A feminist view on the hack

I was just reading the fb comments (yes I know, someday I'll learn) below the ITV News article about the hack and the swatting shite, which was fronted by a photo of MNJustine.

There was precisely one sympathetic remark - from a woman. Otherwise, men are suggesting that getting hacked is our own fault for being a website that is all about slagging off men; women say we're all boring and up ourselves anyway ("airy fairy women with personality disorders"); and most-liked of all is a man's comment saying "Christ, [Justine] looks just like how I'd imagine the typical wet blanket mumsnet user to look".

People really do hate women for having the nerve to get together and have opinions about things, don't they?

Someone thought mumsnet was a site full of misandrist feminists who spend their time bashing men and "roffling into their keyboards" at male victims of domestic violence? Well fancy that.

Some of the vitriolic language I've seen this morning from people commenting on the hack elsewhere reminds me how much some men hate women having a space and a voice.

I can't see it on the feminist board? Do you mean the general boards? Because there's lots of people there, plenty aren't feminists (cos, you know, women are people with lots of different opinions - whodathunk it)

tiyife that was two or three posters on a thread in 2007 (and by the look of it they got quite a lot of criticism from other members back then). Not really representative of the over a million members in 2015.

tiyife Huh? I'm not using anything for misandry! I was just commenting that I'd seen a lot of very unpleasant comments from men about the hack and that it seemed more related to the fact MN is predominantly female. :confused:

Thanks for the link, Abbie. I completely agree. Apart from the Great Misandry Outbreak of 2007 (a single thread that was deleted by MNHQ btw) that gets trotted out here every so often by some angry little man with an exceedingly blunt axe to grind, most of the stuff I read on MN is just people talking about their lives, ideas, media, politics, just like in rl. It's no threat at all to men.

Except the Relationships board.

The Relationships board is full of people who've come out of abusive relationships and dedicate a lot of their time and energy to helping other posters survive and escape from abusive relationships. It's an incredibly valuable resource for women and their children who are affected by male violence. That's the threat. Of course, it isn't a threat to all men, because not all men are abusive (there, I said it). But it's a real threat to abusers and the abusers' lobby, all the MRA and affiliated groups out there. And that's a good thing, isn't it?
