Hello

Some things wot I noticed…

Voting

That voting thread is a classic:
Lots of posts “Oh, I’m voting Green” “So am I”
Two minutes later when some of the Green’s policies are explained
“Oh, I’m not voting Green”

Like a shoal of fish some people –why not find out a party’s policies before declaring you will vote for them?

Don’t feed

17 pages of people not, repeat not at all, getting wound up by Magnetic’s dim postings.

Passive Aggression

Lots of it.
HTH

Freedom of speech

A recent quote: “Freedom of speech is noble, something worth protecting and I’m increasingly pissed off that the principles are being applied to protect twats”
ie I’m all for free speech when I agree with the speaker.

Men

This is the best one.

Massive generalisations about men. Occasionally prefaced with the fig leaf of “Not all men”.

As soon as a person makes a generalisation about Feminists, up comes the cry “We’re not Borg / of a Hive mind” etc.

Yops... when you make a woman laugh, is she laughing at you, or along with you?

That would be the difference, I think.

I forgot laboured sarcasm

Ooooh, I don't think you did. Both your posts on this entire site have positively dripped with it, dear. However, don't let us stop you making an arse of yourself, we like free expression on Mumsnet.

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2015 17:37

More Margaret Atwood.

"Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them."

Feminist cakes are cakes you can have and eat.

(Never understood that about having your cake and eat it. What's the bloody point of having a cake if you don't eat it?)

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2015 17:40

I am waiting for the rice to cook, while berating male children for taking too long changing, and MNing, and thinking how to conjure up healthy vegetables out of thin air. That is being a proper woman and multitasking.

staples765 · 10/02/2015 17:51

"we like laboured sarcasm on Mumsnet"

There. Fixed it for you dear.

Still

No one has told you to fuck off back to AIBU. In fact, you saying that is nastier than anyone on this thread has been to you.

Cunt is in common use on MNand the poster's use of "daft cunt" it on t'other thread was in direct response to him claiming "love" was a term of endearment he had the right to use whether the female recipient liked it or not. Context makes a difference, don't you think?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 10/02/2015 18:22

Ohh hahaha, my actual sides.

Still are you one of those NC'ers who perpetually feels she is being hunted out of FWR back to fluffy AIBU?

staples765 · 10/02/2015 19:37

and when sarcasm doesn't do it..

..resort to swearing!

Appreciate that you haven't ventured outside FWR yet, OP, but there's a lot more swearing to be had Out There...

PuffinsAreFictitious · 10/02/2015 19:47

No Flora... I think they are one of those name changers that is best ignored. Mostly, because they seem to be getting off on it.

Menace, no swearing from me. For a change Grin

StillLostAtTheStation · 10/02/2015 20:12

I name change as I don't want to be a personality on here. Who I am is irrelevant. Take each comment as you find it. Some posters stick with a name , others change regularly.

Knickerful I'm a regular poster here and on AIBU .

It was a genuine query. It's not the swearing which shocks but the use of words for genitals to be used as terms of insult for both men and women.

Seems very strange given how important they are and how much fun they give us.

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2015 20:19

How does one become a personality on here? Perhaps that will be my new hobby.

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 10/02/2015 20:22

You're up against a lot of history there, Still! It's probably more to go with the fact they were taboo words, same as fucking etc and as Christ or Damn used to be, rather than any greater consideration that actually fucking is nice so why is it an insult?

Out if interest, do you critique the use of cunt on AIBU too?

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 10/02/2015 20:24

Really you don't understand the concept of names becoming familiar? Posting history revealing a real life background which becomes knowledge? I can think of posters whose names I recognise and think oh yes that's the poster who ....

I don't want that. Possibly it's more common on AIBU.

In a thread about name changes several posters said they change regularly as they don't want the chumminess of using the same name. I don't.

OP

EBearhug · 11/02/2015 02:30

Never understood that about having your cake and eat it. What's the bloody point of having a cake if you don't eat it?

I know this! (Because it never made sense to me, either, and to be honest, still doesn't, really.)

If you have a cake, you can look at it and admire it and drool over it and smell it and anticipate the cake. You have one cake.

And then you eat the cake, so you no longer have the cake, and you can't look at it and admire it and all the rest of it. You cannot have your cake, because you have eaten it.

It's basically saying you've got a binary choice. Things are either state1 or state2, but can't be both. Unless it's Schrödinger's cake or you go to the shop to get more cake.

Hazchem · 11/02/2015 04:02

Because of this thread I believe all sponge cake shall be called cock cake or at least in my head anyway

Hazchem · 11/02/2015 04:05

Oh and I am currently making egg cake* which I think sounds very feminsity because women have eggs.

*egg cake are mini Frittata's but if I call them egg cake DS will actually eat them.

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/02/2015 07:31

Good trick about egg cake.

The problem about having cake and eat it can be solved by having two cakes. Everyone should have two cakes anyway.
