The old pub now has less than 10 posts to go, so I thought I'd start a new one. The old one can be found here

This is a place for feminist pom pom waving and talking about stuff which might not need a thread for itself.

Fill your boots.

Watching Egypt's Lost Queens with DS1 on iplayer, in a bid to start his history education with something other than Dead Men.

Zazzles007 · 07/09/2014 00:26

Good on ya' Winifred. Women are never celebrated in the media in the same way that men are. It irks me to no end.

BertieBotts · 07/09/2014 10:14

Ha, when I was at uni studying sociology there was a book in the campus book shop called "Dead White Men and other important people". I still haven't read it.

AnnieLobeseder · 07/09/2014 16:14

Good news for those of you who, like me, are a man on Facebook to avoid being targeted by nasty sexist adverts. Facebook has finally rolled out the option to be various interesting gender options other than the male/female binary to the UK. I am now officially gender neutral!

FuckOffWeasel · 07/09/2014 16:21

Oh and look it has Cis-female as an option. DOes that mean I like pretty frocks and cupcakes? I love cupcakes, frocks not so much

FuckOffWeasel · 07/09/2014 16:24

And you still have to pick a gender. Why can't it be blank with "them" as a pronoun Hmm

Anyone who actually knows me and the three children I gave birth knows I am a woman, I just want to avoid being sold bullshit based on my vagina

AnnieLobeseder · 07/09/2014 16:37

I picked "gender neutral" with "them" as pronoun. And yes, also to avoid being told about how many pounds Jennifer Lawrence lost on the new fab diet, based on the fact that my ownership of a vagina must mean I am on a diet.

FuckOffWeasel · 07/09/2014 16:49

I'm actually quite excited to see what shit gets sold to the gender neutral

BertieBotts · 07/09/2014 16:51

I keep seeing the advert "facetune". An app which allows you to make your photos look thinner (in the FACE), whiter and less freckly. Because we all want that Hmm

AnnieLobeseder · 07/09/2014 16:59

Oh lord above, Bertie, that's awful. I'm pleased I've never seen that.

As a man, I got ads for building up my manly muscles. And also for discreet catheters. Do a lot of men need those? Confused

Like FOWeasel, it will be interesting to see what I get now!

BecauseIsaidS0 · 07/09/2014 17:06

I removed most information off my Facebook profile once I realized that "female", "single" and my age were responsible for all those "35 and still single? Join Online Dating NOW!" ads Hmm

BertieBotts · 07/09/2014 17:26

The worst part is when I posted about it the first response was "Ooh is this really bad, I think that sounds good! I could do with editing out some wrinkles and making myself look thinner!" Head. Desk.

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/09/2014 17:48

I seem to just get adverts about whatever I was trying to buy. Now I get adverts for colanders. Hmm But I've already bought one from Ikea. Confused

this is a really interesting analysis of online comments on the NYT website

scallopsrgreat · 07/09/2014 18:57

Bunch of MRAs they are FuckoffWeasl. All the politicak power and status is still with men in that culture. The only reason they have a matrilineal system it appears, is to even things out .

CaptChaos · 07/09/2014 19:02

Wow, the blackface thread goes from strength to patronising strength, doesn't it!

Loved the article FOW Grin

scallopsrgreat · 07/09/2014 19:20

Yes sorry I did mean to say I liked it Smile. I was just rolling my eyes at "Matriliny breeds a culture of men who feel useless." Yeah right!

scallopsrgreat · 07/09/2014 19:26

And I liked your article Petula. Some really interesting stats. Although what I think we need more than women speaking up is for men to shut up and believe us!

PetulaGordino · 07/09/2014 19:35

yes i think there could have been more development about why women aren't commenting so much (it mentioned increased likelihood of harassment)

it also highlights what a rare gem somewhere like mumsnet is

scallopsrgreat · 07/09/2014 19:46

Absolutely. It's an amazing network. Even if we do get frustrated and angry about it sometimes.

FloraFox · 07/09/2014 22:48

I agree Petula and scallops, MN is a rare gem.

AnnieLobeseder · 08/09/2014 11:24

Aaaaaaand now they've changed my submission date back again. Gah! Bureaucracy makes my head hurt!
