Feminist Pub 14: The Bluestocking, a place for feminist chat and feminists to chat

Welcome!

This is the 14th incarnation of the Pub and is meant as a place to drop by with random thoughts and meandering chats, on feminist or other related themes. Anything you want to mull over but not necessarily start a thread about. Alternatively, flop onto the chaise lounges with some Wine

We have a pub goat, a feminist cannon for firing at crazy sexists and a variety of drinks and snacks. And stools/bar counters at female friendly heights. And a crèche in the back somewhere

Will link the last pub in the next post!

Fibonacci No Sky here. But Mrs Bradley looks promising. Ladies' finishing school. Someone murdered. Grin

Writing aims and scope was my fucking JOB (until recently)

That sort of shit would not have happened whilst I was being paid for it

AnnieLobeseder · 20/11/2014 20:05

I posted this earlier but it got lost in an actual Serious Conversation About Feminist Issues so no-one responded. But I am sad and needy so I'm posting again while we're being chatty.

I am sulking because I have had yet another "we thought you were great in interview but the other candidate was slightly more awesome so we're offering the job to them" email. Gah! I need a job!

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/11/2014 20:05

Annie I was going to say that but refrained. Grin

PetulaGordino · 20/11/2014 20:06

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/11/2014 20:06

Annie Flowers

Dragonlette · 20/11/2014 20:13

Sorry about the job Annie. Flowers It's always crap when someone else is just a bit more awesome than you. I hope you're the most awesome for the next one.

WorkingBling · 20/11/2014 20:14

Sorry Annie. I have had a lot of those in the past. Hideously depressing. You will find something eventually but it's torture, I know.

FibonacciSeries · 20/11/2014 20:17

Job hunting is soul destroying.

OublietteBravo · 20/11/2014 20:18

I think we also need a journal of Desperately Disappointing Data. To report things that just don't work. So that future researchers don't waste their time re-doing pointless experiments (the kind that show no significant difference between sample and control at all).

OublietteBravo · 20/11/2014 20:21

Sad Annie - I hate that type of email.

FibonacciSeries · 20/11/2014 20:21

There is a company I really, really, really want to work for because it covers two of my biggest passions in life (one of them being obviously IT). I just know I'd do a brilliant job. I've applied to their mid lever management positions more than once. Get a rejection within half a hour (which means my resume hasn't hit enough key words or hasn't made it past HR). I managed to track down someone who works there and get him to hand deliver my resume to the CIO. Still nothing. I suspect it's because I come from a different industry, but you know what, the guys they are hiring for these jobs also come from different industries and I bet you they don't feel half as passionate as I do. It bugs me so much.

The irony is, this job is for a publishers, and the interviewer and I had a very passionate discussion on our agreement there is indeed a need for a Journal of Desperately Disappointing Data. Sad

OublietteBravo · 20/11/2014 20:50

That really is ironicGrin

I hope my previous post didn't sound too flippant. I genuinely believe that this type of journal is needed. In fact, I believe this to be a common view point within the research community.

Sorry about the job Annie.

trevortrevorslattery · 20/11/2014 22:04

Bah Annie that is rubbish Hmm

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 20/11/2014 22:21

OMW, that thread.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 20/11/2014 22:22

annie, I am sorry. But, I do wonder TBH. This was a job intereview where, if I understand rightly, you might have done better. They are not going to want to offer you the job if chances are you will take something else, or have one foot out of the door, so if I have understood that situation rightly, then FGS don't beat yourself up. You're a highly qualified person. You'll get something as good or better.

YonicScrewdriver · 20/11/2014 22:23

Sorry Annie. Good luck for viva though!
