'Those who have lived as men, with all the privileges that entails, do not have the shared experience of growing up female.'

Brave and interesting article in the Times.

Link here behind pay wall I think

A slightly random derail but I was googling the petition for Jenny Murray to see how popular it was and I came across this (archived) petition:

Since the BBC pander to minorities like women through vehicles like 'Womans' Hour' why can't we have a ''Debonair Man About Town's' hour?

which led to a slight head in hand "fuck me!" moment- that despite being 51% of the population women are seen as a "minority"! Which really demonstrates the thinking behind the backlash against feminism.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 06/03/2017 15:03

Julie Bindel was excellent. I was actually LOLing with her at the end.

BeerMuggles · 06/03/2017 15:37

Watched that. Good for Julie Bindel. Nothing against the trans woman, she came across as being able to argue calmly, but Julie Bindel is just RIGHT.

And to pp lessthanballpark , yes, being a woman is kind of a niche thing! Being male is the default. So it's no wonder trans women who spent their life being the default think they can tell the niche eccentrics what it's all about, really.

WankingMonkey · 06/03/2017 15:41

Yessss..this one article appears to have spawned discussion everywhere. On my FB, in real life, on another forum I frequent. Its all coming out. the extent of the crazyness. A few die hards are still arguing the transactivist line. Most are seeing it for the bollocks it is. For those still on the fence, I am introducing them, to Danielle Muscato and have not been accused of bigotry yet.

BenLinusatemyhomework · 06/03/2017 15:42

ArcheryAnne - Yep exactly that.

What was startling to me was, after watching that interview twice, I still have no clue what Jane's points were other than "women have different experiences". Erm yes, yes they do just none of them are MALE experiences. And her other points were... erm, Germaine Greer is a big meanie? I'm not really sure. Feelz maybe.

Julie on the other hand was clear, concise and on point.

fruitlovingmonkey · 06/03/2017 15:43

Hurrah for Julie Bindel!

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 06/03/2017 15:50

Julie Bindel is wonderful.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 06/03/2017 15:54

And Jane Fae makes no sense at all.

Notwhatiexpected · 06/03/2017 16:07

Now I want to be Julie Bindel!

I loved watching that interview, this is so wonderful for me to see a dream team of brilliant woman, articulating so well what I have been trying to say.

Thank you Jenni and Julie and team Spartacus!!

Datun · 06/03/2017 16:15

I must admit, I have had to watch it twice! Go Julie.

Even the interviewer managed to get in that if you even speak of these issues you get abuse.

As usual, there was zero rationality behind the ideology.

Equating being frightened of Jenni Murray (!) with women's oppression - arf.

booox · 06/03/2017 16:44

Argh link doesn't work!

Is this:

what you're after VIOLETsunflower?

Thecatsmum · 06/03/2017 17:33

I've just been reading FB comments about the article and wish I hadn't. The sheer bigotry towards Jenni and women in general has really depressed me. I don't understand why the trans activists are so precious about themselves but think it's ok to insult and vilify others.

It's the male privilege rearing it's head again I suppose.

Lumbricina · 06/03/2017 18:27

India Willoughby's reaction is here

QuentinSummers · 06/03/2017 18:31

Omg India said it was "fake news"! And a nice bit of ageism thrown in. What an idiot.

AssassinatedBeauty · 06/03/2017 18:33

So much bile in that comment from IW. IW has shoehorned in as many buzzwords as possibly with a light dose of ageism and plenty of personal attacks. IW is also misrepresenting what they said in the Dorchester discussion, and handily forgetting the disgust that they expressed about women with unshaven legs.

Datun · 06/03/2017 18:36

What idiotic response. More cries of bigot and transphobe! Just proving everyone's point, India.

Not a single refutation of a single point. Just abuse.

Idiots.

Datun · 06/03/2017 18:37

AssassinatedBeauty

And forgetting that everyone heard that interview!

jellyfrizz · 06/03/2017 18:37

Interestingly The Guardian initially said the response to Jenni was 'A chorus of protest – and some support –' , now it seems "There was a mixture of disapproval and support".

All the most recommended comments on the first article support Jenni.

Lumbricina · 06/03/2017 18:38

India said that she was going to address Jenni's remarks, but it's mainly just childish insults, calling Jenni "bitchy" and a "pantomime Dame", concluding with "Jenni Murray is a dinosaur and we all know what happened to them. Let's hope a similar extinction is coming for her in the not too distant future."

shinynewusername · 06/03/2017 18:38

What an apt Guardian headline - Kellie is, after all, keen on hitting and strangling women.

venusinscorpio · 06/03/2017 18:40

Yes, more Kellie say I. Kellie is such an awfully convincing woman.
