A feminist view on the hack

I was just reading the fb comments (yes I know, someday I'll learn) below the ITV News article about the hack and the swatting shite, which was fronted by a photo of MNJustine.

There was precisely one sympathetic remark - from a woman. Otherwise, men are suggesting that getting hacked is our own fault for being a website that is all about slagging off men; women say we're all boring and up ourselves anyway ("airy fairy women with personality disorders"); and most-liked of all is a man's comment saying "Christ, [Justine] looks just like how I'd imagine the typical wet blanket mumsnet user to look".

People really do hate women for having the nerve to get together and have opinions about things, don't they?

Quite, lumpy!

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 21/08/2015 09:39

Read this article this morning which I found quite interesting
Meeting an MRA. I'm worried they are giving atheists a bad name Wink.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 21/08/2015 13:36

Interesting article Jeffrey, and depressing.

INickedAName · 21/08/2015 14:53

Interesting article Jeffery thanks for sharing.

scallopsrgreat · 21/08/2015 16:40

Well said Lumpy.

Women having to accommodate men all the time. Now there's a thing...

PlaysWellWithOthers · 21/08/2015 19:08

This take on the hack is really really good.

Julie Bindel might not think so. Grin

LightningOnlyStrikesOnce · 21/08/2015 19:19

Lumpy's nailed the reason why we have any 'women only' groups or shows or internet sites or anything. The entire world is set up for men.

SolidGoldBrass · 24/08/2015 14:36

Very interesting article.
Something else has occured to me about Jeffrey - there's been, as far as I can tell, none of the sort of Twitter behaviour you'd expect from woman-hating losers. I would have thought he and his loser pals would have found time to post some targeted misogynistic abuse and threats of the sort sent to Anita Sarkeesian and Caroline Criado-Perez. Or is it because the online gobshites content themselves with horrible tweets whereas Jeffrey proceeds straight to outright criminal activity?

PlaysWellWithOthers · 25/08/2015 12:10

There's been a lot of traffic on 8/4chan.

Not sure what to think of the slightly toddler behaviour of the hacker...

ChristineDePisan · 25/08/2015 16:10

Interesting timing of this F4J piece in the Telegraph. Note the casual reference to MN

LumpySpacedPrincess · 25/08/2015 16:13

Don't read the comments at the bottom of that article. That article is so flawed where do you even start?

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 16:14

SGB - interestingly he did a bit of exactly that last night on Twitter. Then promptly got shut down.

It may be he hasn't until now to try and keep the account up.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 25/08/2015 16:18

The poster is a good thing because it shows what the problem is, violent men, not all men but violent ones. The poster names the problem but we aren't allowed to do that or, guess what, men get angry. Sad

LumpySpacedPrincess · 25/08/2015 16:20

I saw he tweeted a picture of a Mumsnet user calling her a fat cow, was it taken down?

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 16:22

His whole account was

Rampant hate speech. Guess I've been in the wrong threads and missed it.

abbieanders · 25/08/2015 17:19

No examples supplied, always the sign of a robust argument.

ChristineDePisan · 25/08/2015 17:39

Eh, EBearHug? Was that aimed at me?

EBearhug · 25/08/2015 17:41

No, Christine, the newspaper article.
I knew what I meant. You just have to read my mind. Smile

LumpySpacedPrincess · 25/08/2015 17:53

Exactly, no facts at all, just their opinions and outrage that someone, at bloody last, is naming the problem.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 25/08/2015 18:23

Yes Lumpy.... but don't you get it, he thinks women and men are so stupid none of them will understand that it's only aimed at violent men.... and from the comments, it looks like a fair few of those people actually are that stupid.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 25/08/2015 18:34

There is a survey on the article which shows that 92 % agree with him.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 25/08/2015 18:38

Sad, innit?

LumpySpacedPrincess · 25/08/2015 19:52

It's dangerous. People actually believe this to be true so yet again the real problem, violent men, is not addressed. Angry

PlaysWellWithOthers · 25/08/2015 20:53

Patriarchy needs to be smashed. And soon.
