These women have no idea what feminism is really about, do they?

I'm not sure why the Indy felt the need to go down this route for IWD. Some of these women sound like MRAs Angry

Am I not allowed to say that I think someone is thick?

Jeez.

itllallbefine · 09/03/2016 15:02

Of course you can say that an individual is thick, it was the sarcastic remark about correlation of thickness and failure to identify as a feminist that I'm getting at.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 09/03/2016 15:32

I made the comment about the 14 year old. My own 14 year old daughter. Who is currently reading her first book on feminism and has a better grasp of it than the women in that article.

So I stand by my comment as MY 14 year old has more self-awareness and understanding of the need for feminism than those women.

Had I said they had less self-awareness than 14 year olds in general, then you'd have a point Lass but I didn't and you were trying to twist my words.

BertrandRussell · 09/03/2016 15:32

3 women who a) do not understand feminism b) are opposed to feminism and c) appear from their own writings to be not particularly clever are chosen by a national newspaper to contribute their views on IWD. If i was a non feminist I would not want to be represented by women like these. Nobody is saying that being non feminist makes you thick- just that these 3 women appear thick. Why diidn't they choose someone clever?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 09/03/2016 15:55

Well thanks for putting your own spin on that.

I had rather assumed it would be obvious it was referring back to the 14 year old previously referred to on the thread. "A 14 year old" not as you yourself say "14 year olds"

And you say I'm trying to twist words.

MephistophelesApprentice · 09/03/2016 15:55

What do you think about the woman who said she was once feminist (implying by your own logic that she must have been smart enough to understand it) and yet now chooses not do so?

PosieReturningParker · 09/03/2016 15:58

Those particular women sounded very stupid in that article. I scanned through with my eyes rolling.

Aren't most female academics feminist and atheist.... double whammy of intellectual markers.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 09/03/2016 15:58

My dd is 14 and has more self-awareness than all those women put together.

There's my original post, where I refer to my dd. My post is still there for all to see.

But don't let me stand in the way of your tedious, ongoing, anti-feminist crusade.

PosieReturningParker · 09/03/2016 16:00

I would ignore Lass. Lilac

itllallbefine · 09/03/2016 16:16

I'm yet to see any feminists on here (or elsewhere) ever admit that a non feminist has ever made anything other than a naive and misinformed argument. I highly doubt that any one of you would have described any argument from someone saying they weren't a feminist as "intelligent" so it's news to me that you don't think all non feminists are thick, and I'm sure many people reading this.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/03/2016 16:40

What the fuck are you on about?

You're really excited that some people think some other people are thick? Really? You've never heard this before?

LilacSpunkMonkey · 09/03/2016 16:41

Over generalising a wee bit there, aren't we?

Hmm
LilacSpunkMonkey · 09/03/2016 16:43

Some more people who are really thick.

Anyone who agrees with anything Katie Hopkins says.
Jim Davidson fans.
Donald Trump.

It is perfectly feasible that there are people in the world who are thick.

BertrandRussell · 09/03/2016 16:53

I don't think Lass is thick at all. For example.

itllallbefine · 09/03/2016 16:55

Can i ask you for an argument you've seen made against feminism by, that you respect or that you thought was well made ? Or perhaps, as a lower bar, an example from here where someone has given a non feminist opinion that has not met with incredulity ?

BertrandRussell · 09/03/2016 16:56

Margaret Thatcher wasn't thick.

Katie Hopkins isn't thick although most of the people who agree with her are.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 09/03/2016 17:00

Go and do your own research.

I'm not your data monkey.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 09/03/2016 17:01

Do you know Bert, I was going to put KH on my list but then I thought 'actually, she's very canny, writing what she does'. She knows exactly what she's doing. How people can't see it and believe her nonsense I don't know.

BertrandRussell · 09/03/2016 17:14

There are a lot of women who, for religious reasons, do not believe in the equality of women. I disagree with them fundamentally(no pun intended!) but I understand why they say what they do.

PalmerViolet · 09/03/2016 18:09

You don't have to be thick to make stupid and pointless arguments as we have daily reminders on this part of the forum.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 09/03/2016 18:14

My dd is 14 and has more self-awareness than all those women put together.

There's my original post, where I refer to my dd. My post is still there for all to see

And your point is? My post was clearly referring back to the one, single, solitary, unique14 year old previously referred to.

It's you who chose to misinterpret my comment to refer to "14 year olds".

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 09/03/2016 19:31

But don't let me stand in the way of your tedious, ongoing, anti-feminist crusade

Actually my posts were solely concerned with the fact Berntrand had suggested itllallbefine was making things up, which itllall wasn't. They had nothing whatsoever to do with being pro or anti-feminist.

PosieReturningParker · 09/03/2016 19:44

Wouldn't it be nice if feminist chat wasn't concerned with defending feminism?

I'm off to tell the Muslim Mumsnetters that there isn't a god... Within their section.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/03/2016 19:50

It is a most mysterious thing.

I'm off to 'the litter tray' to tell them that all small animals have gone too far.
(I might actually do this Wink)

PosieReturningParker · 09/03/2016 19:54

Them those horsey ladies are going to be told horse riding is cruel.
