Trans people to be JAILED in Alabama town if they go to "the wrong toilet"

Unbelievable. There has been a lot of hate recently in North Carolina with the bathroom bill. But this has got a lot worse. [ www.al.com/news/anniston-gadsden/index.ssf/2016/04/oxford_passes_law_aimed_at_tar.html]

So a transwoman will have to go the male bathroom. A transman in the female one. There's been cases of butch women being hassled already in female toilets.

Oh - and if you're in North Carolina and witness someone who you think is in the wrong bathroom, you can call the hotline.

Meanwhile, a convicted sex offender (who is also Ex Republican House Speaker) is allowed to go the male bathroom with boys.

The only good thing about this bill is that it's made people react to the discrimination and to show that many people think this is discrimination. Just like in the 60s. Apparently trans people are sexual deviants.

This is the real effect of hate.

Maryz, so its ok as long as its allowing men to protect and define what it means to be a man but obviously women can't do the same for their sex or we are bigots and TERFs

Can I just throw this into the mix... Miriam Ben-Shalom is my new hero!

She is rather fabulous.

And is indeed bang on about the need to get rid of the stereotypes of gender so we can just be.

Gender is fluid. Sex is not. Changing your sex is a difficult process and one that the body will fight against and it still doesn't give you the lived experience of your reassigned sex.

Changing your gender is easy and also meaningless.

Italiangreyhound · 03/05/2016 04:10

I'm just going to throw this one in there for anyone who wants to watch this..

www.channel4.com/programmes/my-transgender-summer-camp/on-demand/59905-001

Just watched the bit 22:50 minutes in where one dad says something like "I wouldn't wish that on anyone (gender diverse)" and the mum says I would wish on any parent the children we haves."

It's quite moving. I just throw this in here because I am reminded that even young children are affected by this issue.

And also this, because it is very interesting.....

I normally read and listen to newspapers, broadcasts and speaking from all points of view. I have decided to stop this now when it comes to trans activists as my own mental health is at risk from gaslighting.

CoteDAzur · 03/05/2016 06:34

Italian - That link! Shock Sad

"What we are cannot be conceived nor replicated in a man’s imagination, and it absolutely cannot be formed out of male tissue on an operating table."

shins · 03/05/2016 07:31

That link is heartbreaking. How can a 17 year old be allowed a double mastectomy? I have an old schoolfriend who struggled in her adolescence with her sexuality and female identity, gender roles and expectations. She too would say that for a while she just didn't want to be a girl. However, that was 25 years ago and she's now a happily married gay woman with a couple of kids, totally at ease with herself and absolutely female. She says it would have been terrible for her if that trans narrative had prevailed back then and if everyone around her was helping her to irreversibly mutilate herself; she probably would have gone for it and deeply regretted it. She also feels the homophobia underneath the transactivist agenda.

OddBoots · 03/05/2016 07:50

My teenage dd is gay and I have already had one well meaning friend ask if I am sure she isn't trans instead.

SuburbanRhonda · 03/05/2016 07:55

This article in last Saturday's Guardian about a mum whose young daughter thinks she's a boy, and the fear the mum feels that she will be pressured into becoming trans, is very sad.

treaclesoda · 03/05/2016 07:56

As a young teen going through puberty I was totally traumatised. I hated growing breasts in particular, because I developed early and had big boobs. I hated them to the point of self harming and I still hate them now in my 40s. But I'm a woman, and I accept that they're part and parcel of that.

I shudder to think what would happen to a teenager now with similar feelings...

PennyDreadfuI · 03/05/2016 08:46

Victoria Derbyshire is discussing TG children on her show later. She'll be talking to a seven year old transgirl. Apparently the number of under 10s seeking 'help' for transgenderism has rocketed in the past year - with some children being as young as three. Three.

OddBoots, exactly the same thing happened with my teenage DD. Very briefly, she got quite involved with the whole Tumblr thing and she questioned her gender. This was a few years ago - she's 18 now and says that that period in her life was confusing and frightening, and she felt forced by her peers etc to question her gender when really she was absolutely comfortable being female. She said that she was often made to feel as if she didn't fit in, and was bullied for being 'cis' - she was constantly asked her pronouns and got a frosty response when she answered with her/she. This worries me so much - at a time when teenagers are already trying to come to terms with who they are, their sexuality etc, this throws another shit-tonne of confusion into the mix. Add to that the teenage need to 'fit in' with their peers and that mix becomes more potent still.

SuburbanRhonda · 03/05/2016 08:52

This is about the Victoria Derbyshire programme. One of the children on the programme is 7, born a boy and now living as a girl. The parents have separated and the mother is now in a relationship with a woman and is undergoing the process of transition to a man herself.

So a child born a boy is now a girl and will have two dads when previously one of her dads was her mum.

I'm speechless.

Worcswoman · 03/05/2016 11:02

Thank God the cultural fashion when I was 7 years old was owning either an orange or a blue spacehopper.

BigChocFrenzy · 03/05/2016 12:34

Italiangreyhound iirc, you asked about this ?

Transmen, Transwomen, Rates of Crime, Suicide

I've only got the detailled scientific study I posted on our very 1st FWR trans thread, which was for all those who underwent sex assignment surgery in Sweden and were assigned a new legal sex over a 30-year period. So, NOT self-declaration.

http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.00168855_

  1. The rates of suicide remain the same after transition.
Slightly higher rates of heart disease and cancer though. So, all that surgery & hormone treatment for no medical benefit.

  2. Transwomen retain the same crime patterns as males, but transmen become more violent, which is worrying.

"... regarding any crime,
male-to-females had a significantly increased risk for crime compared to female controls (aHR 6.6; 95% CI 4.1–10.8) but not compared to males (aHR 0.8; 95% CI 0.5–1.2).
This indicates that they retained a male pattern regarding criminality.
The same was true regarding violent crime.

By contrast, female-to-males had higher crime rates than female controls (aHR 4.1; 95% CI 2.5–6.9) but did not differ from male controls.
This indicates a shift to a male pattern regarding criminality and that sex reassignment is coupled to increased crime rate in female-to-males.
The same was true regarding violent crime."

MorrisZapp · 03/05/2016 12:36

Brilliant link re Miriam Ben Shalom. Have shared to FB to deafening silence.

BigChocFrenzy · 03/05/2016 12:36

Remember: Men commit the VAST majority of serious crime:

  • 85% of all indictable crimes in England & Wales
  • 88% of crimes against the person
  • 98% of sexual offences Women only outdo them when it comes to TV licence offences. Refs Gov MOJ Stats Table Q4.2 , The Times

We shouldn't give up the protection of safe spaces just because they don't offer 100% protection against all kinds of violence.
I take precautions against various diseases, financial disasters etc which reduce, but don't eliminate, risk.

MissMargie · 03/05/2016 13:38

Interesting stats

The reason for high suicide rate is given as transphobic behavior by the rest of society but it must be hard (hard to imagine how hard) to tell your DCs that you, after being Dad for all their lives are now Mum2, or to tell your DW or DH or to tell anyone that you are changing sex. And their reaction might be good/bad/indifferent but if it affects their lives you could feel guilt for being the cause of that.
I accept they might be very happy that you are now a happy rather than sad individual. But on the whole it must take them a long time to adjust to the new you.
And perhaps it is that which adds to the risk of suicide rather than the whole of society's behavior.

Making changing sex more acceptable and getting everyone used to that idea is the way to go but browbeating people with this law which disaffects their lives seems not a good step.

SuburbanRhonda · 03/05/2016 14:17

It's not possible to change sex.

VestalVirgin · 03/05/2016 14:41

No, I looked it up on Wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transsexuality_in_Iran

So, males who want to be women are the driving force, apparently, but I do wonder ... many women probably use the fact that it is legal, now, to get more freedom.

Especially lesbians - butch lesbians transition by the dozens, from what I heard, in America, and since homosexuality is illegal in Iran ... well, you can easily imagine, right?

That's all so horrible.

Iran carries out most gender change surgeries (I refuse to call it sex reassignment, biological sex cannot be changed) in the world after Thailand ... which I also would not have guessed to be a remarkably progressive country.

SuburbanRhonda · 03/05/2016 16:52

Just watched the Victoria Derbyshire programme.

I could not believe that one of the children had a special assembly where the head teacher showed the children "a diagram of what it means it have a boy's body but have a girl's brain".

A head teacher! Shock

Worcswoman · 03/05/2016 17:05

Interesting stats from Bigchoc.

It seems to me that a bloke' s a bloke whatever he wears and regardless of how he mutilates himself. Women generally then seem to act more aggressively as part of trying to be a man.

Of course it's all delusional nonsense but hey, if it makes you happy!
