I came across this on change.
Contentious issue.
My thoughts are that there needs to be a safe space for women...does that necessarily include who identifies as women?

I know there are some learned types on here, I would be very interested to hear your views.

A person with a 7 inch cock who has a history of violence gets send to a prison full of women, many of them vulnerable, who have no way of avoiding her?

Could an equally violent adult prisoner identify as a child and be send to a juvenile facility?

BelaLug0si · 29/10/2015 18:28

The Guardian's reporting here doesn't make it clear but infers Tara has completed the surgery.
The current situation is not good for Tara or potentially for women in the prison she will be transferred to. As other PP have said, why aren't the women being considered in this as well?

RickRoll · 29/10/2015 18:47

completed what surgery? There are men on the forum reporting having had sex with him on the night before he was sent to prison. I would imagine they would comment if the advertised seven-inch penis was missing!

PlaysWellWithOthers · 29/10/2015 19:28

Tara still has their fully functioning dick. And their violence. And their male musculature. In a female prison, with women who almost certainly are way more vulnerable than Tara is.

BelaLug0si · 29/10/2015 19:59

Yes RR and PWWO that was my point - the reporting in the Guardian was vague and many readers will draw the incorrect conclusion about what surgery/state of transition. The other reports give a different picture.
I was agreeing that it does not seem a good idea to be moved to a women's prison, yet they are at risk in a men's prison as well.

HermioneWeasley · 29/10/2015 20:01

God, how pathetic - I bet anything that a petition about a female prisoner wouldn't have got the coverage or resulted in a complete change of outcome within 24hours.

I really hope that Tara doesn't hurt any of the women she comes into contact with and inmates are able to refuse sharing space with someone who is essentially male.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 29/10/2015 20:05

Sorry Bela Blush

INickedAName · 30/10/2015 01:04

proper link this time

FreshwaterSelkie · 30/10/2015 06:00

Thanks for that link, Inicked, I have signed it now. I really hope that Tara will also be segregated in the women's prison.

Can't believe how short-sighted people are - "Oh, poor Tara, at risk in a men's prison, the poor love, let's get her moved". "Er, OK, but what about all the female prisoners who now have to share a shower, or maybe get locked in cell overnight with a violent offender with a penis and who don't get any choice in that?"

"Oh. They'll be fine. Tara's a woman too".

Right.

howtorebuild · 30/10/2015 10:09

I would sign it if it was worded differently, with more compassion towards Tara. I think it's a mistake to go hard line against transwomen. I very much like the overstating this is an equity issue, you can't put a woman's safety second to a transWoma's safety, what happened to equality?

TPel · 30/10/2015 10:32

I find this an extremely complex question. I also flipped the situation and wondered how I would feel if it was a male prisoner who had gender reassignment. Should he got to a men's prison ?

I came to the conclusion, along with a number of other posters, that separate wings for trains gender inmates is the only way to manage this situation. I can't see it happening though. Too many ££'s.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 30/10/2015 13:46

As the numbers of males claiming to be trans rises, I have no doubt that a trans only wing will be set up somewhere. Given that TG and TW commit crimes at about the same rate as males.

grimbletart · 30/10/2015 14:28

Latest on her losing her appeal against her sentence.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-34675778

With eight previous convictions, including battery (as well as her conviction for head butting a barman) I reckon little miss Tara can look after herself pretty well.

Here's a thought. How about not going round assaulting people - then you wouldn't have to go to prison in the first place?

Without her certificate I wonder whether the crime stats will have her offences as being committed by a man or a woman…..Hmm

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 30/10/2015 15:06

Without her certificate I wonder whether the crime stats will have her offences as being committed by a man or a woman

Is there a way we can protest against the mis-recording of stats re: transgender people? I have a feeling this is going to become a bigger issue and that crimes committed by transwomen will start to have serious impact and implications on figures for crimes committed by women.

howtorebuild · 30/10/2015 15:53

There is another thread discussing this and some interesting notes on gender in the equality act of 2010.

INickedAName · 30/10/2015 17:20

Just read Tara has been moved to female prison.

FriendofBill · 30/10/2015 17:32

Oh dear.
I think that is a huge mistake.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 30/10/2015 18:41

Did anybody get "warned" for revealing sensitive information after posting in this thread?

SettlinginNicely · 30/10/2015 19:13

No, by whom? Why would they be? Everything discussed is in the public domain.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 30/10/2015 19:35

Warned by whom?

howtorebuild · 30/10/2015 21:41

Mnhq or a poster?

INickedAName · 30/10/2015 23:21

Do you mean Tara's sensitive info or warned about posting our own? I know there's a lot of anger about the links in this thread, but MNHQ would remove them if the breached anything wouldn't they? A link to this thread was on Twitter, ( it's been deleted now I think, but was there yesterday) the links with the adult work ad and newspaper article where Tara refers to themselves as a bloke has been tweeted and retweeted etc and it's pissed a lot if people off, saying it's doxxing Tara.

I've read some activists saying how would the person who posted and shared the links like being doxxed, have their real names, address and personal shared with everyone online.

I very rarely post anything on Twitter but follow loads of feminists and retweet a lot, I RT ed a couple petition links last night etc and this morning I had new followers feeds that do not look very woman friendly. There's no way they are following me because they like what I'm RTing, they haven't threatened me or anything and I've blocked but it feels a bit intimidating.

A few women are saying they have been warned and threatened and have come off twitter for a while because they don't feel safe, I dunno if they are MNers though and I've not spoke about me being here.

INickedAName · 30/10/2015 23:26

I hope nobody here has had warnings/threats because of taking part in this thread. Anyone could find the info in it. It's public stuff.

GruntledOne · 31/10/2015 10:08

it seemed to me that this case was pretty cut and dried with the lack of a GRC.

Plenty of trans people don't get GRCs, most commonly because they don't know about them, or because they entail requirements that are not acceptable to them, e.g. divorcing their partners or revoking civil partnerships. It's not conclusive.
