The old pub now has less than 10 posts to go, so I thought I'd start a new one. The old one can be found here

This is a place for feminist pom pom waving and talking about stuff which might not need a thread for itself.

Fill your boots.

I didn't see the thread either briar, but I think they mean avoiding explaining too much to a suspicious OP why their posting style doesn't seem authentic

BriarRainbowshimmer · 06/09/2014 09:58

Yes I agree with that.

FloraFox · 06/09/2014 10:00

Yes petula that's what I meant, it's more about not explaining to the other posters why he didn't sound right and what was wrong with his narrative. No-one was telling him how to sound more authentic but he was getting quite a lot of support. And of course a bunch of menz came on at the end. The phrase "spot on sir" is particularly irksome.

CaptChaos · 06/09/2014 10:00

Petula I think that's exactly it. It's certainly been my experience in the MMORPGs I've played. Years ago, you needed to be in a guild/clan in order to accomplish 'end game' content, you also needed to be really skilled playing your class, toons had far fewer hit points, bosses were significantly harder etc, even low end instances needed you to have skill and to be able to communicate well. Now, it has become easier to do end game content with random groups, who can vote to boot you off the group, and guilds/clans are all but dead. Instead of being a fun way of spending time with other people, it's now become much more goal oriented, plus the goals are more easily obtained, which tends to attract the less able to think coherently end of the market.

FloraFox the same men were supporting him as are telling silly wimmins that there is no misogyny in gaming and that we're all just crap and shit.

UGH.

Thank goodness for meeting wonderful women in a bit. Grin

"spot on sir"
Not something I wish to hear on MN.

PetulaGordino · 06/09/2014 10:13

Ah capt that makes sense. The gaming thread and its newcomers followed by that thread

StormyBrid · 06/09/2014 10:34

Hmm. Thinking about the gaming/internet thing is reminding me of The Science of Discworld II, with its basic premise that it's interaction with other minds that makes us human. The easier it gets to play solo, the less interaction with other people is required to play high end content, the more idiotic and obnoxious the players get.

I still have fond memories of gaming when at school. There was no broadband, and few of us even had dialup, so we were all playing our own individual games. Every morning in the playground it would be progress report and see if anyone had made any headway (a fairly infrequent event, Monkey Island being quite a challenge when you're ten). Ah, nostalgia...

Zazzles007 · 06/09/2014 10:38

I saw a really good name for these MRA gamers types - misogynerd!!! Loved it!

CaptChaos · 06/09/2014 10:38

I can remember doing similar at college with Paperboy in the spectrum.

Yep me too Briar . Just reminds me of elite, privileged public schoolboys.

FuckOffWeasel · 06/09/2014 11:31

Really jealous, I can't come out today and can't have any cookies. My oven is broken so I can't even make my own. Dh had an op on Thursday, so on an air mattress in the front room, ds (6 months today) has 4 teeth coming in and vaccines yesterday so I haven't slept for days. My toddlers are running feral and naked through the garden and house. I couldn't face it all in front of actual people today.

PetulaGordino · 06/09/2014 11:55

That's a shitload on your plate weasel. How long is your dH's recovery likely to be?

FuckOffWeasel · 06/09/2014 12:18

Well he is supposed to be off for 2 weeks (although he isn't eligible for sick pay just statutory? so probably won't take that long off) and a total of 6 weeks with no lifting or straining. Hopefully be back in my bed after 2 weeks though! Hopefully ds will be back in his cot by then too. My dd got all her teeth in 6 months and I'm thinking this guy is planning on the same. Ds1 was 2 before he had a full set!

FuckOffWeasel · 06/09/2014 12:19

Sorry for whinging in the pub. I'll just start some day drinking to improve the rest of the day. Grin

TerrariaMum · 06/09/2014 12:38

Delurks to ask for ginger beer and to ask StormyBrid if she fights like a dairy farmer Grin.

Also, I have just done my first primary school applications for DD1. I have many feelings about it, but I am not sure what they are yet.

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/09/2014 12:56

Petula mid autumn festival involves eating mooncakes and lighting lanterns. All festivals involve eating. Grin

Report on meet-up.

Terraria We are doing secondary school application this year. We even know which ones to put down. But cannot get myself in the mood to fill in forms. Plus there's plenty of time ... Strangely enough all I can think of is that there will be a new set of institutional unreasonableness to deal with... Not pessimistic, me ...

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/09/2014 12:57

Weasel Whinge all you like if it helps. If you can't do that in a pub where can you? Sounds like a lot on your plate.

TerrariaMum · 06/09/2014 13:00

Oh dear, Uptoapoint, that makes me nervous.

The mooncakes sound nice though they are an acquired taste I think. Or they were for me anyway.

PetulaGordino · 06/09/2014 13:45

What are mooncakes like? Are they shaped like little bottoms?

PetulaGordino · 06/09/2014 13:46

Sorry, that's probably hideously culturally offensive

PetulaGordino · 06/09/2014 13:47

I have googled - they are so pretty!

Do you make your own Lordcopper?

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 06/09/2014 13:51

Very pretty. But red bean paste. is that the same as the red bean paste the Japanese use? Definitely an acquired taste if so.Smile

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/09/2014 14:15

Don't know how to make mooncake! Buy them. Hideously expensive, but they are so sweet you can't really eat much ... Different varieties too. I like the lotus bean paste with salted egg yolks ones. Diabetes +heart attack in a pretty package. Chinese cuisine likes to confuse the boundary between sweet and savoury.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 06/09/2014 22:14

Thanks for answering that Lord Copper, I've always wondered about moon cakes! One if ny favourite stories when I was little was about a little girl who gets lost at the moon festival.

My teaching ny children their heritage stuff mainly involves story books, cake and trying to get then to remember where my home country is on a map! It's a work in progress Wink
