The old pub now has less than 10 posts to go, so I thought I'd start a new one. The old one can be found here

This is a place for feminist pom pom waving and talking about stuff which might not need a thread for itself.

Fill your boots.

I nearly did, but I thought he might combust. So I share it here for your delectation.

Zazzles007 · 10/09/2014 14:54

I would share it for his delectation on your behalf Penguins, but I have run out of attachments in my last round of efforts Grin. If he starts posting stuff at you, just ignore and find more stuff to post, that's what I did Grin. Annoys the crap out of them.

OutsSelf · 10/09/2014 14:59

Not sure if this is the right place to say, but since meetups were mentioned, my brilliant friend, who is a very excellent feminist * and teaches Judith Butler * and is engaged in trans issues, may be in Londontown in October and might be willing to talk it through with us, shall I try to arrange she speaks to us? I know we'd be theoretically rigorous with her, ahem, I'm sure she could withstand it, people might welcome the discussion?

FloraFox · 10/09/2014 15:59

Petula I can imagine that would be very frustrating. Even from London it's obvious how focused on London the Westminster politicians are, particularly the current lot from all sides.

AnnieLobeseder · 10/09/2014 16:15

I am very disappointed that MNHQ has gone all heavy-handed and is deleting the MRA thread. Doesn't that just prove his point?

AnnieLobeseder · 10/09/2014 16:15

On the plus side, maybe I'll get some work done.

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 10/09/2014 16:17

They seem to have locked it atm.

PetulaGordino · 10/09/2014 16:19

flora tbh i'm a bit of an imposter - i live in the home counties which is almost as bad in terms of SE-England-centricity!

i'm not pro-independence for all counties in england obviously (though that might be fun in theory), but it is a massive problem in terms of how westminster interacts with other regions as you've perfectly demonstrated in your skit

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/09/2014 16:23

I think it should be deleted earlier or not at all. It's like giving in to toddlers after they whine at you for long enough. Either you give in immediately or you never.

That's my philosophy for handling whining. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/09/2014 16:28

But I don't think they know London either. We are in the 'burbs and they looked pretty foreign to us too. It's just Westminster, bunch of over-privileged men making decisions about things they know nothing about. How did we come to that?

i think it was ever thus lordc, so it's just a continuation of the same

i'm sure you're right about the rest of london

BelleCurve · 10/09/2014 16:49

I've just worked out the indyref thread is independence referendum. I thought it was a computer game like GTA Blush

PetulaGordino · 10/09/2014 16:51

bellecurve if it helps for ages i thought the threads on here with "indyref" in the title were something to do with private schools...

PetulaGordino · 10/09/2014 17:04

did you hear about rupert murdoch saying that he thought page three was old-fashioned?

probably the closest his views and mine have ever come to converging

AnnieLobeseder · 10/09/2014 17:11

Some FB groups I follow, and others apparently, have seen Murdoch's Tweet at face value, as in he is genuinely asking for opinions. I have replied, many others have too. Anyone want to join in?

AnnieLobeseder · 10/09/2014 17:11

have *taken Murdoch's Tweet at face value

yeslove · 10/09/2014 17:11

Outself I would be up for that too if I could get childcare etc. etc.

ZennorCalling · 10/09/2014 17:30

Hi Outs I would also be interested in joining you for the Butler chat if I can make it

AnnieLobeseder · 10/09/2014 17:31

I thought this was great - What I Will Teach My Boys

LRDtheFeministDragon · 10/09/2014 17:33

I would like that too, please, outs.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 10/09/2014 17:51

Well done to all of you who contributed to the MRA thread- you were very eloquent and I'm glad it hasn't been deleted.

I don't understand the indyref at all. It's as if Cameron et al have only just realised that a yes vote might prevail. There seems to be no plan at all! I'm also in the Home Counties and get very annoyed that my local news is entirely London based. I don't work in London and have no ties to the place and am frustrated that its proximity pushes up house prices here.

StormyBrid · 10/09/2014 18:02

My inner petulant child thinks that, if Scotland decides to stay, we should have a referendum about whether to keep them. The rest of me is busy screaming "Please don't leave us with those wankers!"

I'm glad I went and read the MRA thread while I had the chance. A certain poster reminded me of Dickens - seventy bazillion words used to say nothing at all. MRAs aren't paid by the word, are they?

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/09/2014 18:25

I once read that Dumas (the older? younger? the one who wrote the count of monte cristo) was paid by words. So he padded things out ... Though I'm sure I read too that he had people who filled things out for him. Maybe that's someone else. Hmm... Confused

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 10/09/2014 19:44

OH's family are all scots, but I'm completely ignorant of what independence would mean, I can't make sense of what it would look like practically.
