Just setting this up while we finish off the last few posts on the old thread. Come in and pull up a bar stool!

Ooo, a book group would be ace. The LFN have a rl one which I just can't go to cos of the childers. What would be our reading list? I think we'd have to do a truly cyber version and include websites etc.

I just read the Steve Biddulph webchat. He was hilarious, it's like a lesson in how to come across like an entitled mansplainer. And so annoying, "You may disagree with me about testosterone" (well, thanks) but no acknowledgement that asserting something like this as fact is not about us all having different perspectives. And mentioning Cordelia Fine in the same breath as arguing girls are hardwired for relationships and social skills. I really love that he had to go and lie down just to cope with it all.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2014 14:24

I so enjoyed that webchat. Grin

Where do you find old webchats?

OP posts:
OutsSelf · 04/06/2014 14:27

I searched Steve Biddulph (because I needed some ammo for a convo I'm having tonight - with really great women, who've nevertheless ingested the Biddiot's testosterone hypothesis).

OutsSelf · 04/06/2014 14:28

You got deleted! I was Shock

Possibly because it looked like you were accusing MN and not Bidhead of patronising.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2014 14:45

I'd forgotten so much about that webchat. It is irritating there was that woman posting who'd obviously got very confused in the middle of it.

OP posts:
calmet · 04/06/2014 14:47

I am really surprised that TERF thread hasn't been deleted. I always thought MNHQ deleted anything critical of transgender identity. Although I am glad they haven't.

ReallyFuckingFedUp · 04/06/2014 14:59

Do they? I've seen some trans threads get heated but they were usually on chat and bigot and other names start getting thrown around so I assumed it was more to do with that than anythin else.

OutsSelf · 04/06/2014 15:35

That confused woman was hilarious! MUMSNET SOMEONE IS POSTING IN MY NAME HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!! And also, 'Sh, quiet everyone, there's a man here, don't be so challenging!'

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2014 15:36

It was very odd!

Poor woman, if she's become a regular she must be cringing.

ReallyFuckingFedUp · 04/06/2014 16:19

Is this what you guys are talking about, fro 2000!?

www.mumsnet.com/onlinechats/steve-biddulph

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2014 16:26

No!

In 2000, I was yet to sit my GCSE exams and was not a member of MN.

It comes up if you put 'Biddulph' and 'webchat' into the search function, and it's from a year or two ago.

OP posts:
ReallyFuckingFedUp · 04/06/2014 17:02

Ah Ok, I forget how long MN has been around... I wonder if any of those posters asking about their toddlers are still on, now they are finishing school!?

AnnieLobeseder · 04/06/2014 17:11

she is pretty much useless to me because our realities conflict so much, and she is so so solid in the "la la lala la la la can't hear you" that keeps her so much in her own she can't even really hear me.

This. Absolutely. Thank you allhailqueenmab, it's good to know I'm not alone in this.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 04/06/2014 17:19

You had yet to sit your GCSEs LRD. Wow, you are young. I was graduating! Not on MN at that point either though.

AskBasil · 04/06/2014 17:22

LOL.

Anyone who didn't do O Levels sounds young to me.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 04/06/2014 17:26

I feel about 90 today. Darn good job babies are cute!

DoctorTwo · 04/06/2014 17:29

'Sh, quiet everyone, there's a man here, don't be so challenging!' :o I love that.

I loved reading SGM's posts, they made you think. And realise just how often I was wrong.

Dragonlette · 04/06/2014 18:00

Wow LRD I didn't realise you were so young! I already had dd1 in 2000, and that was the year I started my degree. It feels like forever ago.

I need a stiff drink tonight. I had 3 separate incidents today that reminded me that some teenagers have so much crap going on in their home lives that it's a miracle they're at school at all, let alone with the correct equipment and completed homework Sad Sad I can't even vent about the unfairness of it all because it's all tied up in child protection and therefore confidential.

CaptChaos · 04/06/2014 18:14

Had to give up on the webchat when he stated that girls are 'wired' to be more social. The screams of 'Bullshit!' would just serve to disturb my neighbours.

AskBasil Me too. I also (to my shame) see GCSE's as the 'easy' option, having had to do them as mocks for my O levels.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2014 19:53

I am exceptionally young. Someone kindly pointed it out to me on a thread about SPAG the other day, and generously suggested they'd be understanding of my immaturity. So I am feeling my youth. Smile

Sorry to hear you're in stiff drink territory, though, dragon. Sad

OP posts:
Dragonlette · 04/06/2014 20:19

It's utterly crap. I feel so incredibly powerless to keep those kids safe. I can help keep them safe in school hours and I've reported everything I know to our child protection team, but I can't do anything real to get them out of the horrible situations they're in at home :( :(

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 04/06/2014 20:54
Dragonlette · 04/06/2014 21:06

Oh, I don't have O levels either. I have GCSEs. I did mine in 1995, I think we were the first year to have A*s. My brother was most annoyed that I got higher grades than him, purely down to the powers that be creating higher grades, rather than him not getting the highest grade I am brighter than him anyway, so would obviously have got higher grades regardless

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/06/2014 22:05

Shock at how young LRD is! >

Biddulph. Hah. Raising Boys is bollocks. Had to take it to the charity shop. But really should have shredded it. Now it's floating around somewhere giving someone else the rage. To whoever has my copy, i am very sorry.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/06/2014 22:07

Thanks. Hmm

Grin

I guess you can tell from the title, really. I tell you what pissed me off about that webchat is, I remember now I'd read bits of his book in extracts in the paper, and he assumed only the person who agreed with him had read it. Cos obviously, if we'd read a line or two we'd instantly have seen his genius .... Hmm
