Hello

Some things wot I noticed…

Voting

That voting thread is a classic:
Lots of posts “Oh, I’m voting Green” “So am I”
Two minutes later when some of the Green’s policies are explained
“Oh, I’m not voting Green”

Like a shoal of fish some people –why not find out a party’s policies before declaring you will vote for them?

Don’t feed

17 pages of people not, repeat not at all, getting wound up by Magnetic’s dim postings.

Passive Aggression

Lots of it.
HTH

Freedom of speech

A recent quote: “Freedom of speech is noble, something worth protecting and I’m increasingly pissed off that the principles are being applied to protect twats”
ie I’m all for free speech when I agree with the speaker.

Men

This is the best one.

Massive generalisations about men. Occasionally prefaced with the fig leaf of “Not all men”.

As soon as a person makes a generalisation about Feminists, up comes the cry “We’re not Borg / of a Hive mind” etc.

Are these things on MN boards in general, or this FWR board in particular?

Quite the invasion lately. Clearly sober January is up.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 09/02/2015 19:49

Oh wow, thank you!

I look forward to reading your oh, so incisive critiques of each topic as you go through them. Although, naturally I am deeply gratified that you chose FWR for your inaugural musings, I wonder why someone with your obviously towering intellect would stoop to pick such low hanging fruit.

HTH

I read the voting thread and it did start off reading as if posters were voting Green simply because Greens were assumed to be left wing, liberal, caring and generally nicer than all the rest without thinking it through. However it became interesting in that it did draw out what Green policies are.

And it is always wrong to criticise anyone who says " sorry, I was wrong, I didn't have all the facts". Admitting you were wrong is a good thing.

The thread asking men to tell feminists what to be concerned about is one of the worst I've seen on MN in the time I've been reading and occasionally posting (about 2 years)

There were a couple of idiots posting yesterday but rather than ignore them some one starts a whole new thread inviting them to post. The regular posters then go into overdrive responding to their ludicrous replies.

Sorry but no-one came out if it well. If it had been on AIBU at some point somebody would have pointed out how ridiculous the thread had become.

The hyperbolic use of "it's our ladyzee's brains" etc when it's used over and over as it was in that thread is tiresome and not funny.

I'm sure Magnetic couldn't care less what anyone said to him beyond the fact he got the responses he was probably hoping for. I expect he'll be linking to it on a forum frequented by other Magnetic minded people.

TiggyD · 09/02/2015 21:26

Very true with that last point Still. Magnetic people will stick together.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 09/02/2015 21:26

They certainly seem to, yes.

StillLostAtTheStation · 09/02/2015 21:30

Nuances get lost on forums Tiggy do you mean I'm sticking with Magnetic because I have been critical of that thread?

Or is it just a pun!

StillLostAtTheStation · 09/02/2015 21:33

Puffins I'm taking from that comment that you're twisting what I said to be support of Magnetic?

It really wasn't. He said things which were too stupid to even be worth commenting on but I don't think anyone comes out of it well.

ApocalypseThen · 09/02/2015 21:40

So we've a public to maintain standards for. That's actually quite surprising.

StillLostAtTheStation · 09/02/2015 21:53

It's an open public forum. It gets read. I read it. I formed an opinion of it. If this had been my first visit after reading that it would probably be my last.

In my opinion the criticism of the voting thread is unjustified; the criticism of the other thread isn't.

FloraFox · 09/02/2015 21:54

Some people are not coming out of this thread well.

Horses for courses.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 09/02/2015 22:03

Still ummmm, no, not at all. What a very odd thing to say.

I think it's quite interesting that one obviously goady thread, which was started as a way to let off steam after several hours of being faced with utter twattery is being put down on a thread started by an obviously goady fucker who merely wants to piss people off though.

What would I know? And, to be frank, I am far too tired to even think straight.

StillLostAtTheStation · 09/02/2015 22:07

Flora divergence of opinion really isn't liked on here is it?

I'm sure all who contributed to that thread thought it was hilarious. I didn't. I can't see what the point was of engaging with someone who so obviously had no motive other than winding you up.

Did you think he/they were going to be convinced by anything that was said? Why feed him/them?

ApocalypseThen · 09/02/2015 22:10

If this had been my first visit after reading that it would probably be my last.

Well it's entirely your own option, of course, but since reviews of poster's performances appears to be the sum of the contribution you're prepared to make, do you really think it's incumbent on anyone to provide material worthy of your notice?

InAndOfMyself · 09/02/2015 22:14

I think the opening post is goady and not in the spirit of mumsnet.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 09/02/2015 22:21

Anyway, apologies if this looks like a pile on to Still.

GF thread starter doesn't have the ovaries to return and is therefore not worth the effort of commenting further.

Night all.

StillLostAtTheStation · 09/02/2015 22:21

Apocalypse I do post. I name change frequently. I don't wish to be a personality.

FloraFox · 09/02/2015 22:37

still there are lots of regular posters on here I don't agree with on lots of points. I don't know what your opinions are, all you're doing is complaining about how others have posted. Why should I bother engaging with you about why I or others did or didn't engage with someone else?

TiggyD · 09/02/2015 22:43

Still, near pun based solely on name.

StillLostAtTheStation · 09/02/2015 23:39

Flora my opinion on this matter is quite clear. That thread will only have reinforced all that silly, nasty little man's prejudices.

AnyFucker · 09/02/2015 23:47

but what about the fucking jaffa cakes
