Call yourself a feminist? Our transgender columnist Juno Dawson's here to see if you really pass the test

And calls women who don't "TERFs". Thanks, Glamour and Jo Elvin, thanks a lot.

And a transwoman saying they were forced into their feminine gender role resulting in them being 'in the grip of feminity and so 'The bottom line is anyone who is oppresed by gender and is subordinated to men is a woman and needs feminism'.

Datun · 05/11/2016 23:44

Surreal and breathtaking.

shins · 06/11/2016 08:01

Ooh I see someone copied and pasted my Female Eunuch quote into the comments, a man no less! (I know he lifted it from here because of the formatting). Well that's good. Glamour magazine needs more Greer quotes scattered around and less brainless mansplaining.

shins · 06/11/2016 08:09

Fairyflaps yes, that's the guy who was quoting Germaine Greer, hilarious! But we all know Greer is a witch who should be burnt at the stake for her demented insistence that men aren't women.

Datun · 06/11/2016 08:15

And the poster he posted it to clearly had no idea who Greer was. On a women's magazine site. About feminism. For women.

Just saying.

IndominusRex · 06/11/2016 08:27

"I've studied authoritarianism for a very long time - for 40 years - and they're started by people's attempts to control the ideological and linguistic territory,"

From this article www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-37875695?ocid=socialflow_twitter

I'm really surprised about Glamour. They seem to have wanted to 'get' feminism lately even if they've been pretty wide of the mark at times. This just proves they don't give a shit. And I've followed Kat on Twitter for years and she always seemed nice and sensible so I'm shocked at her response to this.

IndominusRex · 06/11/2016 08:30

I can't see the comments on that article but heartened by the consensus that they're good.

CharlieSierra · 06/11/2016 08:45

And in the comments on the article we have a man with a female name browbeating another man for being a man
"erm, david, is femalehood really a topic you should be shouting your mouth off about being as how you're a man?
It gets more and more surreal

Is that a bloke? He is also demanding to know how a woman knows her biology!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 06/11/2016 09:10

The irony is that the David bloke who's being mouthed off at actually understands it all far better than the poster who's having a go at him.

MaisieDotes · 06/11/2016 09:11

IndominusRex the comments are worth reading. Other posters have been able to see them by using a different browser, I'm on Safari and I think IE is also good.

ageingrunner · 06/11/2016 09:28

Just saw this on twitter

M0stlyHet · 06/11/2016 09:33

Yes, the "how do you know your biology?" comment was pretty jaw dropping. Lots of good responses though.

Fairyflaps · 06/11/2016 09:33

Is that a bloke? He is also demanding to know how a woman knows her biology!
The term they would use is CAMAB - coercively assigned male at birth, so born male.

It's interesting that Juno Dawson feels perfectly qualified to tell 'cis' women what to do and how to behave but we are not allowed to venture an opinion back.

It's not a dialogue, it's mansplaining in mascara.

I actually feel a bit sorry for Juno after reading this www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/features/relationships/2016/05/juno-dawson-a-day-in-the-life-of-a-trans-woman
They seem so deeply entrenched in masculine/feminine binary. They've changed what they eat for breakfast fgs!
I really can't imagine living a life where my time is taken up with whether what I'm eating is "ladylike" or "gentlemanly". Or having to spend large parts of my day doing make up.
It just seems so restrictive. Sad.

M0stlyHet · 06/11/2016 09:58

Actually, that tweet is pretty scary - as a sort of insight into the mindset of someone who'd like women and their pesky biology to just disappear. It's a dreadful choice of image.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 06/11/2016 10:01

It looks to me like this person was not getting enough work as a male writer so decided to hop on the pink fluffy zeitgeist and go trans. And it seems to have worked. He now has plenty of attention.

ageingrunner · 06/11/2016 10:01

He suggests that parents should tell their children that some people are trans. I'm not going to do that but what I do say is it's rude to stare and rude to ask whether someone is a man or a woman.

TheHiphopopotamus · 06/11/2016 10:01

Why has the tweet been hash tagged with Ian McEwan? What's he done or said?

BratFarrarsPony · 06/11/2016 10:03

" stupid shoes, retouching makeup, white van men trying to lure me into sex -"

cheeky cheeky FUCK - guess what I am a woman who (usually) wears flat shoes and no make up....and no white van man has ever tried to 'lure me into sex'...

It is so insulting on so many levels to ao many people.

ageingrunner · 06/11/2016 10:04

I think Ian McKewan suggested that people with penises are male

M0stlyHet · 06/11/2016 10:09

I just googled Jamie Dawson's "Being a Boy" on Amazon, which has a handy "look inside" section. It's an interesting read in the light of the transition to Juno - specially the paragraph about girls apparently being inducted into a secret sorority of womanhood when they go through puberty, a sorority men can't enter because they don't have periods. I am sitting on my hands attempting not to do armchair psychoanalysis at this point...
