We're running at about six weeks per pub at the moment! So if you want chat with a feminist flavour, or with fellow feminists, or just want to admire our patriarchy blaster cannon and goat - welcome!

I can't sign as it says "victory". Does that mean he won't be getting signed?

YonicScrewdriver · 13/05/2015 18:48

BBC reporting signing isn't happening. Yay!

Sorry to post a petition but

Instead of apologising for posting a nonsense petition, you could have done some due diligence first.

At the time you posted, the top google result for Ilombe Mboyo was Charltons denial from an hour before -

"He is absolutely not on our radar. He is not a player we are interested in signing," said a Charlton spokesman.

Pretty clear. This was never a story. Most likely just his agent kite-flying.

YonicScrewdriver · 13/05/2015 19:56

Thanks for googling, Peckham, and sorry that you had to waste a minute or two doing so.

The petition was started by the woman who did a lot around the Ched Evans case, who I consider to be a good source, and the wider request of the petition for the FA to have guidelines about signings of sex offenders is a valid one.

If this particular case was an agent flying a kite rather than a serious proposal, hopefully it's helped show further that many people find it unacceptable.

It actually only took about 5 seconds.

I was immediately suspicious because Charlton is run by Katrien Meire. If you've heard her on the radio you'll know she's very smart, very tough, and very commercially aware.

I am very confident that there's no way she would allow an issue like this to get anywhere near her club.

As an aside, if you want an insight into the shit that a female chief executive of an English football club has to deal with, here's some links.

katrien meire ive had frightening abuse from charlton fans but i love leading role

Livid fan confronts Charlton CEO Katrien Meire on a train

The good news is that she has now been entirely vindicated in her decisions, and the 'fans' have now STFU.

change.org is just becoming garbage.

YonicScrewdriver · 13/05/2015 20:35

Thanks for the additional info, PP, I'll read your links.

I find the video in the second link to be a bit scary - alone on a train, surrounded by and being harangued by burly shaven headed men.

I think she handled it very well, but as it goes on you can hear the stress growing in her voice.

shaska · 14/05/2015 09:07

Small whinge: is anyone else going slowly nuts over the Nivea ad that 4od seems keen to play about fifty times per programme? A girls bum. In pants! Oh! the girls bum again! oooo front view! look! bum with short shorts! she puts the lotion on! bum!

Plus, if you're selling firming bum lotion WHY not sell it with a bigger bum. A bum that size is firm on its own, surely.

Rant over.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 14/05/2015 09:57

They always do that though. Spot cream being liberally slathered over a face that wouldn't know what a spot was etc etc.

Did anyone see/hear about the debate from Conway Hall last night?

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/05/2015 16:45

I think it will take a lot to convince me that putting some cream on your bum will make it firm ... Grin In films also - the "frumpy one" usually wears big glasses and ties up her hair and once she got better glasses (or laser eye surgery or just become a health and safety hazard) and lets her hair down she's absolutely gorgeous and gets the boy, which is of course the Most Important Thing. Hmm

EBearhug · 15/05/2015 14:44

I was looking through some of the groups on our internal networking site.

I am now very curious to know what the private group "Men in Leadership" discuss. The blurb says it's to discuss best practice - I'm just curious to know why they feel that is a discussion which shouldn't include women, and what their views on diversity are. It's possible they do have women members - I'm not part of the group to be able to see - but the title would suggest it's unlikely.

(There is an employee group for women - but they don't exclude men; membership was about 10% men, last time I looked at the figures.)

My niece is apparently becoming self conscious of her legs and insists on covering them up. She's 11. It seems to be a body hair issue, she's quite blonde but I bet there are some girls at school going on about how AWFUL and HAIRY their soft downy arms and legs are, and likewise some mums that let them shave/wax.
Does anyone have any materials or videos or anything to recommend?

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/05/2015 19:44

Sorry to hear that drspouse. :( Not sure what to do. I don't know if I wish upon other people what I was like in my teenage years - completely oblivious to everybody. You get through it without this body-image problem. But you don't make many friends... Hmm Which is worse?

magimedi · 15/05/2015 20:06

Waltzes in.

Orders champagne all round. The tab is mine.

Today I have become a grandmother to a beautiful little woman.

I am over the moon, have had champagne already & vow to make sure she knows about feminism.

I didn't think I was going to ever be a grandmother & to have a granddaughter is just amazing.

Just wanted to share my joy with you all.

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 15/05/2015 20:19

Wow! Congratulations, magi! Very happy for you!

SenecaFalls · 15/05/2015 20:24

Congratulations, magimedi! That is wonderful news. I waited quite a while for grandchildren, too. Now I have three granddaughters; three little feminists-in-training; joy is exactly the word.

magimedi · 15/05/2015 20:27

It's my DIL - not a good time. Induced 2 weeks before due date as her blood pressure was sky high. Took 2 days & forceps but all are fine now.

DIl & DS live in a European country & the health care is amazing - dedicated breast feeding nurse has already been in twice to help. Granddaughter latching on like a good 'un already.

I am veering between laughing & crying - I can not describe the feeling & elation & did not expect to feel as emotional as I do. It's not far off the feeling when I delivered DS.

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/05/2015 20:27

Congratulations! Flowers Flowers

SanityClause · 15/05/2015 20:43

Oh, congratulations magimedi!

When will you get to meet her?

TheLily1957 · 15/05/2015 21:04

How lovely. I wish you joy of her magi

ChunkyPickle · 15/05/2015 21:05

Congrats magimedi!

I just came on here because my sister posted a poem on Facebook supposedly found in an old man's belongings when he died in a care home. Except I'd read it before, but supposedly from a woman instead and it's annoyed me. Personally I think the poem reads like it was written by a woman, and even though the whole story is probably bunkem it annoys me to see it converted to a pretend man's work (red face if it really was written by a man ).

It won't help a teenager, but my 4 year old demanded we go swimming this week, so with no notice, and totally unshaven anywhere (and luxurious dark hair - not sparse blonde) I took him and his brother swimming in the local pool. No-one even looked twice, not a single shit was given by anyone - and it was crowded!

InAndOfMyself · 15/05/2015 21:11

Congratulations magipedi! I hope you get to nuzzle that lovely newborn head soon.

I've just been put into a funk by posting on another thread so it is comforting to come in here and read some lovely news.

MsDragons · 15/05/2015 21:34

Congratulations Magimedi!!
