'Those who have lived as men, with all the privileges that entails, do not have the shared experience of growing up female.'

Brave and interesting article in the Times.

Link here behind pay wall I think

Honestly these men need to check their privilege!

Hopefully, the article will get picked up and rebroadcast for free.

I'm wondering if she just had enough of India W on her programme, because which ever way you cut it up transactivists really don't like women very much. It becomes very obvious as soon as you call them out on any aspect of their demands. The abuse starts and it becomes just the same old claptrap as from any other men's rights activist.

MorrisZapp · 05/03/2017 09:41

Nobody gets to call Jenni vile. Let the world see these people for what they truly are, ie rank misogynists.

No liberal journalists are ever going to nail jenni Murray and she knows it.
All respect to the trans community and their needs but the mangling of language and misuse of science is so so damaging to our children.
For an adult to transition is one thing but to encourage children is tantamount to abuse. Particularly when they are fed lies about playing with dolls and having long hair means they are another sex.
eg. For a teen girl to hate their body (I certainly was disgusted by my periods!) and to think the solution is to mimick being male. This is where we are failing our children horribly.

Violetsunflower - the video is worth watching the whole way through.

shinynewusername · 05/03/2017 09:59

Being discussed on Broadcasting House now but I have had to turn it over because I can't bear yet more BBC TA propaganda. Still fuming about the fucking Now Show yesterday - yes, let's get a bunch of middle aged blokes mocking women's safety concerns Angry

shinynewusername · 05/03/2017 10:00

Comments under Murray's article overwhelmingly positive btw

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/03/2017 10:04

I've just asked if MN will try to get her for a webchat. Although it took me three tries to get the link right Blush.

Great article. Hope she doesn't get too much abuse.

VestalVirgin · 05/03/2017 10:08

I wonder when "they've gone through trauma" became "that means they're women".

I recently read an interesting article on how femininity is not just forced onto us by patriarchy, but is a direct result of the oppression, a reaction to the trauma. (Makes sense; much of femininity is means to appease men).

If you now claim that "someone who performs femininity" = woman, then a man who has gone through trauma can be defined as woman.

AgonyBeetle · 05/03/2017 10:12

Great article. Hope she doesn't get too much abuse.

She'll undoubtedly get loads of abuse, but I don't suppose she'll care. And she's too senior and high-profile for mainstream commentators not to take her seriously.

And a beautifully lucid article, which speaks straight to the ST-reading mainstream population who haven't really had to think about the issue too closely. Presumably other MSM outlets are likely to pick it up too.

Nice job, Jenni. Star

Fairyflaps · 05/03/2017 10:12

Well done Empress - I was just thinking the same thing. How can we add our voice to your request?

booox · 05/03/2017 10:13

itwas I don't doubt it!

I got 10 min in and - "nailed it!"

Little people interrupting me!

scorpio1981 · 05/03/2017 10:13

I lived next door to a he/she for the entire time they were going through the process of changing from male (electrician) to female (teacher); hormones, surgery, dubious outfits - spray on shorts with skin-tight tee shirt, cocked hat with a feather and high-heeled boots anyone? They were an idiot when they were male and an insufferable moron when they became a woman. Even worse was listening to her 'practicing' with her new bits with various men while her 'wife' was away working in another city. (Cob and the sound travels when the headboard is banging against the wall in case you're wondering). Horrible and in the end I was glad to move house. Personally I don't care one way or the other what your gender is but please, just shut-up about it and Jenni is right.

AskBasil · 05/03/2017 10:19

I thought what Pru Leith said was very revealing. That JM was "unwise" to say this because she will now be horribly trolled.

Not because she's wrong.

Not because it's not true.

Not because it's not valid.

Because she'll be "trolled".

Hmm.

booox · 05/03/2017 10:20

Great film from Jenni, will try to register to read later.

sleighbellend · 05/03/2017 10:23

Can't wait for all the supposedly left-wing men to show their true colours and call for a woman to be fired for expressing an opinion they disagree with.

booox · 05/03/2017 10:23

*Not because she's wrong.

Not because it's not true.

Not because it's not valid.

Because she'll be "trolled".*

Nice bit of victim blaming there.

Women, you're supposed to shut up and put up, lie back and think of Brexit England.

booox · 05/03/2017 10:25

(Ask that was a "I whole heartedly agree" post, I realise the grammar could read differently!)

BookShop · 05/03/2017 10:29

Well done Jenni.

Somerville · 05/03/2017 10:31

I haven't read the whole thing yet (I've just sent DH out to buy me the Sunday Times - I'm past the limit for OL articles this month) but brava to Jenni.

TwoLeftSocks · 05/03/2017 10:37

Just read the whole thing, good article! I hope it raises debate, not abuse.
