Trans people to be JAILED in Alabama town if they go to "the wrong toilet"

Unbelievable. There has been a lot of hate recently in North Carolina with the bathroom bill. But this has got a lot worse. [ www.al.com/news/anniston-gadsden/index.ssf/2016/04/oxford_passes_law_aimed_at_tar.html]

So a transwoman will have to go the male bathroom. A transman in the female one. There's been cases of butch women being hassled already in female toilets.

Oh - and if you're in North Carolina and witness someone who you think is in the wrong bathroom, you can call the hotline.

Meanwhile, a convicted sex offender (who is also Ex Republican House Speaker) is allowed to go the male bathroom with boys.

The only good thing about this bill is that it's made people react to the discrimination and to show that many people think this is discrimination. Just like in the 60s. Apparently trans people are sexual deviants.

This is the real effect of hate.

I wonder if those exemptions include the Bullington Club or White's?

nononononotme · 02/05/2016 18:28

That was going to be my next question Little....

nononononotme · 02/05/2016 18:29

And what about the military?

TheMaidWasInTheGarden · 02/05/2016 19:12

www.andersen.sdu.dk/vaerk/hersholt/TheEmperorsNewClothes_e.html

The Psychiatrist and psychologists team are the 'swindlers'. Trans people are the Emperior. Maria Miller is the Minister...

I and many others on this thread are the child.

VestalVirgin · 02/05/2016 19:17

So am I right in thinking that under a policy of "I am a woman/man if I say I am" I (woman) can declare myself a man and go to my local mosque and demand access to men only areas and if the mosque refuse they will be subject to criminal charges?

You may succeed with a mosque. In that many conservatives will totally support you and demand that the Muslims be punished. (Not in getting into men only areas, though.)

Try to get the Catholic Church to hire you as priest. THAT's where the trouble will start.

Worcswoman · 02/05/2016 19:20

Talkinginthedark I confess I started reading during an ad break whilst watching PS: I Love You. When Gerard Butler came on I lost the plot. That and comforting my DD sobbing next to me (best Kleenex movie ever)

Apols again and thanks for the info - I'll write Smile

HermioneWeasley · 02/05/2016 19:21

I am confident that religions Will continue to be exempt from the equality act

Worcswoman · 02/05/2016 19:23

The MaidWasInTheGarden - so true.

nononononotme · 02/05/2016 19:24

Good point about the Catholic Church although why any woman wants any part of something that so clearly despises them is beyond me. Another one...the Masons....

nononononotme · 02/05/2016 19:27

Hermione, how can they if we are meant to accept that these people actually are, really and truly, women/men? Either they are or they aren't surely?

RuthyToothy · 02/05/2016 19:30

Thanks for the Wibbly link, Agony.

This is a pertinent link from the same blog:

HermioneWeasley · 02/05/2016 19:32

Fuck knows nonono, but since religions are still free to discriminate against other protected characteristics I'm sure they'll be allowed to still keep women out, even if we "identify" as men.

OfCrayonBorn · 02/05/2016 19:32

That's another protected characteristic trans clashes with, although in many ways it is like a cult religion. I'd be very interested to see thetrans vs Muslims in the left-wing media. Who will they side with?

RuthyToothy · 02/05/2016 19:34

Either they are or they aren't surely?

Yes. Surely religions aren't exempt from adhering to the law? I mean, I can envisage that they will find a loophole, but I'm just dismayed by the inevitability of a law that compromises women's rights but is easily ignorable for the purposes of organised religion Sad

nononononotme · 02/05/2016 19:36

These religious types need to be able to ensure they are oppressing the right people...its their god given right don't you know?

HermioneWeasley · 02/05/2016 19:39

ruthy religions absolutely are exempt from the Equality Act - that's how they are allowed to keep discriminating against women and gays.

VestalVirgin · 02/05/2016 19:42

I'm not sure Muslims are against trans, even? Aren't there some very religious countries where transitioning is all okay? (Surgery, of course, required)

Hm. I suppose they are fine with it as long as it is just some women insisting that they are male, and those women have to have dangerous surgery ... they will be less okay with it once the no-surgery-required thing is enforced and if/when women decide to make use of it.

VestalVirgin · 02/05/2016 19:43

Forgot to add: I think to very misogynist cultures, it is better that some women "become men" than if those women recognize that all women deserve better and start a revolution.

nononononotme · 02/05/2016 19:43

Its a scary thought but could this go down so that all the special protection goes to people identifying as "woman" and not the other way round? So if you want to be treated as a man tough shit unless the proper men decide you pass?

nononononotme · 02/05/2016 19:47

Vestal that's what I mean. If you don't make any effort to look male, have obvious breasts and wear makeup, and demand to pray with the men? Aren't the Mormons funny about this stuff too? And they are big in America?

treaclesoda · 02/05/2016 19:47

Well, ironically, this is one women's issue where you can be sure that Christianity will be on women's side, and I can't think of any social change before, off the top of my head, where that is the case. I'm in N Ireland and I can be certain that the church will strongly oppose anything that declares men to be women or vice versa.

nononononotme · 02/05/2016 19:55

And in those very religious countries how many woman become transmen vs men becoming transwomen? And why might there be a very big difference in numbers I wonder?

RuthyToothy · 02/05/2016 19:56

religions absolutely are exempt from the Equality Act - that's how they are allowed to keep discriminating against women and gays.

I didn't know that. Thank you Sad
