We're not advocating complete prohibition as per some parts of the USA, though, are we?

I agree with decriminalising the sellers of sex, and the criminalising of you pimps and punters.

Street prostitution is illegal and the police facilitate a "book" which is used by prostitutes to warn each other about scary punters, by leaving a description in it.

The pretence that people who want punters criminalised are actually rubbing their hands gleefully at the idea of women being beaten, raped and murdered is utterly preposterous. And again I would point out that it is not feminists who beat, rape and murder prostitutes.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 18/04/2014 18:53

@NiceTabard, for the millionth time, sexworkers are not "bought". Their time and services are bought.

What is bought is the woman's consent to sex they otherwise wouldn't want. What on earth kind of a fucked up human being would want to buy that?

sotegsoteg · 18/04/2014 18:53

"Squeamish" about the idea clients pay money for sex or about the idea hetero men may sell sexual services to men? I don't know where you got that from.

NiceTabard · 18/04/2014 18:53

Making prostitution illegal is not being suggested anywhere, not sure where that's come from Confused

NiceTabard · 18/04/2014 18:55

Read the thread then and also some of your own posts Hmm

I find it weird that someone who is willing to pay cash to get someone who doesn't want to fuck them, to let them fuck them, feels the need to be euphemistic about it in an anonymous internet conversation Confused

sotegsoteg · 18/04/2014 19:00

"well they received payment means they must want sex".

I don't agree with this but it is the attitude taken by some including US judges.

I remember a news article from Texas less than a year ago about a man who murdered a sexworker. In Texas if someone steals from you you have a right to take it back using deadly force. The man paid the sexworker who refused to have sex with him. So her killed her. And the judge declared that since the sexworker didn't have sex with him she "stole" his money and he had the right to use deadly force to take it back.

Really, really fucked up.

"Making prostitution illegal is not being suggested anywhere,"

N. Ireland and France are currently in the process of trying to pass the nordic model.

There are no current attempts to implement the nordic model in Scotland or England at this moment but I expect more will come (Scotland has had like 5 attempts in the past 5-10 years including a sneaky attempt to attach it onto the end of an unrelated bill in the hope noone would notice).

BriarRainbowshimmer · 18/04/2014 19:03

I also want to point out that Amnesty have form for this kind of thing. They used to argue that FGM was a cultural practice that should be respected.

God fucking damnit Amnesty.

Anyway, I will simply report visitors with an agenda. No fun in seeing the same old misogynist arguments over and over again.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 18/04/2014 19:04

The nordic model decriminalises the sellers of sex, sote.

sotegsoteg · 18/04/2014 19:07

There was also an attempt to "fast track" the nordic model in Scotland by MSP Rhoda Grant and bypass the consultation stage (which would have denied the public including sexworkers to have their say).

Fortunately parliament didn't let her fasttrack it and the bill went to public consultation (where it received support from just 3 sexworkers and opposition from over 60 sexworkers).

sotegsoteg · 18/04/2014 19:09

"The nordic model decriminalises the sellers of sex, sote."

The sellers of sex are still criminalized if they work together. And they risk losing their home (even if they own it), losing custody of their kids and deportation if they aren't in the country legally.

IMO big deterrents for sexworkers under the nordic model to ever contact the police.

Grennie · 18/04/2014 19:12

If people are illegal migrants, they will be deported under decriminalisation.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 18/04/2014 19:14

Really, really fucked up.

I agree.

Again, who was it that murdered her? Was it the punter. Punters are fucked up - they see women as orifices to buy, not human beings.

sotegsoteg · 18/04/2014 19:16

A punter who is also a murderer who should have been charged with murder and thrown in prison, yes.

"If people are illegal migrants, they will be deported under decriminalisation."

The UK isn't as quick to deport illegal immigrants as Sweden is. I wonder why that could be. Maybe Sweden sees sexworkers as "undesirables" (just like disabled, foreigners and trans-genders) and is happy to use any opportunity to "be rid" of them?

After all doesn't Sweden like to keep its race "pure"??

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 18/04/2014 19:21

Are you for real, sote?

You're sounding quite deranged now - you're actually spluttering aren't you?

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 18/04/2014 19:22

Are we back to Sweden being a dictatorship then? Grin

NiceTabard · 18/04/2014 19:23

"disabled, foreigners and trans-genders"

LOL you are david brent and I claim my £5 Grin

Clue: Adding "person" or "people" onto some on those words might result an improved reaction from others. Although their absence is telling.

What about Sweden's stance on "the gays"?

We should be told.

NiceTabard · 18/04/2014 19:26

I have been getting a lot of deja vu lately whenthered.

is most perplexing.
