Right, thought I'd better start a new pub. I warn you, my knowledge of Roman numerals conks out shortly after this one, so either buffy will have to start the next thread, or we'll have to go Arabic.

Everyone is welcome in - if you want to chat, or just jump in with a question/link/gin, please do. Smile Especially if it's too small for a thread or you don't feel up to thread-starting.

The old thread has, at my count, about 9 posts to go, and it was here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/2126791-Feminist-Pub-VIII-not-as-prolific-as-the-Swaggerers-but-there-are-cushions-and-consciousness?

We were just chatting about feministy light reading, and will doubtless meander onto other topics shortly. Smile

Can we talk as well? I'm quite garrulous, being made to be silent for any length of time would make me start to climb the walls.

The periods of solitude would be nice though.

I want a Carthusian priory. Though, the English Carthusians were apparently Very Bad Carthusians. The London house got a big ticking-off from their inspectors from the head house in France, because they used to invite women in (not just women, but it was the women that shocked the inspectors) to hear Mass with them.

After the complaint, instead of saying 'argh, we messed up, how awful of us!' they redesigned their chapel so that the women had their own special altar to pray at, which was separated from the main bit with a wall, but still right by the supposedly segregated monks.

I love the Carthusians.

And they copied Margery Kempe's book, which makes them awesome.

I have definitely missed something about what is going on with you, JustTheRight, but I am sending you all my good thoughts anyway. Thanks

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/08/2014 16:18

Sorry, I think I have missed something too, but good luck, just.

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through that - but you brilliant woman for doing it.

Can we not have a more Benedictine style one? I love the Benedictine way of life, at one point I was seriously considering becoming a Benedictine nun.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/08/2014 16:27

I never seriously considered becoming a nun, but I have thought about it. My cousin was, and she was so lovely. I think I'd struggle, though - I know some orders are brilliantly feministy but you'd constantly be reminded of how misogynistic established Christianity can be (IMO).

That sounds horribly difficult, just.

I would really hope people will see that you would of course forget. Personally, I know I would find someone saying they'd forgotten or blanked out a memory entirely plausible!

Anyway, I won't keep on because you don't want to think about it.

Cooking good lasagne sounds like an excellent skill for community living. Grin

Just - As someone who used to do civil litigation (ok, a bit different, and no jury), what makes someone look unreliable is if they try and bluff that they do remember when they don't. Saying you don't recall the details is fine.

WhatWitchcraftIsThis · 20/08/2014 17:36

Sorry to barge in, but is this weird?

www.startriteshoes.com/girls-shoes/angry-angels

Angry Angels is the "edgy" for girl's take from Start right.

Also if you go on to the startright page I linked to first you can't see that they actually have a shoe called "minx" Hmm

But on the www.angryangels.co.uk/our-shoes page you can see it.

Minx. "Angry angels".

According to Google...

WhatWitchcraftIsThis · 20/08/2014 17:37

BTW, the male alternative to angry angels is Rhino Confused

CaptChaos · 20/08/2014 17:47

I am a crap feminist, because I want to chop half my feet off and get the black impulsive with red laces from that site.

I don't even 'do' shoes!

WhatWitchcraftIsThis · 20/08/2014 18:00

I'll admit they are quite snazzy. Grin

kickassangel · 20/08/2014 20:01

Just, what you are doing is incredibly important. It doesn't really matter whether there is a conviction or not, you are giving agency to women and girls by going through with this. It must be incredibly hard. My thoughts are with you.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 20/08/2014 20:43

Just, I take my hat off to you and if you take hugs from virtual strangers! I'd give you one too because as kickass says! what you are doing is of uttermost importance.

You are amazing JustTheRightBullets. So many don't report their rape, I know I didn't. Whatever happens, we are here and we believe you. You are, like me and many others, a survivor, not a victim. You are far braver than I. Respeck

Checking you've not got skinning equipment ready and waiting, and a book of cat pie recipes in the kitchen?

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/08/2014 08:29

I've heard that if you must eat cat food you should eat it cold and not heat it up. That's the sum total of my knowledge related to cats. Wink
