Welcome, everybody.

Happy Friday.

OP posts:

I don't understand why critical thought is a bad thing.

No, me neither. I think a lot of these people have never really been encouraged to think about things particularly deeply.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 05/03/2017 21:46

Methodist. Grin

Sorry...

DeviTheGaelet · 05/03/2017 22:12

Suffered a fit of paranoia so I've asked for my posts to be removed Blush

MissingTheVillage · 06/03/2017 15:23

Hello everyone...
Just coming in to nurse a drink in solidarity and try not to cry.

Latest ridiculous, non-science, "sex is such a vague concept" piece of wankery of facebook caused me to flip and speak my mind.

Now I am very frightened of the backlash. I am isolated with mental health problems (in terms of trauma/depression/possible ASD that means I seem to see things clearly that others don't understand!) so speaking out was A Bad Idea, but fgs! I can't say nothing whilst people with private school education spout non-science! This is frightening on a lot of levels.

venusinscorpio · 06/03/2017 16:32

Was it that dumb SCIENCE! clownfish one?

QuentinSummers · 06/03/2017 16:51

Oh ffs I bet it was the worm penis wankery. My 75 yo aunt shared it the other day. It's like, clever science, clever science, clever science, totally illogical extrapolation to an entirely different scenario. Annoying.

MissingTheVillage · 06/03/2017 17:19

Yeh, the clownfish "I'm a science teacher" one...
I just can't understand how otherwise intelligent people are so brainwashed.

AssassinatedBeauty · 06/03/2017 17:53

I just had a look at that science teacher thing, and all they are doing is listing intersex conditions, followed by gender identity ideology with no attempt to base that in any actual science. It's opinion dressed up as science, obfuscated by the science intro about other species which is utterly irrelevant. The conclusion I can draw from this video's popularity is that a frightening number of people lack the ability to think critically.

MissingTheVillage · 06/03/2017 18:07

The trans stuff seems to be endorsed by educated, intelligent people who have demonstrated criticial thinking in other areas! That's what's so terrifying about it. It's like everyone at once has been reduced to the level of an anti-vaxxer.

QuentinSummers · 06/03/2017 18:15

It's like everyone at once has been reduced to the level of an anti-vaxxer.
That's exactly what it is like! People who are generally very analytical and scientific get this weird blind spot and follow the woo!

BasketOfDeplorables · 07/03/2017 20:55

I never thought I'd think PC had gorn mad... are there anymore buckets o'gin going?

HelenDenver · 07/03/2017 21:14

Here you are, Basket!

HelenDenver · 07/03/2017 21:16

Is M0stly here?

QuentinSummers · 07/03/2017 22:01

She's busy posting on trans threads I think.
I feel like we all need a stiff drink tonight.....

HelenDenver · 07/03/2017 22:33

Thanks, Quentin.

IWD tomorrow. Let's drink to that!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 08/03/2017 09:22

I want everyday to be IWD, or none at all.

HelenDenver · 15/03/2017 08:52

Bump

ErrolTheDragon · 15/03/2017 09:10

Well, we obviously haven't all been driven to virtual drink!

HelenDenver · 15/03/2017 09:15

Ooh. Staff.

We are going up in the world!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 16/03/2017 08:47

Just popping in to say a quick 'hello'. I'm currently reading Cordelia Fine's new book 'Testosterone Rex'. It's a really interesting and well researched book on the myths surrounding testosterone and make behaviour. Fantastic debunking of some of the gendered assumptions re risk-taking behaviour and therefore suitability for certain jobs.
