'Those who have lived as men, with all the privileges that entails, do not have the shared experience of growing up female.'

Brave and interesting article in the Times.

Link here behind pay wall I think

You've got to be kidding if you think Helen Lewis is of any use

She tweeted some guff about how transitioning to a woman is like immigrating to another country and taking citizenship

Is it fuck

PippaPepperpot · 05/03/2017 12:27

Trans people have groups who speak out for them - Trans Media Watch, Stonewall. But still, after all these years, women are lone voices defending themselves. And we get shouted down at every turn.

In addition to being brave, I think it's a tactically astute move by Jenni Murray. Either she'll get the message out there without too much flak or the TAs will go completely overboard and reveal themselves and the dishonestly and nastiness that lies just beneath the surface.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 05/03/2017 12:36

bev, you are so right. Why is there no organisation speaking out on behalf of women? It puts it into stark relief how little women's concerns matter. Something like the WEP should be all over this.

childmaintenanceserviceinquiry · 05/03/2017 12:36

Sory I am going to sound dumb. Who is India Willoughby? I have nt been in the outer wilds for decades - I just dont have a clue who she is.

Boofeckinghoo · 05/03/2017 12:39

Great article. This needs to be the start of a snowball.
The comments have a couple of mansplainers telling women they're doing feminism/being female/fucking existing wrong...
And as for India Willougby ODFOD.

Datun · 05/03/2017 12:41

Jenni Murray was very smart in talking to Miranda Yardley.

She has basically said transactivists are nut jobs and their demands are insane, real transwomen don't think like that.

She has put a transactivism in the madhouse where it belongs, and transwomen like Yardley, as a distinct, but separate entity.

I feel so dirty, I agree 100% with the top 'green arrowed' comments on a daily mail article :D

I kinda love this quote from a trans campaigner

One campaigner, Stacey, from the support group TransLiving, said trans women would be ‘really, really offended’.

She added: ‘In their minds, they are real women.’

In their minds indeed. Not in reality.

AltheaThoon · 05/03/2017 12:42

The WEP are a joke when it comes to standing up for women. They should be all over this, but they won't be.

India Willoughby is a mtt. Was a weather reporter before transition, now a Loose Woman and...well, I'm not sure what else. Appeared on WH recently stating that unshaven legs on women are 'dirty'.

FirstShinyRobe · 05/03/2017 12:43

There is no organisation speaking out for women because they all forgot to centre women and the trans agenda now dominates. All of us took our eye off the ball and now it's almost too late. The early 2000s were the key time.

Well done, Jenni.

Lottapianos · 05/03/2017 12:43

'Something like the WEP should be all over this.'

Very true. Where on earth are they on this?!

AltheaThoon · 05/03/2017 12:45

Lottapianos I think they're on the side of mtt being women so...

venusinscorpio · 05/03/2017 12:47

MercyMyJewels, that's a big difference between women and mtt isn't it? A 50+ mtt poses in a skimpy dress while making a duck-face and people fawn over them and tell them they're 'all woman'. I can just imagine the shit a 50+ year old woman would get for posing like that! Imagine JM or GG having similar profile pictures!

YY. On gendertrender they've called it "ugly man privilege". It isn't very nice to call anyone ugly, but there's some truth in it as far as the privilege goes.

Its not something middle aged average looking women do as women are socialised not to "flaunt" or show themselves if they think they'll be considered not aesthetically pleasing enough. It doesn't apply to men in the same way.

PoochSmooch · 05/03/2017 12:47

She tweeted some guff about how transitioning to a woman is like immigrating to another country and taking citizenship

What rubbish. It's more like colonisation - it's going to another country, taking charge with force and telling them that you're now the definition of a native of that country. Then calling the indigenous population bigots and threatening suicide if they don't agree Hmm

Anyway, BIG THUMBS UP to Jenni! A great article. And I am also quite shocked at the naked misogyny and ageism that people who disagree with her seem to think is an appropriate response.

Lottapianos · 05/03/2017 12:47

Oh FFS, that's really disappointing. I love Sandi Toksvig so extra gutted. I just don't get how so many people who should know better are blinded by the emperor's new clothes

Kennington · 05/03/2017 12:48

There is an article on the guardian website today about the next step in the fight for equal rights.
Is an eye opener: lots of great points and nothing about this.

nauticant · 05/03/2017 12:52

Having had a look through twitter about this I'm struck by how many of the self-declared trans people, many of whom appear to be late teens/early twenties, have the word "nerd" on their profile/bio.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/03/2017 12:53

I know exactly where the WEP will be on this. Condemning Jenni Murray for being nasty to the poor transwomen, right along with Maria Miller & Caroline Lucas.

WEP are very clear on their stance about this. A woman is anyone who identifies as one and if you disagree you're horrible. They fought for violent transwoman Tara Hudson to be moved to a women's prison, seven-inch surprise and all, although I don't know if they've commented on Lian Huntley yet. I consider them hypocrites.

venusinscorpio · 05/03/2017 12:54

Yes, exactly.

LumelaMme · 05/03/2017 12:55

Star for Jenni Murray. Bloody old India needs to show Jenni some respect.

I was another one who nearly had a fit at the Now Show this week. I was so cross that I turned it off.

venusinscorpio · 05/03/2017 12:56

The "Whatever Equality Party" as people put it when we had those guest posts from them and they made such a lame copy and paste response.

nauticant · 05/03/2017 12:57

This made me laugh:

AltheaThoon · 05/03/2017 13:01

venusinscorpio Interesting that it's so common amongst mtt that it has a name. That's so true about women not doing or saying certain things if they don't seem themselves worthy of attention. A friend of mine was talking about sexual harassment and when she referred to it as happening to 'us' she would qualify it with 'not that anyone would be doing it to me personally'. She was almost saying 'dont worry, I'm not saying im attractive enough to be sexually harrassed'. It's shit.

CaptainWarbeck · 05/03/2017 13:07

What did Sandi Toksvig say about JM? Can someone post a link?
