically a secure 'pipe' that you send your data down

Thisisouting · 12/03/2017 13:44

I posted this on one of the other threads but it's probably better here.

How does everyone feel about selecting 1 article or news story a day in the run up to the 24th which we all promote, tweet to MPs, media, famous figures.

If we have a targeted campaign to highlight how women's freedoms are being eroded by the trans movement we might start to chip away and seep into the wider social consciousness.

If someone gets branded a transphobe or dismissed/ shut down another one of us picks up the baton like hydra they cut off one head 2 grow in it's place Grin

It'll also make it harder for the TA because we will have safety in numbers they can't troll us all.

WobblyLegs5 · 12/03/2017 13:46

OK, still doesn't make much sense to me I'm afraid!

Do you know if I fill in my phone number to sort this twitter thing can I them delete it to keep privacy?

I deleted my twitter account after about 5 years once I started making gender critical tweets. I was overrun with threats of violence, rape and threats to 'find out who you are TERFY bitch'. Its actually scary. I deleted the whole account as there were things that may have been a bit identifying and I was actually scared for my family (and myself but less so). Even under an anonymous account I am not sure I could stomach the amount of vitriol that gets sent to anyone who questions any part of this. Just a warning for those who are doing this I guess...the hate is VERY real and expect it so it doesn't shock you as it did me. I was actually in tears reading some of it. Haven't signed into my reddit account for a few months for much the same reason...inbox blowing up with violent threats.

Anyone who hasn't seen this site, have a look through.

You will get this, and worse.

Good luck. I may join you all soon.

MercyMyJewels · 12/03/2017 13:57

Good Idea this

Wanking Yes that's why I created a new account. Tbh I am expecting threats but I am also quite fearful of it. But I feel I need to do something about this. It's the biggest threat to women I have ever known
