Call yourself a feminist? Our transgender columnist Juno Dawson's here to see if you really pass the test

And calls women who don't "TERFs". Thanks, Glamour and Jo Elvin, thanks a lot.

" Very very few transwomen don't "

really ? I did not know that. The only transwomen I have met (I admit it was only 2) have gone the whole hog and are just living their lives without telling 'real' women how to think or be.

OurBlanche · 04/11/2016 16:36

All trans women are predators? Are you for real? Remember in the eighties when tabloids used to confuse gay men and paedophiles? Have we not moved on?

That just about sums it up! Don't voice any qualms cos you are calling us rapists! Nope. I am not, I am calling you a man! Mainly because you have a penis.

2 years ago I would have said that any trans woman was more than welcome to see herself as a woman. I may even have pointed out that, like many other people, even out here, way outside the free thinking cosmopolitan area that is London, I have trans friends/colleagues.

But the whole TERF / Trans thing has changed all of that. I can't support a group of people who use emotional blackmail to get what they want, no matter who they disenfranchise!

And that is before you get into the question of "Why disenfranchise women when your stated aim is to be one?"

This is not a battle that can be won by anyone... no matter who makes the biggest gains in any law court!

BenLinusatemyhomework · 04/11/2016 16:39

The comments are heartening. I follow Cherry Austin on Facebook as her writing is so clear and intelligent.

FlapsTie · 04/11/2016 16:39

Oh god it's like a comedy. Can Juno really not see the irony here?

Glamour Magazine allows transwoman to redefine feminism
OurBlanche · 04/11/2016 16:40

But I will admit that I am utterly biased... because of her choice of name

Juno was the Roman goddess who protected the nation as a whole but also kept special watch over all aspects of women's lives

Well thank you for your concern, but I think I will decline such patronage!

WhisperingLoudly · 04/11/2016 16:42

I'm raging at this.

Glamour have well and truly drunk the kool aid Angry

WhisperingLoudly · 04/11/2016 16:43

The comments are awesome Smile

IminaPickle · 04/11/2016 16:44

Yeah! Hurrah for the comments. And you don't need to log in to 'like' them, for those of us keeping our heads down.

OurBlanche · 04/11/2016 16:45

I can't see any comments! Is that a good thing?

FlapsTie · 04/11/2016 16:46

You have to scroll right down to see the comments.

msrisotto · 04/11/2016 16:47

Glamour obviously have yet to reach peak trans, but surely they must be close. The comments are awesome.

BratFarrarsPony · 04/11/2016 16:48

sorry but I have to quote from the article -

" Sadly, there are probably women reading this right now who are like, "If it looks and sounds like a bloke, it's a bloke. If it's got a penis, it's a bloke."

yes I think the vast majority of women would think that if someone has a penis then they are a man....Confused

And apart from anything else how can someone be paid for writing, who uses the word 'like' in that way?

OurBlanche · 04/11/2016 16:53

Ah ha! Change browsers....

ladyballs · 04/11/2016 16:56

Call yourself a woman? Our friendly gynaecologist explains the female reproductive system for the hard of thinking. With pictures.

Lottapianos · 04/11/2016 16:56

'This article shows some deep misunderstandings about feminism, and is happy to throw around the term 'real feminist' whilst preventing us from ever using the term 'real woman'. That's a no from me'

From the comments. Good stuff. Glamour really should go and get knotted.

venusinscorpio · 04/11/2016 16:57

Juno isn't being paid for Juno's brilliant writing skills.

BratFarrarsPony · 04/11/2016 16:59

" Juno isn't being paid for Juno's brilliant writing skills."

I should bloody hope that Juno is indeed not being paid for such drivel

OurBlanche · 04/11/2016 17:02

Fuck... last long comment from a man had me a little tiny bit angry...

Listen, not to downplay your struggles but cis women are not the less privileged party in this equation.

Let me count the ways....

boldlygoingsomewhere · 04/11/2016 17:03

Juno was a successful YA author writing as James Dawson before transition.

The dismissal of women's valid concerns in this article is quite breathtakingly arrogant. Heartened to see some of the comments though.

Cocolepew · 04/11/2016 17:07

We should ask for Jo Elvin to come on for a webchat.

ageingrunner · 04/11/2016 17:08

Wow I'm surprised that he was an author pre-transition. I would have thought it was written by an amateur Confused

BratFarrarsPony · 04/11/2016 17:08

" I would have thought it was written by an amateur "

I would have, like, thought that too

BenLinusatemyhomework · 04/11/2016 17:09

OMG! "soz" but Juno needs to like, include like in her, like writing because everybody like, totally knows that you're not a like, a real woman if you don't like, talk like a Valley Gurl!!
