Right, thought I'd better start a new pub. I warn you, my knowledge of Roman numerals conks out shortly after this one, so either buffy will have to start the next thread, or we'll have to go Arabic.

Everyone is welcome in - if you want to chat, or just jump in with a question/link/gin, please do. Smile Especially if it's too small for a thread or you don't feel up to thread-starting.

The old thread has, at my count, about 9 posts to go, and it was here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/2126791-Feminist-Pub-VIII-not-as-prolific-as-the-Swaggerers-but-there-are-cushions-and-consciousness?

We were just chatting about feministy light reading, and will doubtless meander onto other topics shortly. Smile

This has nothing to do with feminism, but I have to tell someone or I'll burst.

DS2, the one who was never going to get any exams, the one we shouldn't expect too much from has passed all the GCSEs he took. An A* in ICT and 6 C's.

We are immensely proud of him. I've been alternating between giggling a lot and crying.

As you were.

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/08/2014 09:06

Well done Capt's DS2! Did people actually say not to expect too much!? Shock I still remember being told not to bother to apply to certain places because I wasn't good enough... Angry

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 21/08/2014 09:07

That is great Capt. Does he know what he wants to do next year?

PetulaGordino · 21/08/2014 09:08

that is just fantastic capn! you must be thrilled. not to take any of the achievement away from him, but i'm sure it is also down to a monumental amount of time and energy on your part too

CaptChaos · 21/08/2014 09:10

Yes, we were told when he was in primary that, because of his disabilities, he probably wouldn't get very far and to lower our expectations.... that headteacher is getting a copy of his exam certs with something appropriate written across it...

He's going to do a level 3 Btec in music and then he's planning to do music at uni.

He's utterly amazing, he worked so hard and he deserves all the praise in the world.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 21/08/2014 09:14

Aww Capt, that is so awesome!!! You must be so proud! Tell him that the feminist ladies of MN are very impressed Grin

trevortrevorslattery · 21/08/2014 09:21

Brilliant capt well done to your DS!

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/08/2014 09:25

"Eat my certs!" in a Bart Simpson's voice. Grin

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 21/08/2014 09:25

Awesome. The music students I knew had an amazing time at uni.Smile Well done ChaosSon.

Huge well done to Chaosboy. And good luck to Trevor's lad as well. Tell him to get on his Bike and go and get his results!

I like those shoes as well, Chaos :)

I've always said that about that fecking Churchill quote. Truly a face that only a mother could love, that one, and yet somehow we get never get articles or programmes about how he struggled with his appearance.

Reminds me of the Julie Burchill article I once read about how much-divorced women are referred to as "tragic" or "troubled" because of it, whereas men who lead similar lives (Frank Sinatra, say, or Clark Gable) are always assumed to be "bad boys" who had a high old time throughout.

vezzie · 21/08/2014 11:58

Captain, massive congratulations to your DS AND TO YOU! for nurturing him and believing in him.
I am genuinely so happy to hear this news. well done

Dragonlette · 21/08/2014 13:01

Well done ChaosBoy!! He's done very well, I assume that's through hard work from both of you.

CaptChaos · 21/08/2014 15:15

Thanks everyone.

And ya boo sucks to everyone who says that FWR is a horrible place to be!

DoctorTwo · 21/08/2014 15:18

I'll add my congratulations to others CaptC.

That WC quote is particularly vile, and shows the true character of the man.

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/08/2014 15:18

Petula I have knitted 3 whole rows of indeterminate brown stuff! What fun!

PetulaGordino · 21/08/2014 15:22

oh marvellous! you will have a scarf for a teddy before you know it!

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/08/2014 15:38

Hah! I suspect even teddy may have more discerning taste than that. Grin But I can see my way to it.

PetulaGordino · 21/08/2014 15:44

a mner made me genuinely laugh out loud on here the other day - she had just learnt to crochet and was delighted with herself and said "if anyone needs bath mats for doll's houses, i'm your woman"

PetulaGordino · 21/08/2014 15:45

have just discovered i have blagged myself a job interview for a job i'm totally unqualified for in a couple of weeks' time

AnnieLobeseder · 21/08/2014 15:50

Oooh, very exciting Petula!! I'm sure you're aware that men always go for jobs that they are supremely unqualified for, and get them too. So continue with your awesome blaggery and you'll ace the interview, I'm sure.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 21/08/2014 16:00

I got a few of my jobs, and to the final round of interviews at the big G, by blagging it. Basically, if I thought I was not qualified and didn't really believe I could get it, then I relaxed and did really well in the interview because I wasn't feeling pressured.

Having said that, I just sent my resume to a startup who are looking for a CTO and they haven't even acknowledged it! Bloody millennials.

trevortrevorslattery · 21/08/2014 16:49

Thanks elephants - he passed them all- fill the bar!
Good luck Petula!
