The old pub now has less than 10 posts to go, so I thought I'd start a new one. The old one can be found here

This is a place for feminist pom pom waving and talking about stuff which might not need a thread for itself.

Fill your boots.

For your gallant efforts there Thanks

What? I don't think I'd better go see what you're talking about, not sure my brain could handle a thread where opposing racism is negative.

There was a thread where people steadily refused to see that a certain word is used as a racist abuse against Chinese people. I had to leave ...

Uptoapoint I feel your pain. I found myself stupidly arguing with someone on another thread that IN FACT most strippers are NOT phd students, and that many women in sex trade do not do it "cos they like it". I need a drink and I'm having one

Total barge in here to nab myself a table because I've got to go to bed, but slight moan. Why does DH make a comment which seems to be inviting discussion ("I didn't think HTTYD 2 was sexist, like they said it was.") and then about three sentences in boils it down to "Well I think people are just thinking too much about it." Hmm Are you interested in the argument or not? Gah. Drives me mad and is why I never bother to initiate feminist discussion with him. Perhaps I should Grin

There was a thread the other day where I was just Shock at the first about ten responses. Can't remember what it was now.

Report
BertieBotts · 03/09/2014 21:08

Oh yes! It was about a friend who had dressed up in blackface. Apparently according to most of the earlier responders "it's not racist because she admires the person"

WTF????????

WishesAndStars · 03/09/2014 21:10

I've had to step away from the blackface thread - absolutely Confused at what is being said.

erm, derail, but Bertie, what do you think about HTTYD2 and sexism?

UptoapointLordCopper · 03/09/2014 21:24

On another note, apparently all this equality initiatives may backfire, by allowing women to be promoted beyond their competence. >

I give up.

Am I allowed to give up?

uptoapoint How to Train Your Dragon 2. There's been some, shall we say, heated debate about whether the character of Valka is a feminist icon or not.

Report
UptoapointLordCopper · 03/09/2014 21:48

I see ... Hmm. Is there a conclusion? I won't have said she was ... Her thing was about dragons, not women ... She was a great Dragonist icon.
