This is the 17th incarnation of the Feminist Pub!

Here be goats, cannons and chat on feminism and related themes. Also snacks. And booze, copious booze.

Welcome!

I've had to work all day (deadline fast approaching), but DH brought me a creme brulee from my favorite restaurant and I blew him a kiss in return. We don't make a big deal about Valentines.

It's cold here too (in Florida). We'll have a fire in the fireplace tonight, too. My plan is to watch The Theory of Everything and drink spiked hot chocolate.

I just saw this on CNN. As a Georgia native and distant acquaintance (everyone from Georgia knows Jimmy Carter) I am especially appreciative of this ally:

I am so in love with Jimmy Carter. A man who lives and breathes the principles he built his life upon.

I must call my DSis in Fl and ask her how she's coping with the weather. I'm not sure she even possesses a sweater!

SconeRhymesWithGone · 15/02/2015 03:33

Yes, he's a good man, our Jimmy.

Just sauntering in for a Brew after the lovely veggie full English DH made. This has been very useful as DD2 and DS are both teething so want to bf constantly which makes me very hungry.

I also want to know if anyone but me watches Orphan Black because I have seen some trailers for series 3 and am very excited.

We don't bother with Valentines either. Dd1 got a card from a girl she likes, so she's happy. Dd2 made a card for dp and me at school, but she's decided that she wants to give it to grandma and grandad instead because she doesn't see them as often

I watch Orphan Black Arti. When's series 3 starting?

SoMuchForSubtlety · 15/02/2015 17:42

Oops I missed the start of another pub! Marking place now to catch up.

Artifexmumdi · 15/02/2015 18:57

Dragonlette, new Orphan Black is not until April but the Mary Sue has some trailers. I thought of it because there was a certain way that series 2 ended that made my feministy instincts grumble a bit. I don't want to say more as I don't want to spoiler it for anyone yet to be introduced to its magnificence, but I bet you can guess what annoyed me.

We ignored Valentines Day. I had a crippling headache.

Hello late arrival here. I have a friend who recommended the Feminism Chat bit.
Been enjoying the thread inviting the men to tell us feminists what we should concern ourselves with. Learnt something new 'Cool Girl' is a Thing. (which doesn't exist according to Bim from the Guardian). And Jaffa Cakes ARE cakes and not biscuits. Also that if you don't rake DH's name he (and his family) be disrespected.
So what's the topic tonight on this thread?

alsmutko · 15/02/2015 19:50

Take his name not rake. Sigh.

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/02/2015 19:52

Hello alsmutko!

Been out all day with nice friends. And it feels like spring, finally! Smile

PetulaGordino · 15/02/2015 19:57

hi alsmutko!

i had another nice day on my own today. planted LOTS of seeds. coldframe and windowsills now full

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/02/2015 19:58

I've got some rosemary baby plants from the semi-hard cutting from beginning of winter. (The sage ones all died ...) But can't get enough enthusiasm to pot them up...

GibberingFlapdoodle · 15/02/2015 20:00

Good grief you're doing well Petula. Haven't even started planning yet. Not going to next week either as it's kids hols here.

PetulaGordino · 15/02/2015 20:00

it does feel quite springlike. i was thinking that when sitting outside in the mud! there were two VERY interested robins

i have set the casual vacancy to record, but i don't know anything about it other than that the book was written by j k rowling. did anyone here read the book?

PetulaGordino · 15/02/2015 20:01

it's more by necessity tbh gibber - i'm busy most weekends in march

alsmutko · 15/02/2015 20:14

It was a lovely day here in London. Just as well as the dog demanded five walks. DP went off to the park to prune the community orchard and I read the RSPB magazine and had a phone call from DD on some twat who runs a 'non-racist, non-sexist' nightclub who made an anti-Semitic comment.

alsmutko · 15/02/2015 20:15

In between reading Petula's thread of course - great stuff Petula.

alsmutko · 15/02/2015 20:16

About to catch up with Spiral. May watch The Casual Vacancy. Didn't read it though. Didn't appeal.

OublietteBravo · 15/02/2015 20:20

Hi everyone - looks like it has been quiet in here over the weekend.

DH and I had a night in a hotel for valentines day - but only because we were visiting my family, and couldn't face the sofa bedSmile. We usually only do cards if we remember - we agreed years ago not to buy in to the whole valentines thing.

Right. Must get on. DS was sick all over himself in the car on the way home today, so I have laundry to do...

ChunkyPickle · 15/02/2015 20:31

Last night DP and I decided that we shouldn't have listened to everyone and got DS a bunk bed (he's 4, DS2 is 1), and I did an evening run to Ikea to follow our original plan and get a double instead.

Today I took apart the bunks, put together the double, and now we have the cutest little babes in the wood style sleep over happening in DS1's bedroom - which means DP and I finally have a bed to ourselves (co-sleepers since DS2 was born).

Now just need to make sure there is no accidental DS3!

kickassangel · 15/02/2015 20:53

It is -25C here today and you are talking bout planting seeds!

We are meant to be out buying DH a suit but DD has a sudden attack of the runs so I'm sitting in the toilets at Macy's and catching up on MN. DH is hovering around wanting to try on suits and get my opinion.
