Right, thought I'd better start a new pub. I warn you, my knowledge of Roman numerals conks out shortly after this one, so either buffy will have to start the next thread, or we'll have to go Arabic.

Everyone is welcome in - if you want to chat, or just jump in with a question/link/gin, please do. Smile Especially if it's too small for a thread or you don't feel up to thread-starting.

The old thread has, at my count, about 9 posts to go, and it was here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/2126791-Feminist-Pub-VIII-not-as-prolific-as-the-Swaggerers-but-there-are-cushions-and-consciousness?

We were just chatting about feministy light reading, and will doubtless meander onto other topics shortly. Smile

I don't think it's as bad as you do. Maybe if you had it 'fixed' by the point of that picture, you see the first, rubbish, version in there. And we see it at more face value. I like your new one better though Smile.

Maybe it is something more straightforward in your case then Annie. You just really want your DH to love the things that you love, and it's disappointing when you find he actively dislikes them. A bit like if you gave your favourite ever book to someone to read and they found it a bit 'meh'.

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/08/2014 22:30

" A bit like if you gave your favourite ever book to someone to read and they found it a bit 'meh'."

Happens to me all the time ...

Dragon It's just that I don't actually know how to knit and am keeping my expectations realistic. Earthworms seem achievable...

AnnieLobeseder · 18/08/2014 22:30

I think it's also cos the picture is a close-up. Move back from the screen a bit..... it becomes a blue blob of awfulness!

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 18/08/2014 22:32

Yeah, good point about zooming out.

CaptChaos · 18/08/2014 22:39

It is a bit crap Annie, but not as crap as the whistling worm on my shoulder... yeah, don't ask.

I have a friend who is drawing up a beautiful scene for me, which I am hoping to have put on my back sometime soon. I love tattoos, they often have amazing stories and meaning for people.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/08/2014 22:42

I don't really understand the addition in the finished tattoo (versus original illustration) of the pulsating boil lovely sunset behind the bird?

AnnieLobeseder · 18/08/2014 22:45

Whistling worm?!

Elephants, the sun was added by the artist trying to fix it, just to break up the blue blob and add some perspective. As hard as it may be to believe, it did actually improve the overall look! I wish I had a proper "before" pic.

Guess what colour hurts the most to have lasered off?

CaptChaos · 18/08/2014 22:51

Yeah, I was young and stupid and drunk

It seemed like a hilarious joke at the time.

Ahem.

Anyway, I shall need hand holding as I start to get closer to the weekend. I have a command performance at my DBro's birthday. The Vile Sil will of course be there, along with my mother. DH has managed to get out of it by saying that he's working pig but I have to go or DBro will be terribly hurt.

A whole day of being told how stupid I am and how I've wasted my life by people I have absolutely no respect or time for. Lovely! Sad

AnnieLobeseder · 18/08/2014 22:59

Command performance? Do you mean putting on a Brave Face and managing not to murder vile SIL (I have one of those too so synpathise)? Or an actual stand-up-on-stage-type performance?

Why does DBro being "all hurt" matter more than you being genuinely hurt?

I'm sorry your family are cruel to you. I generally find that cruel people are just acting out because they have no love for themselves. But that doesn't make it any easier to bear their abuse.

CaptChaos · 18/08/2014 23:06

It's the last time I'll have to do it, we're moving 6 hours away from them all, but yes, DBro's feelings are more important than mine, he's the golden child. It's a shame, he's lovely, but seeing him means seeing vile SiL. Anyway, brave face and smile painted on, nod and smile, come home and cuddle the dogs and bitch about them on here Grin

scallopsrgreat · 19/08/2014 00:14

Thank you for all your best wishes. I submitted the job application with a whole 10 minutes to spare. That's better than when I used to do online submissions for the OU where I literally had seconds to spare!

I'm never going to get this job am I? I procrastinate far too much Grin. It's all too late now!

scallopsrgreat · 19/08/2014 00:16

What colour hurts the most Annie?

kickassangel · 19/08/2014 00:54

.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 19/08/2014 04:46

They all hurt like shit Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 19/08/2014 08:21

Capt What are you performing? No need to wait till it's over to bitch about discuss events. Do it on the fly! That's the purpose of technology. Grin

CaptChaos · 19/08/2014 08:33

I think I probably will. Vile SiL has a great line in then make some completely outrageous statement about how crap I am. If she comes out with any real stonkers, I'll put them on here for your amusement and edification!

AnnieLobeseder · 19/08/2014 08:52

scallopsrgreat and BecauseIsaidS0 - well, yes, they all hurt like a buggery (never experienced anything like it), but blue is the hardest to get off and requires the most sessions of lasering. And since I had palm-tree-bird touched up, it was two fucking layers of blue.

You can infer from the suffering I endured how much I wanted that fucker gone. Angry

I am quite excited about the prospect of a real-time CaptChaos support group and Vile SIL mocking session.

Would you like to share something with the group, kickassangel? Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/08/2014 10:03

Excuse me interrupting the tattoo discussion, but I have something so perfect, I must share. Grin

So, there's some bloke on twitter ticking off, er, Sarah Ditum and Caroline Criado Perez about not being good enough feminists.

So, he says defensively 'Actually I took about 30 hours of women's studies courses as it was one of my disciplines.'

Grin

Is it not utter, utter genius? It is my new favourite thing. 30 whole hours. Imagine! They must've been well intimidated by his learning.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/08/2014 10:06

Oh, and scallops, well done submitting ... ten minutes is ages. Honest. Grin

(I'm always right up to the line too.)

OP posts:
CaptChaos · 19/08/2014 10:09

That is beautiful LRD! Although you do wonder about how little a man thinks of women if he honestly believes that 30 hours of study makes him more of an expert than actual women actual feminists, don't you?

AnnieLobeseder · 19/08/2014 10:27

Ah, but CaptChaos, a man's penis actually has magical powers that mean that whatever knowledge enters their brain is 1000000x more relevant and powerful and clever and witty and right, even if they only studied it for 10 mins, than anything that may have taken a whole lifetime of dedicated study to enter our woman brains. And then the magic power of our vaginas is to suck most of what we learn right out again. And put pink glitter on whatever feeble knowledge remains.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/08/2014 10:32

Isn't it just perfect?!

I wonder who taught those 30 hours.

taken outside the context of tattoos, and therefore being rather surreal and disconnected, the question "which colour hurts the most?" is quite fascinating
