Following on from this one General Trans thread
Because I'm not Elsa and can't let it go Wink

Even a quick read of this thread suggest there is a lot of anger. ..
Some examples...

You don't need examples. I told you that we are angry

This "debate" between radical feminism and the trans community is being seen by mainstream as a particularly nasty fight with some issues, risks and fears (on both sides) being deliberately exaggerated.

And who do you think started the fight? I think you'll find some rad fem fears stem from being threatened with death and rape when they bring up objections to some of these 'issues' you glibly dismiss. Do you not think that's an understandable reaction? By the way, have you popped over to Twitter or Tumblr yet to plead with 'TERF' killers to be less aggressive?

As mentioned earlier, I may be completely wrong. Perhaps the best solution is to get even angrier, even more offensive and aggressive...

You know what, as I said we are angry and we are 'aggressive', if you term defending women's rights vocally and loudly and consistently aggressive Hmm

And yes you can wear what you like to signal your gender to people around you. Conform to every stereotype and wear pink bows and a flowery dress and heels. You can choose your gender. Feel free. But you can't change your sex. Is that the point?

HamaTime · 07/01/2016 18:11

Kellie Maloney was on the radio today saying "gender is in your head, not between your legs", which doesn't go very far to explaining why there needs to be any meddling with what is between your legs or why the people with different things between their legs need to pretend that what you have between your legs is a massive irrelevance and budge up to accommodate you.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 07/01/2016 18:40

Yes, I have read that sex is a social construct too.
I have read the statement that gender is the same as sex. So whatever gender you believe you are becomes your sex. So a person with a penis who believes they are a woman has female biology. Two trans men with vaginas are not having lesbian sex, they are having gay (male) sex. And the kicker - agender people's genitals have no sex. Even if they have a penis or a vagina.

HumphreyCobblers · 07/01/2016 18:48

Did anyone read Janice Turner in the Times today? She is criticising Maria Miller's stance on transgender issues by pointing out that "There are serious safety considerations if trans females with stronger male bodies and usually with intact male genitals are to enter previously women-only spaces"

I am pleased to see it finally being mentioned in the mainstream media.

FloraFox · 07/01/2016 19:03

This does need more mainstream press, especially around that facts that 80%+ of MTTs have not had genital surgery and many of them are sexually attracted to women. The notion of MTTs as post-op and attracted to men is, I think, why many people think this isn't an issue women should worry about, including many women.

noeffingidea · 07/01/2016 19:17

I thought that, FloraFox. I wasn't aware of any of this until the Tara Hudson incident. Then l found out the public were being deliberately misled, if not actively lied to.
I don't know what it is with the media now. I've noticed it with the Cologne incident. They are not presenting the news anymore as in facts, but their own agenda.
Has it always been this way, and I have just woke up? I know that certain newspapers have always had their own bias but it seems to go much deeper than that.
I'll probably end up posting on the David Icke forum at this rate.

EmpressOfTheVulvaCupcakes · 07/01/2016 19:22

I need to interrupt the thread, briefly, sorry, because I'm bursting with pride in my 21-year-old cousin L.

I put a very controversial post on FB about men having penises, women having vulvas and gender identities / roles being misogynistic nonsense. And she liked it.

I knew she was a feminist but now I also know that she sees through the crap. Maybe the younger generation aren't totally fooled GrinGrinGrin

Sorry, efffing! I missed that.

venusinscorpio · 07/01/2016 20:52

That's brilliant Empress. And quite daring of her, given the nature of FB.

noeffingidea · 07/01/2016 21:10

I think the tide is starting to turn a little, as far as public opinion goes.
It's not just transgenderism, it's other issues as well. I think people are starting to get a bit sick of being told what to think.

Imustgodowntotheseaagain · 07/01/2016 21:34

'Dame Edna' has criticised Caitlin Jenner, which is interesting. And brave...

Imustgodowntotheseaagain · 07/01/2016 21:35

Sorry, it would be Barry Humphries, wouldn't it. In a real-life interview.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/01/2016 22:00

Dame Edna has dissociated herself from Barry, apparently

noeffingidea · 07/01/2016 22:54

Barry Humphries is not a fan of gender reassignment surgery. He described it as self mutilation.
Poor old Caitlyn. It seems no one really likes her.

kua · 07/01/2016 23:06

Well said Barry Humphries, I hope that those that know him from his Edna years will see this and think, what the fuck does transgender actualy mean?

Imustgodowntotheseaagain · 08/01/2016 06:45

Any sympathy I had for Caitlin Jenner was lost when they applied for their new golf club membership as Bruce.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 08/01/2016 10:21

Indeed Imust

CoteDAzur · 08/01/2016 10:22

"Any sympathy I had for Caitlin Jenner was lost when they applied for their new golf club membership as Bruce."

Really? I lost sympathy when I saw the Vanity Fair cover where CJ is squeezed in a corset with hands seemingly bound behind the back. Because that is clearly what you do when you are a woman Hmm

Didactylos · 08/01/2016 11:03

uMMM, from that article in the independant

'Deep down your real job is to reproduce, and showing other humans your gender is the first step on that path'
Surely the writer of this article hasn't thought this through at all
the whole thing sums up the problem with conflating sex and gender

to reproduce we have to get into the specifics of bodies and genetics and genitalia, eg biology and sex, the mechanics of reproduction, all the stuff that apparently doesn't define a man or woman these days

Gender (identity, stereotype, socially approved/conditioned behaviour) could I guess be used to signal availability for reproduction but are pretty pointless apropos of reproduction if the biology doesn't measure up to the signals

so why is signalling gender rather than sex important at all
I am lost

ShortcutButton · 08/01/2016 11:47

I still think that author was being satirical

Didactylos · 08/01/2016 13:26

I was hoping so too....

EmpressOfTheVulvaCupcakes · 08/01/2016 13:53

There was a [[http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/jaden-smith-isnt-threatening-transgender-territory-hes-a-non-binary-icon-a6799411.html
response article]] in yesterday's Independent though, and that writer obviously thinks Katie Glover is being serious. Plus KG edits a trans mag called Frock and wrote a book on "how to be a girl".

I think they might actually be serious. Albeit a serious deluded twit.

EmpressOfTheVulvaCupcakes · 08/01/2016 13:54

Oops sorry. Should have been a response article.
