I came across this on change.
Contentious issue.
My thoughts are that there needs to be a safe space for women...does that necessarily include who identifies as women?

I know there are some learned types on here, I would be very interested to hear your views.

Well exactly. The information I posted earlier was from a newspaper article about this (it's deemed a public interest case around here so it's been covered a lot).

I have replied to clarify which part has upset them, although I am guessing it was that they decided the risk to her in a male prison was less than the risk to others in a female prison.

Horrid message though. Rather concerning.

(NB: Although entirely without a legal basis, it was just horrid to read).

she does have a penis it is fully functioning

she comes across as a ladyboy not trans there is a difference

this is not her first offence not even her first violent offence

cadnowyllt · 31/10/2015 11:46

Gruntled One I don't think you are required to divorce/terminate your marriage/civil partnership if you obtained a GA certificate.

The other spouse/partner could apply for a divorce based on unreasonable behaviour (I'd have thought) - but they need not wait then for a GA certificate.

GruntledOne · 31/10/2015 12:55

I don't think we know that her penis is fully functioning. The most up to date information publicly available is that it is vestigial. The fact that her doctor certified her as female and the judge and prison authorities, who will have seen all the reports, thought a female prison the most suitable, suggests that that is correct.

GruntledOne · 31/10/2015 12:56

cadnowyllt, there was an interview with someone who worked in that field on Radio 4 last night, and she said that is a common requirement.

2rebecca · 31/10/2015 13:07

I saw that her mother said it was a vestigial penis but her mother also said Tara was sweet and gentle. Maybe her mother has a different definition of vestigial or hasn't seen it recently (which wouldn't be surprising given Tara's age).
If Tara's penis is small and nonfunctioning then the website claims are untrue as are the claims in the Holly article, although I'm still not sure if Tara and Holly are the same ladyboy or just look similar with similar tattoos and of similar age and living in a similar location. Holly's original name was Kasper where as Tara's was Aaron so perhaps there is confusion between the two.

RickRoll · 31/10/2015 13:14

Tara and Holly are the same.

"She has since appeared on the likes of Red Light TV and Playboy under a number of names – most recently "Tia Star"."

The tattoos are not similar, they are identical

Note that MANY of the instragram photos have appeared in the papers as 'Tara Hudson'

in particular this one: instagram.com/p/yPqWMgybd0/?taken-by=tiastaruk

" The fact that her doctor certified her as female and the judge and prison authorities, who will have seen all the reports, thought a female prison the most suitable, suggests that that is correct."

There is NO requirement to have your penis removed to become a certified female.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 31/10/2015 13:25

Do doctors really certify people as female? Is there a standard they have to meet? Who sets it? Is it the same in all countries? Or could this really just be a doctor patting himself on the back about the success of his breast implants - 'There you go, you're a woman now!'

PlaysWellWithOthers · 31/10/2015 13:26

If Tara and Holly are not the same person, then Holly needs to have a word with the papers, because they're using images of her taken from this Twitter account. The difference in names is pretty easy to understand, if you give even a second's thought to it.

It's not a vestigial penis at all. And they state that they are bisexual...

PlaysWellWithOthers · 31/10/2015 13:32

countess this is the guidance from the Government about GRC here

Interestingly, it says that Radio 4 was wrong, and that you don't need to divorce to get a GRC, but both parties have to make a statutory declaration confirming the wish to remain married. Silly old Radio 4, eh?

HelenaDove · 31/10/2015 15:10

I couldnt help wondering about something.

I know its not the same thing but the media had no trouble referring to the women killed by Jack the Ripper....the Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe and more recently the women killed by Steve Wright in Ipswich back in 2006, as prostitutes first and women second. So surely if the media themselves truly see her as a woman they would be treating her in exactly the same way as they do other women in this job no? But they dont because THEY dont see her as a woman. Because if they did they would treat her in the same misogynistic way as they do with non trans women who are prostitutes.

ChunkyPickle · 31/10/2015 19:52

The woman on radio 4 wasn't an expert in this, but some other aspect of the situation that I missed - she said something along the lines of 'I looked into it before I came on this evening' and then went on to speak about the various possible requirements for a GRC, and the issues for the prison service

She came across as a very competent individual, so I can see why people would think she was an expert, but she wasn't - she was Chief Exec of the Prison Reform Trust

I suspect that, had the truth been told by more than a few, then Tara would still be in men's prison.

Maybe, this might be the opportunity to start some proper prison reform? However, I feel that we're not going to get rid of male violence within prisons, until we get rid of it without.
