The old pub now has less than 10 posts to go, so I thought I'd start a new one. The old one can be found here

This is a place for feminist pom pom waving and talking about stuff which might not need a thread for itself.

Fill your boots.

Here

I think maybe the particular poster has just got to core of her issue. She has already repeatedly disclosed that her son takes it. She worries that if people kick up a fuss about compliance then the drug will be withdrawn entirely.

Checking in. Hi everyone. I'll have a pint of Bacardi and Tizer.

Morning. Smile Thanks for the lovely new pub Capt and thanks (I think) for the link to the Roaccutane thread Penguins. I read about half of it and had to stop. Forcing a woman to take hormonal contraception when her method of contraception is lesbianism is, to my obviously befuddled male brain, outrageous. I mean, the chances of her getting pregnant are as close to zero as it's possible to get, other than being dead. Or male.

Please excuse the ramble and correct me if I'm wrong or if I misunderstood.

Welcome back Buffy, how was your holiday?

Mmmmm Bacardi & Tizer. Now that's something I'd have tried as a student. I was a bit of a Bacardi monster. Can't drink it now without feeling sick! So I'll give it a miss.

Is it too early for wine? I've got to make about three dozen cupcakes with DS1 for pre-school tomorrow. It's his last day on Tuesday before Big School on Wednesday. I'm not ready for this step. He is though!

(Bacardi & Tizer - a comment by Billy Connelly, can't remember anything else about the sketch, but just that line. Always wanted to order it, but not have to drink it. this seems like a good place)

About the forced contraceptive thing. Aren't people missing the point that ANY drug ever can be taken inappropriately, causing problems for the patient and/or others? All drugs require an element of trust between doctor & patient. Here you can get prescription hash, I know people who use it for migraines and sell the stuff. Ritalin is another popular drug which is closely watched. There are plenty of diseases that men can spread through unprotected sex - do they get forced to use condoms before they're allowed treatment?

So - does that mean that we should all be signing forms and having tests to check that we take meds properly?

It seems that as soon as it comes to pregnancy/babies, all trust flies out the window and there start to be attempts at total control.

Interesting how it's applied to women getting pregnant. I can think of any number of reasons why men's fertility & sex life could be curbed for the greater good of others, but no attempts being made there.

iirc there are prescription drugs which if taken by a man can cause sperm abnormalities which could have an impact if they got a woman pregnant

i have a relative who very sadly had a number of miscarriages, and it was suggested by HCPs that one cause could have been that her husband, who has very bad psoriasis, had had long periods of taking such a drug which may have affected sperm quality and therefore the viability of the pregnancy. he was no longer taking the drug, but the lasting side effects could possibly still have been felt (this is by no means definite btw, it was just one theory)

i don't know how men's fertility is handled when they are prescribed such things, beyond strong advice not to get a woman pregnant while taking it.

Hello all.

My dd2 starts big school next Monday. I'm thrilled! Our childcare bill will drop massively and we'll have some means of saving towards dd1 going off to university in a few years. Dd2 demanded boys' shoes for school and turned her nose up at all the girls' styles that the fitter tried to show her, so she's got black trainer style shoes with dinosaur footprints on the soles, and pink wellies. She's so excited!

Sorry you've got earache Buffy. Get better soon.

I'm back at work tomorrow :(

I've succumbed and bought The Late Scholar, the latest JPW Wimsey. I'll report back on feminism, or lack of, therein.

Dd's birthday party has just drawn to an end. There was a bit of a crisis earlier with two late cancels and 3 unknowns but the unknowns did turn up and they've all spent 4 hours running around and screaming.

I have a bottle of wine and one freaked out cat to nurse gently while I play on the iPad. Wine

It was really just a glorified play date. Dd is now 11 so we are getting past the full on party stage, thankfully. It was only 6 kids (would have been 8, could have been 3) including DD so the late cancellations were a bit worrying. Still, I massively over catered, particularly with the chocolate ice cream cake, so that's dinner sorted for the next few days.

Lazy day tomorrow then back to school.

Gosh, it's a long time since I was in Vegas. There's a Cirque de Soleil show that dd wants to see but we'll have to be a bit careful. We've never stayed there, only used it as a rest stop on the way through, but I fancy some winter sun and thought we could land there before heading to Death Valley. May plan the Vegas bit more carefully.

We are back to school on Wednesday. We have done the PE kit. DS1 to secondary school next year so forms to be filled at some point. Luckily all nearby schools look pretty acceptable. One made a point of uniforms. Hate it when people confuse pedantry with discipline. Hmm

I have a new office that I haven't seen yet. Not been in since a couple of weeks ago. Wednesday will be spent trying to get the new key. Grin
