Just starting this one as the last is nearly full

OP posts:

I watched Poldark. And I read the thread and it made me laugh a lot. I don't even find the bloke particularly sexy at all. He looks too much like my brother (don't get excited, it's only a resemblance I'd see).

But I loved that thread because you so very rarely, outside MN, see women having that kind of self-first attitude. I still think that is a very subversive thing to see women - and not 20-somethings into lad culture but women like motherinferior who can critique normalizing prostitution at the same time - just enjoying saying what they like.

I know that's only part of the argument and there's a counterpoint, but I did like it.

YonicScrewdriver · 23/03/2015 23:13

If the goat runs off, can we get a Nerf?

Grin

I just needed to let out the rage. I'm all placid now.

magimedi · 23/03/2015 23:23

WTF is a Nerf?

Am I being really, more than normally stupid??

????????????

YonicScrewdriver · 23/03/2015 23:28

Sorry!

Princess Leia called Han Solo a Nerf herder in Star Wars. I think it broadly translated as "you peasant"

Nerfs were some kind of bison in a galaxy far far away.

The band who sang the theme tune to Buffy were called Nerf Herder.

Thus endeth the lesson.

magimedi · 23/03/2015 23:32
Flowers

And off to google to learn more.

The mummies on the bus study astrophysics.

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/03/2015 07:40

The mummies on the bus have PhDs in astrophysics. Grin

Good morning.

drspouse do you mean ?

SeraOfeliaFalfurrias · 24/03/2015 08:08

Couldn't we get Nerf guns to shoot the Patriarchy with annoying foam bullets, you know, for minor infractions that don't quite warrant the cannon? Then we could be TERFs and SWERFs with Nerfs!

SeraOfeliaFalfurrias · 24/03/2015 08:09

(what is a SWERF, anyway?)

YonicScrewdriver · 24/03/2015 08:33

Sex Worker ERF.

StormyBrid · 24/03/2015 09:07

Is SWERF as inherently ridiculous as TERF? We don't seem to have had quite the volume of SWERF threads so my knowledge is lacking.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 24/03/2015 09:32

I read swerf as social worker erf

Was wondering what the poor social workers had done...

StormyBrid · 24/03/2015 10:08

They persistently object to all attempts to sacrifice the boy children?

drspouse · 24/03/2015 10:25

LordC that is fabulous. Except it has just woken DD. She was downstairs, too.

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/03/2015 11:48

Glad you like it. Grin DC were laughing about it earlier.

But there was no mud puddle. I need to find one with a proper puddle. (I'm doing a REALLY DULL TASK at work ...)

StormyBrid · 24/03/2015 13:19

Why did I look at the oldest you should have a baby thread? Thoroughly depressing. Although mainly because of the reminder of why my own cut off age is thirty. No one (at least as far as I read) said the same. And now feeling somewhat isolated. Sad

ChunkyPickle · 24/03/2015 13:51

My cut-off was 30, which is why I had my first at 32 and my second at 35. I think I had that latin for older mother on all my notes even for the 32 one. I'm wasting enough time here without spending time on a thread that will infuriate me.

As my dad says, Rules are for the guidance of wise men (err.. or women presumably) and the obedience of fools :)

FibonacciSeries · 24/03/2015 13:56

I'm not looking at that thread. I married late so no kids and I've just had enough of people implying I'm being selfish by not "trying".

JeanneDeMontbaston · 24/03/2015 13:59

I can't find the thread. What was your reasoning (if you don't mind me asking), stormy?

JeanneDeMontbaston · 24/03/2015 14:09

Thanks.

ChunkyPickle · 24/03/2015 14:33

Oh, it's the cutoff at the other end...

Well, personally I don't intend to have any more kids - but that's nothing to do with age, and everything to do with freedom!

I can't really see why you need a cut-off. If we spent all our time looking at risk factors and what-ifs then we'd never do anything. Anyone can get sick, anyone can have an accident, babies can have issues whatever the age of the mother (or father). I know plenty of women in their late 40s with babies, I know plenty of grandparents who take major roles in child-rearing, it seems to me that a cut-off is just putting more pressure on people for no decent reason.

BlackRide, I'll be damned if I know! Something about getting to regret it later, and also depriving my parents of grandchildren. I try to not pay attention.

On other news, while I commend Mo'Ne Davis for being a class act, I don't think she should be so gracious to this guy. Calling a 13 year old a slut? Really?
