Welcome, everybody.

Happy Friday.

Hi Pubgoers! i think we've all earned a nice cuppa and a piece of cake this week, or a pint and a bag of crisps, whatever your poison is.

Erin, sorry, I had missed your question above to me about MIL. We're quite low contact with her anyway, so I don't have to deal with her often. My husband keeps her at arms length, and did for many years before he met me, so there's not much change since we got together - I think she hoped that when I arrived on the scene, I would make more of an effort than her son does, but I am allergic to that kind of wifework. Ball's in his court.

I am just about over her visit now!

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 21/10/2016 15:02

Hey :) I just had a coffee, but I'm weighing up what time is okay to have a bottle of brothers toffee apple cider. Crap day today - woke up after not enough sleep with a hangover from the champagne (we ran out of wine!), hospital appt all morning which was a long drive away, and now my broken body is playing up more than normal :(

There was something else I was gonna say, but my mind has gone blank.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 21/10/2016 15:32

Hi! I've done what I planned to do workwise so am now just meandering about the internet waiting for DC to turn up from school so we can go and raid the library again...

And easy tea tonight. What is there apart from pizza? I'm not overfond of pizza...

Fuckingitup · 21/10/2016 18:16

DC have gone to their Dads. Just me until Sunday. Am drinking a decaf coffee and thinking about takeaway.

Determined not to mope around as it's half term so lots of lovely extra time with children next week. Wondering whether the new Ken Loach film would be too depressing. Fancy cinema tomorrow. Looks very good.

I hope there are some nice weekend plans in place.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 21/10/2016 18:47

I had a poncy pizza with artichoke and stuff while DS1 had a ham and pineapple one. :)

We have friends coming over this weekend.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 21/10/2016 20:01

Us too neverever. Friend who works for a big food company, so she fills our freezer every time she visits! Grin

NeverEverAnythingEver · 22/10/2016 07:53

Nice, Beyond. :)

It's half term next week. Somehow I can't seem to meal plan for half term. Hmm

FreshwaterSelkie · 22/10/2016 08:28

What on earth is going on with the influx of GFs? Is it bait-a-feminist week or something?

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 22/10/2016 08:42

Definitely. I almost got to the point with the CE threads of copying and pasting my response as it was just one after another after another!!

FreshwaterSelkie · 22/10/2016 08:45

You did sterling work, beyond. More than a lot of the GFs deserved! It's a bit too early for a pint, but am raising my peppermint tea to you.

Xenophile · 22/10/2016 09:12

Sorry to bring the happy atmosphere of the pub down, but I wanted to reshare this (warning for being upsetting) post about unsafe contact orders and what can happen if they go horribly wrong.

I've done it in here because there are so many GFs about right now that I fear they would shit all over it and then I'd have to hunt them down for sport.

Fuckingitup · 22/10/2016 09:49

I remember hearing Claire Throssell on Woman's Hour. Utterly heartbreaking. I always think when I read LTB advice that the DC don't get to leave. The threshold for no contact or supervised contact is high.

HillaryFTW · 22/10/2016 16:28

Waiting for a delayed plane. Everyone else having a nice Saturday?

NeverEverAnythingEver · 22/10/2016 17:16

A relaxing one. :)

Felascloak · 23/10/2016 22:00

Hi pub :) can I have a restorative gin to take the edge off rape apologists?

MostlyHet · 23/10/2016 22:20

Have a triple on me, Felas, so long as I can join you.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that any woman who begins a sentence "I fear for my sons..." is my worst nightmare. And I say that as the mother of a son.

(Actually, I do fear for my son, but not in the way those women mean - I fear whether my influence will be strong enough to overcome the rising tide of toxic masculinity in the culture around him - I hope and pray that my influence and his nice nature will be enough).

Felascloak · 24/10/2016 08:42

Of course mostly.
Yep the "I fear for my sons" brigade are the worst.
Oh by the way there's a thread on what we are reading about m/m literature and some people are recommending fanfic, thought it might be up your street Smile

MostlyHet · 24/10/2016 12:41

Ah yes, very much up my street, thank you.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 24/10/2016 12:47

I agree mostlyhet. I fear for my sons that my input won't be enough and they will go beyond my line in the sand. Because that line in the sand is not movable, and I would utterly disown a son who treated a woman like that.

Felascloak · 24/10/2016 21:25

Huh. I feel like straying outside the trans issues has caused a mass influx of trolls men. Another gin please bar person!

FreshwaterSelkie · 25/10/2016 17:58

More gin over this way please!

You're right about the influx, I've filled my bingo card about fifty times this week. I'm trying to take the positive out of it - it reminds me why I'm a feminist. We really do have a set of corkers at the moment, don't we?

MostlyHet · 25/10/2016 18:04

I'm beginning to feel like hiding on threads about upbeat and harmless topics like kittens and fanfic till half term is over.

Felascloak · 25/10/2016 18:25
Grin It's so tiring. And scary. Hey ho.
SpeakNoWords · 25/10/2016 18:28

Could I join you and have a gin too? I usually enjoy reading the threads here, but the current crop of interlopers are really tiresome at the minute.

Felascloak · 25/10/2016 18:34

Hi Grin
Yes tiresome is one word for it
