Unbelievable - apparently they've already lost one sponsor...

OP posts:

RESULT!!

I am so glad that Oldham haven't signed him.

Still disgraceful that they considered it in the first place.

OnlyLovers · 08/01/2015 17:17

boltonn, genuine question: are those football 'fans' who've been chanting 'Ched Evans, he fucks who he wants' for the past couple of years the same ones who, in your opinion, should have the final say as to his professional future?

And on 'white feminists sat in London', do you think it's true that a) this group is the only one that's signed the petition and/or b) this group should not have a say? If your answer to b) is 'yes' then, again, genuinely, I'd like to hear why.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 08/01/2015 17:46

It's great that OAFC have decided not to sign him.

It's a bit of a Pyrrhic victory though.

Allegations against the 'anti's' have been greeted with glee by those sections of social media who have been issuing death and rape threats against us for the last few months. Despite them being denied to the Police, they still crop up in the statement.

The Owner, it seems, is to flounce, taking his money with him, which may mean that OAFC won't exist by the end of the season. Which would be a great shame, as he seems to have been the main motivator behind the move, so all the approbation rests with him, but OAFC will be left with the fallout.

Koalafications · 08/01/2015 18:01

Completely agree Puffins

BugBugBug · 08/01/2015 18:35

So pleased he has stood down. Apology was very half arsed. As was said above, it would mean more if they took the website down.

Marchhairy · 08/01/2015 19:33

Great result!
Re: White London Feminists- I work next to the latics ground and frequently get stuck in match traffic- whilst this isn't a scientific study I don't think OAFC fans are representative of the ethnic mix of Oldham.

AWholeLottaNosy · 08/01/2015 20:15

Just love that, "White London feminists sat in London"Grin

WLFSIL. yay!!

BreakingDad77 · 08/01/2015 20:26

Reading a bit of a backstory of the club. It seems like the boss Has been trying to leave the club, has he used ched Evans as a way to pass blame on the club's folding or am I just inventing conspiracies

TrojanWhore · 08/01/2015 20:27

I have never heard the users of ARRSE described as 'white London feminists' before.

Or is it somehow different when posts on their Ched thread condemn high profile employment of rapists and debunk myths around this case?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 08/01/2015 20:44

It would seem so, Trojan.

Just those white feminists in London, it seems. So not me either then.

Gordon Taylor has excelled himself by suggesting that Ched's plight is comparable to the Hillsborough families'. Just when I thought that Evans was the worst we have produced for a while in the UK......

AWholeLottaNosy · 08/01/2015 21:11

Gordon Taylor is a ( unpronounceable...)

YonicSleighdriver · 08/01/2015 21:13

Makes sense, bd. After all, 7 weeks ago they said they weren't considering CE.

clam · 08/01/2015 21:41

Bet the Hillsborough families will be thrilled to learn that.

VikingVolva · 08/01/2015 21:54

I haven't seen any response from the Hillsborough Families Support Group yet.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 08/01/2015 21:55

Statement from GMP regarding threats made...

Greater Manchester Police has released a statement clarifying its position on alleged threats made towards Oldham Athletic board members, saying it was not investigating any threats and had not received any official complaints.

A spokesman said: "Greater Manchester Police would like to make it explicitly clear it is not currently investigating reports of either death threats or threats of a sexual nature made to anyone associated with Oldham Athletic FC.

"No such reports have as yet been made to Greater Manchester Police.

"The force has received a small number of complaints about comments made on social networking sites, however none of these relate to any direct threats made to individuals or their families. Advice has been given that if anyone wished to report these comments as potential criminal offences they can do so and we will act accordingly. However no such reports have as yet been made."

clam · 08/01/2015 22:01

I wonder is someone has misinterpreted a tweet or something along the lines of, "how would you like it if this happened to your daughter" as being a threat to rape?

Disclaimer (after mass misunderstanding on other thread): THIS IS A HYPOTHETICAL MUSING.

sashh · 09/01/2015 09:06

Also, he can't really say whether the people hounding his victim on social media are his supporters or not, can he? I'm sure they'd maintain that they are.

He is currently tweeting from the account set up while he was in prison and run, then, by his gf and sister.

Some of the worst tweets are from the accounts of his sister, mother and girlfriend. The website is in his name and has statements from him on it. His cousin has a conviction for naming the victim.

So while he can't speak for all the trolls some are very close to him.

Childrenofthestones · 09/01/2015 09:40

Check out Julia Hartley-Brewer on last night's QT on BBC 1, doing a Judy Finnigan and probably about to get a large bucket of hate poured over her.

BreakingDad77 · 09/01/2015 10:02

On radio 4 some Prof who has worked with the Hillsborough familes was aware that that of the ones he had dealings with they had been offended by being associated with the case.

AWholeLottaNosy · 09/01/2015 18:39

Just wanted to add this. Apparently Vince Cable's aide has said that CE is 'probably not guilty'. WTFF??

AskBasil · 10/01/2015 10:54

I've just done a post about Julia Hartley-Brewer's rape awful comments.

In a ranty mood this week

northender · 10/01/2015 12:04

Fantastic blog basil. I hope that the high profile nature of this story makes more people discuss the issues you write about so eloquently. Dh and I have discussed the case and the related issues around consensual sex with our 13yo ds. I've discussed my views with friends who don't necessarily share my views 100% and hope I've provoked some thoughts in them.

scallopsrgreat · 10/01/2015 12:21

Great post Basil. You've really articulated the planned nature of rape, by the rapist even if the victim hasn't been singled out until just before the rape. In fact that just shows how women are interchangeable objects to a rapist.

scallopsrgreat · 10/01/2015 12:23

Ched Evans didn't give a shit who his victim was. She was just someone to fuck.

LeBearPolar · 10/01/2015 13:53

What I hated most about watching Julia Hartley-Brewer was her repulsive (and it really was repulsive) sense of pride in the inane - and actually stupid - remarks she was making. Referring to the "sisterhood" in such a way that you could practically see the air-quotes, and smirking at what a Cool Girl she is. And I was desperate for someone to pick her up on the factual inaccuracies she made despite claiming to have read extensively about the case. If she had, she would know why one of the men was convicted and the other not. I'm guessing her extensive reading consisted of the Ched Evans website?
