'Those who have lived as men, with all the privileges that entails, do not have the shared experience of growing up female.'

Brave and interesting article in the Times.

Link here behind pay wall I think

IW is an idiot. Disagrees with JM but the best argument she has is to sarcastically offer her a make over?!

We'll I'm sat here in DH's jumper, no make up on and unbrushed hair....shit I appear to have woken up as a man today Grin

India my love, it would then have to change its name to TWH. You wouldn't be speaking for me. Because your battles have not been my battles, not those of my niece, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and all my female ancestors.

It would be good to have more female journalists speaking out in this. Helen Lewis, I'm looking at you

Anyway, this India person, surely wouldn't really want a job on the radio where your appearance is completely and utterly irrelevant?

Very very good point dragon.

Twitter is a little grumbly. Bet it explodes when America wakes up.

I might even buy the Times today. Thank you Jenni :)

"Ignorant monster" - lovely.

India willoughby can get frigged

Commenting on Jenni's looks? Very fucking dignified.

I happen to think Jenni is stylish. Very pretty eyes too.

Aaaaanyway, stonewalls reply reads like a game of trans activists bingo... Surprise surprise.

Julie B has it right:

"Misogyny from India Willoughby to Jenni Murray on here. Saying JM has 'been on the sherry' 'needs a makeover' & saying she'll have JM's job."

And then stonewalls response to the article, quote:

"Being trans is not about ‘sex changes’ and clothes – it’s about an innate sense of self. To imply anything other than this is reductive and hurtful to many trans people who are only trying to live life as their authentic selves."

Hmmm well, not according to India.

I actually think, if you really look at it deeply, Jenni is kind of saying the same as stone wall in this para?

looks like I'm joining twitter

Being trans is about being an innate sense of self.

I have an innate sense of self as a woman.

I am not trans.

A trans person does not have the same innate ness as I do.

We are different!!!

Twitter is great Violet. FB is utter shit though

Report
booox · 05/03/2017 12:07

To clarify myself - A trans person does not have the same innate ness as I do.

We have different innate senses of ourselves. I don't claim to ever know what it's like to be trans nor how hard it is. They can't know how hard it can be to be a woman. The issues are different.

As Jenni eloquently and gently says.

(I'm stopping now as have work to do)

Actually, I think it's hilarious that India willoughby has resorted to insults. Jenni's article was dignified and reasonable so all the trans activists have left in their Arsenal is to be nasty. They don't actually address what she said in the article, just go for the jugular instead.

Agree. Maybe stop reducing women to what they wear and look like then? Maybe try not taking away the rights of women to safe spaces and their identity as women with actual breasts that feed babies and can get breast cancer.

Report
Riversleep · 05/03/2017 12:12

I'm glad people are calling out India Willoughby for what she is. A misogynist. If insulting women is all you have left, then you are showing your true colours.

Report
booox · 05/03/2017 12:14

Stonewall are missing the point.

I'm not sure she's lessening being trans as they say.

She's questioning the lessening of being a woman and women's rights. That's the 'vulgarity' she's talking about.

This is what I would love to say to India

Stop putting so much value on what what men and women wear and how they look, then maybe everyone will find it easier to fit into society without having to conform to stereotypes that you yourself perpetuate.

BOOM!

Report
hoddtastic · 05/03/2017 12:18

why does India think women are interested in hearing what he thinks about womanhood? twat.

Report
DianaMemorialJam · 05/03/2017 12:20

Um because he is a mysoginyst. Mansplaining. Making sure all us little women know our place in the hierarchy.

Being trans is a double whammy. Not only was India born male, but she STILL gets to project misogyny onto a much bigger audience than she would have had otherwise.

MercyMyJewels, that's a big difference between women and mtt isn't it? A 50+ mtt poses in a skimpy dress while making a duck-face and people fawn over them and tell them they're 'all woman'. I can just imagine the shit a 50+ year old woman would get for posing like that! Imagine JM or GG having similar profile pictures! IW always seems to do 'The pout'.

Report
DianaMemorialJam · 05/03/2017 12:26

Oh yeah. India has perfectly shaved armpits, pretty dresses, plenty of make up. I'm failing miserably with my hairy legs and collection of men's jumpers.

The fact that I have a vagina is completely irrelevant, right?

Wink
