Anyone seen Magdalen Berns? She's an Edinburgh student who does some fantastic feminist videos and activism. She is a lesbian and has gone up against Ada J Wells and been banned from the Edinburgh LGBT society. I think she needs our support!

Lass - I have some sympathy with your POV on the most recent video. To mash up some sporting metaphors, Magdalen lands plenty of punches when she plays the ball not the man. (That's a metaphor there, not misgendering MNHQ!)

I see Kua has not pulled any punches. No equivocation, no siree.

No need for snark. Report if you feel it's needed. I have no idea how either refer to themselves or to each other to that end.

Here you go, I've changed it. Is this OK now?

They are both transwomen and one of the the transwomen is upset with how manly one of the them is presenting.Tis mad..

Damn. Should have gone with one of these too Wink So much gets lost in translation.

She does and she has taken Meyer on in the past and I'm sure she will do so in the future but don't underestimate the value of short term unlikely alliances.

How bad can this be for 2 such unlikely people both to speak out?

Both Muscato and Meyer declare themselves women, just because one looks more feminised than the other means nothing

Well away from the FWR board I think you will find many people who would think it means quite a lot and that Meyer and Muscato are not the same.

Lass, I respect your opinion on a lot of things but I don't agree. Magdalen is spot on. She isn't going to collaborate with Meyer because that's the whole point. Meyer is not a woman. Meyer is appropriating womanhood. The irony of Meyer's rant is quite spectacular.

Why do you think Riley Dennis and Danielle Muscato are ridiculous and Thyren Meyer isn't? What criteria are you using there?

Love the final line of the Danielle muscato video. "Suck my dick". Such a uniquely female line Grin

Some twat in the comments is trying to claim it's a perfectly valid thing for a transwoman to say and it's bigoted to disagree.

I appreciate this thread bringing my attention to Magdalen, but I'm not sure I understand the love for her. I think this might be because I've not been engaged in the recent debates around trans issues. I hesitated to post this yesterday, but I think it's important to take the risk and be educated by those more informed than I am!

I think that she's right to challenge any pressure on lesbian women to accept trans women as sexual partners.
However, she seems unnecessarily rude and dictatorial about others' self-identity. I don't understand why she gets to tell people what they should feel and believe about themselves.

What am I missing?

She hasnmt woke up one day and thought m: I'll have a pop at trans community. The recent transactivism has taken to wrestling in on female spaces, mantransplaining feminism to women and redefining what a woman is. Her vlogs are in response to those actions.

red I think Magdalena got banned from Edinburgh uni LGBT after Ada Wells, a MTF lesbian, called her transphobic. Ada calls people with vaginas "cuntscum". Ada also believes lesbians who won't sleep with transwomen are trans phobic. Magdalen is a lesbian.
I can well believe that being banned from a society you believe in because a section of society have unilaterally decided to redefine labels that are important to you (such as woman and lesbian) might make you less tolerant of trans "self-identity".

RedMapleLeaf have you watched the actual videos she is responding to? The one telling lesbians they are bigoted for not accepting transwomen as sexual partners?
Magdalen responds, she doesn't go after random people.

She's challenging the assertion 'transwomen ARE women'. If you believe this, it means people born men who are attracted to women, then identify as women, are now lesbians - and lesbians should have no trouble sleeping with them. Despite the male, fully functioning genitalia (female penises). They need to 'check their privilege' and examine their internal prejudice for saying they only like women (with vaginas).

The TAs (trans-activists) say the same of natal born women. They need to check their 'cis' privilege and to get over the fact that transwomen, because they ARE women, want access to female only spaces. Despite remaining attracted to those women and having male genitalia.

Magdalen Burns blows a hole through the trans ideology by pointing this out. I'm sure she, like most women, would have very little problem if it remained purely a feminine identity, rather than appropriating the identity of women and all that this entails.

Lesbians are increasingly more targeted by transwomen. Like heterosexual women, their lesbian only spaces are being taken over by transwomen with 'female penises' applying sexual pressure (see 'cotton ceiling').

Thank you all for responding, Datun's post especially was informative and enlightening for me. Yes, I did watch the videos she's responding to, the ones I could find, before posting above. I certainly don't agree with them either. I just don't agree with how she's making all of her arguments. Calling someone "him" when that person prefers to be called "her" is just rude and unkind. For me it detracts from her other, important, arguments.

kua · 23/12/2016 23:32

Well, I find that calling a male " her " Is rude and unkind to to me. Care to address that Red.?

Report
RedMapleLeaf · 24/12/2016 06:14

Yes, sure. I'm curious how you could find it rude or unkind. Do you mean that it hurts you in some way?

I think for me it's like when someone, a relative or colleague for example, insists on calling you by a name you have asked them not to use. It's just plain bad manners and unkind.
