I haven't read the voting thread, and won't. Not good for my blood pressure.

You can kind of see where the logic for cancelling one another out started. The same principle as 'pairing' of absent MPs. But where that train of reasoning took them........ I have no words. Marvellous for the husband though. Twice as many votes as everyone else in the country.

EBearhug · 25/03/2015 14:02

But cancelling one another out surely only means anything if there are only two candidates?

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/03/2015 14:05

Yes. Though the reality in lots of areas is a two horse race. I just meant that I could see the kernel of starting logic before it went wooooooosh.Grin

ChopperGordino · 25/03/2015 14:12

well quite, and if it is a two-horse race in your area, and you are both voting for one of those two candidates, then surely the cancelling out aspect is a good thing. because the alternative is that the party you don't agree with is two votes up Confused. do people not understand how voting works?

ChopperGordino · 25/03/2015 14:21

or neither of you votes i suppose

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/03/2015 14:51

I don't know what DH will vote for though I know what he WILL NOT vote for. Grin He doesn't know what I will vote for though I think he knows what I WILL NOT vote for. I'm quite happy with that.

Besides how do you know they do vote for what they say they will vote for? That's the whole point of secret ballot - the receipt-freeness and the coercion-resistance that are so hard to replicate in the digital world. (Sorry - studied this a few years back ...)

CollatalieSisters · 25/03/2015 15:30

Last time dh and I sat with our laptops looking at the different parties' policies and comparing them to our views and working out which was least bad. I've no way of knowing how he voted, but unless his whole life is basically a lie, I'm pretty sure he did as he said. This time I might end up voting for a party I strongly dislike, to keep out a party I hate. (I might possibly lie about that.)

Lordc, do your male colleagues get called "mr" by this publisher?

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/03/2015 16:31

I did ask my male colleagues if they were ever addressed as Mr by students or other colleagues. Apparently not.

OublietteBravo · 25/03/2015 18:22

DH didn't used to vote at all before he met me. I'm pretty sure he votes the same way I do most of the time (because he knows I've actually paid attention to 'detail' things like manifestos and policies).

My parents ways vote for different parties - my mum always drags my dad out to vote even though she knows that by doing so it will essentially cancel her vote out.

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/03/2015 19:24

OMG I've finally let my inner pedant out and asked people to define things. Must stop posting and actually find out where the DC are.

YonicScrewdriver · 25/03/2015 19:54

Sisters, I have a very urgent and important request - ignore will and listen to meeeee!

I would like a female equivalent to "belt and braces" but "pad and tampon" are going to be a bit too, err, visceral for my needs.

Inspire me!

magimedi · 25/03/2015 19:58

Suspenders with hold ups??

(From someone who has not worn tights/stockings for about 20+ years - apart from DS's wedding).

OublietteBravo · 25/03/2015 20:00

Socks and slippers?

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/03/2015 20:02

I don't know what "belt and braces" mean. Blush

ChopperGordino · 25/03/2015 20:03

Pill and condom?

(Sorry)

ChopperGordino · 25/03/2015 20:04

That doesn't actually jut apply to women really of course

OublietteBravo · 25/03/2015 20:05

Coil and condom is much more alliterative though.

ChopperGordino · 25/03/2015 20:05

Tights and trousers?

SoMuchForSubtlety · 25/03/2015 20:07

Seatbelt and airbag?

Belt and safety pin. Grin

YonicScrewdriver · 25/03/2015 20:43

I like coil and condom!
(I did think about pill and diaphragm)

Women in braces? Err, where do their breasts sit?

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/03/2015 20:44

Are we talking fancy dress? Confused

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/03/2015 20:44

Hood and umbrella Grin

YonicScrewdriver · 25/03/2015 20:45

LordC, a belt holds up trousers, but so do braces, if you wear both then you are doubly protected from your trousers falling down.
