It absolutely wasn't a criticism of you or anyone else, Devi, I am just as likely to respond to intentional goading as anyone else. Hopefully, they will get bored and wander off to whichever part of the internet that they came from originally and we can actually discuss women's issues again without endless "what about the menz" -ing happening.

DeviTheGaelet · 14/01/2017 18:12

On no I didn't take it as criticism don't worry Grin
I wanted to start a thread about some stuff I heard on R5 yesterday about porn addiction but I can't stand the thought of the guys mansplaining why porn is ok to me

HelenDenver · 14/01/2017 18:13

SGM button, Devi?

DeviTheGaelet · 14/01/2017 18:53

Sorry don't get it!

0phelia · 14/01/2017 20:19

Ooh I know!

There was a poster with the initials SGM who suggested to MNHQ that there should be a hide poster button but it was rejected by MNHQ. So instead it was agreed that we could just pretend to hide the poster.

I think you should start the thread Devi. I'm interested in porn particularly it's influence on adolescent sexuality.

HelenDenver · 14/01/2017 20:26

Carry on, Devi, as if you have a virtual hide poster button. You can't see them. Their posts are invisible to you, blending into the background. Like tears in rain.

HelenDenver · 14/01/2017 20:26

That's male tears in rain, natch.

DeviTheGaelet · 15/01/2017 01:31

Ok I will start it tomorrow if I'm not too hungover Confused Wine

PoochSmooch · 15/01/2017 12:50

Can't imagine what could cause deletions in here Confused how strange.

Anyway, I can't have my usual pre-Sunday lunch gin & tonic as I'm doing dry January, and it is pissing me off. I'm having a virtual one in here instead - chin chin!

HelenDenver · 15/01/2017 14:00

Um, I think Devi referred to a poster on another thread.

DeviTheGaelet · 15/01/2017 14:18

Ophelia speculated as to a reason why a particular poster acted as they did and I agreed as did prawn I guess someone took exception to the speculation. I don't think it was an attack but others might have. Never mind.

PoochSmooch · 17/01/2017 19:08

There once was a forum for women
To discuss the sexism we swim in
Then in flooded men
To tell us again
Of the hatred with which we are brimmin'

sigh

DeviTheGaelet · 17/01/2017 19:36
Grin Good one I might do name changing to mess with their heads. Do you think that's against the rules?
ChocChocPorridge · 17/01/2017 19:49

I went on the porn thread, saw two of our be-testicled members going at it, and tiptoed carefully away - in that 'toddler just fell asleep in the middle of the floor after being a nightmare all morning' way...

I'm very guilty of being drawn in normally... but that one was just easiest to avoid.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 17/01/2017 20:03

Me, I'm not saying nuthin... Grin

Xenophile · 17/01/2017 20:07

They really hate both men and women, don't they?

Sad.

(I now sound like Trump ffs)

ChocChocPorridge · 17/01/2017 20:11

Errr... I've just been experimenting.. if anyone's interested, you can hide a poster using a chrome extension and the right XPath expression...

I just blocked Helen (temporarily!) using the following:

'CustomBlocker' chrome extension (just search the Chrome store)

then, when on mumsnet, click the funnel icon in the top right.

Edit the target site, putting a star where you want a wildcard - so I've only blocked in FWR, so my URL becomes:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/*

Then, in the 'Elements to Hide' section, click 'XPath' and enter the following:

//DIV/SPAN[SPAN='HelenDenver']/../..

(substituting the nick you want to block - Sorry Helen! You were just in the middle of my screen when I tried this!)

click save, and now, when you load an FWR discussion, it'll do a little hiccup and hide anyone you've added a rule for...

to add more rules just click 'new rule for this site' and do the same.

I promise I've removed my Helen block now Grin

ChocChocPorridge · 17/01/2017 20:13

PM me if you have hassles, I could probably do some kind of screen recording thing or something (I'm techie by trade, yet have big blind spots around fax machines, and other popular tech!)

PoochSmooch · 17/01/2017 20:16

Very good choc! The virtual hide poster button made real Grin

I have been thinking about shifting to chrome (firefox ain't what it used to be), and if I do, I'll try it.

DeviTheGaelet · 17/01/2017 20:22

Wow! Need to try it

ChocChocPorridge · 17/01/2017 20:23

I bet there's plugins for other browsers (not the app unfortunately) - I used to use one on FireFox when I used it.

HelenDenver · 17/01/2017 21:05

Choc

How awesome!

I forgive you for hiding me!

ChocChocPorridge · 17/01/2017 21:21

Grin Thanks Helen - it was a temporary sacrifice I assure you.

For Firefox, there's 'Yet another Remove it Permanently' plugin (and so, presumably, a 'Remove it Permanently' plugin) that takes XPath block expressions.

It also seems that AdBlockPlus might be able to do XPath blocking too (although it's more involved) if anyone is desparate.
