Welcome, everybody.

Happy Friday.

OP posts:

Oh, yes, I totally agree with you. I assume the Guardian reported the trans issue because everyone else, including the BBC, had done. The BBC is another MSM outlet that obscures the sex of defendants. I think they left it out in their reporting of the Lauren Jeska case.

PoochSmooch · 08/01/2017 17:34

The podcast Secrets, Crimes and Audiotapes is currently serialising an adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale. I'm really enjoying it! Worth a listen.

DeviTheGaelet · 08/01/2017 19:53

Hi all
I feel like the board is swamped in trans threads again. Wondering about posting maybe on feminist support to try to get some non-trans related discussions going. Maybe I am over thinking it

M0stlyHet · 08/01/2017 20:32

It kind of comes and goes in waves, Devi. Maybe try to bump some of the older, interesting threads?

DeviTheGaelet · 08/01/2017 20:35

I've hidden loads of the ones that have derailed so that probably doesn't help

M0stlyHet · 08/01/2017 20:53

Oh gawd, yes, the derailers. I've got several hidden too. Maybe we could get the derailers onto the trans threads, hide them, then talk about other stuff? (Not that I'm anti discussing trans issues - there are important issues, and I'm feeling especially grumpy at seeing my son's non-intersex medical condition labelled as intersex and appropriated for political purposes yet again - but not at the expense of having it take over every other feminist discussion.)

DeviTheGaelet · 08/01/2017 21:52

Yeah I do post on trans threads but there are so many and it all seems so futile

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 09/01/2017 09:29

I wouldn't say it's futile. We have the best arguments because they are factual and although we get pestered by TRA, allies and assorted contrarians we always overcome (though I am getting very tired of a couple of posters.)

DeviTheGaelet · 12/01/2017 19:56

Is anyone reading the MRA thread? The male contributors are talking about incels and it's hurting my head. Interesting insight into how they perceive things. Seems to be a lot about sex

PoochSmooch · 12/01/2017 20:19

I had a look at the thread and then backed out slowly because at the point I looked in, it was being discussed among, as far as I know, four men. I keep typing and deleting here what I want to say about that. Because what's the point?

DeviTheGaelet · 12/01/2017 20:39

Because it's interesting. We can discuss it in here and hope that they don't notice Grin
It's just how the Internet pits men and women against each other, innit

PoochSmooch · 12/01/2017 21:00

Oh, sorry devi, I didn't mean what's the point of your point! I am just feeling a bit disheartened at the derailing and all that, and a bit meh about where some of the debates have ended up recently. January slump...

venusinscorpio · 12/01/2017 21:26

Yes I looked in on that thread. I was going to post something. But decided to leave them to it.

DeviTheGaelet · 12/01/2017 22:08

Yeah but I'd be interested in your take in here! I also decided not to post Grin
No need to apologise pooch

Xenophile · 12/01/2017 22:40

Maybe we can just let the lads talk to each other about their MRA activities? They are getting bloody dull though.

DeviTheGaelet · 12/01/2017 22:48

Yeah. Maybe if we throw them a bone by posting on the thread it will keep them busy and we can get on with feministing Grin

M0stlyHet · 13/01/2017 07:41

Just mosied over and took a look... Good grief. It was like one of those "red pill" discussion groups on Reddit. Mind you, it did rather remind me of the great Jackie Fleming cartoon where a spotty youth is addressing the girl in the scruffy dress and DMs who is clearly JF's cartoon alter ego. Him: You're going to die alone, and friendless, and miserable, and single. Her (with a big smile): And only you could make it sound so attractive.

HelenDenver · 13/01/2017 07:48

Yy to eyerolling at that thread!

0phelia · 13/01/2017 15:47

It's my first time in the pub.
I lurk sometimes.
Looks like a nice place to decompress. Is it out of line to talk about other posters?
It's a shame when this board used to be so vivid and lively to see it getting "dragged through the mud" by a handful of ppl.

Anyone here going on the women's march in March?

DeviTheGaelet · 13/01/2017 15:49

I talk about other posters if they are GFs

HelenDenver · 13/01/2017 15:56

Ooh! Hello Ophelia! Drink?

Helen hello! Is there a spritzer? (It's after midday so totes fine)

HelenDenver · 13/01/2017 16:38

Pours wine, waves soda carafe thingy at it..

Xenophile · 13/01/2017 23:58

I think the only thing to do is just carry on the conversation around them. If replying to them seems a waste of time, why do that emotional work.

It has gone a bit flat of late, but a fair number of people just can't be doing with going through the motions of having to be helpful and polite to people who neither appreciate it nor feel the need to reciprocate those manners.
