We're running at about six weeks per pub at the moment! So if you want chat with a feminist flavour, or with fellow feminists, or just want to admire our patriarchy blaster cannon and goat - welcome!

So this is pretty awesome. A woman is playing "men's" cricket and kicking ass!

Annoyingly Interestingly the BBC Sport are running the same story, but under the subheading "Women's Cricket" instead of just "Cricket".

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/05/2015 14:02

That's pretty good going. :)

I have been writing bollocks the whole day. It's pretty exhausting.

DepthFirstSearch · 11/05/2015 14:21

I'm still job hunting. Turns out I decided to go back to work just as all the financial institutions froze their headcount Sad

YonicScrewdriver · 11/05/2015 14:43

That's pants depth.

OP posts:
DepthFirstSearch · 11/05/2015 15:06

It is; I had so many leads, most of them with a strong probability of promotion, and then poof! it's all gone and I'm sitting here scratching my head and wondering what to do next (go contracting).

kickassangel · 11/05/2015 15:41

Thinking about the cricket - I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be a mixed sport, so hopefully more teams will open up to letting in women.

TheLily1957 · 11/05/2015 16:47

Laura and Black me too, we can only hope.
Depth I wish you good luck with your job hunt. I'm joining you as of the end if June. As a woman not too far off retirement age though I know its not going to be a walk in the park... I haven't been interviewed for 15 years Hmm

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 11/05/2015 19:11

Urgh, need a large one for me today Wine

Had my second gatekeeper psych referral. And even worse, she had to see me alone (i dont do on my own). But good news - she agrees that i show traits and is happy to do an asd assessment on me asap. Theres a waiting list, but im one step nearer to a diagnosis! :)

TheLily1957 · 11/05/2015 20:30

*Beyond. Im glad u have good news. Have a largeWine on me and i will join you.Even though its a school night!

alexpolistigers · 11/05/2015 20:42

Depth I sympathise. I am effectively unemployed atm. No work, no contracts to take on. I am superb at what I do, but abilities don't seem to count for much. Hate the sodding recession Sad

kickassangel · 12/05/2015 20:47

I have to admit, that I intend to hang on to my job for dear life. There's no worries (that I know of) that I may not have a job in the future, but every time I hear of the sheer drudge that job hunting involves, I resolve to stay where I am for as long as possible. Obviously, it's up to every family to decide how best to deal with childcare/work/staying home conundrum, but I think the whole issue of getting back into the work place after taking time out (or moving because of a spouse's job) gets underplayed sometimes. It's frightening how much people are expected to stay in employment without a break, when really there are many reasons why someone could want time out, without it meaning that they will somehow be a lesser employee when they return to work.

The insistence on having continuous work history means that it really pushes couples into keeping one person in ft employment, and the other into pt/SAH status, so that at least one of them still keeps their work running.

YonicScrewdriver · 12/05/2015 21:16

Is anyone watching the Women Spit shorts series? The Take Up Space one reminded me of some FWR threads!

Just jumping in here to report that the second and final round of online voting ended in the US on the question of which woman to put on the $20 bill. This subject came up in an earlier thread on FWR. The four finalists from the first round were Wilma Mankiller, Eleanor Roosevelt, Harriet Tubman, and Rosa Parks. The winner is Tubman, and Roosevelt was a close second.

Next step is to forward the results to the Secretary of the Treasury and hope that the administration acts on it.

ISaySteadyOn · 13/05/2015 10:41

That's great, Seneca. fingers crossed!

I had my first 'blue is a boy colour' from DD1 yesterday. I was a little proud of myself for deft use of the Frozen obsession. I asked DD what colour Elsa wears (she was wearing her Elsa dress) and the dawning realisation on her face was wonderful. She decided that blue and colours in general are for everybody.

HapShawl · 13/05/2015 10:51

depth, how frustrating! was it you who was also thinking about projects you had going on outside work and whether you might take that further (though with considerable drop in salary and seniority)? did anything come of those explorations?

HapShawl · 13/05/2015 10:56

yonic i will have to look at those, thank you

that's good news seneca. i remember when that was brought up before i realised i had heard of the women suggested as replacements but not of andrew jackson currently on the $20 bill! which shows my rather shameful knowledge of the american war of independence

drspouse · 13/05/2015 10:58

Well done ISay. My DS is 3 and I had my first "men do that" comment too recently. We were driving past a big work site and he said "look, diggers, lots of diggers. Little boys not play on diggers. Only mens drive diggers".

And ladies, I say. Ladies can drive diggers.

"No, only mens".

No, really, grown up ladies can drive diggers. Not little boys or little girls.

"OK, ladies can drive diggers" (possibly in a "all right Mummy just shut up" way).

Other than that he is really pretty relaxed about boys and girls, I'm not completely sure he understands that there is any difference though we have talked (because he noticed) about the fact that DD does not have one piece of apparatus.

drspouse · 13/05/2015 10:59

(I've just remembered that at least one of his construction/digger books has at least one lady driving a digger... must have a look)

StormyBrid · 13/05/2015 11:27

DD only turned two a couple of months ago, but is talking pretty well. Her pronouns are utterly random so far as I can see. So last night we had a conversation about how he is for boys and she is for girls, and boys have tails like Daddy. Unsurprisingly, she is still referring to both female cats as he.

drspouse · 13/05/2015 12:33

Oh yes, DS said "I check his bottom" when I asked DD if she was, by some remote chance, doing a poo in her nappy at the breakfast table. I don't bother correcting him (or any other speech errors), it doesn't make any difference (sorry!)

Children seem to know that they are male or female and what males and females "generally" do before they realise that they and others will stay male or female forever:

Sorry to post a petition but this is pretty dear to FWR hearts, I think...

Charlton Athletic are reportedly considering signing Ilombe Mboyo who took part in the brutal gang rape of a 14 year old girl. The FA have still not laid down guidelines to prevent this happening.

Please consider signing this new petition to make both Charlton and the FA realise that strict rules are urgently needed.

Signed. How revolting (the club, not the petition!)

TheLily1957 · 13/05/2015 18:22

Signed. It doesn't get any better does it....

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 13/05/2015 18:41

I can't figure out how to sign it on my phoneConfused - I'll boot up my laptop and sign once the DC are in bed.
