Worth £16 billion in Germany. Legal to "make it safer".

Interview with 22 yr old Hannah. 6 men per night, earns 100 to 1000 euros per night,

Talking about should it be illegal in the UK and the fact that brothels are safer than the streets. They have super brothels in Germany.

It's weird how the punters are always "oh, it's so much safer for the sex workers blah blah" and never "I like to pay to fuck women and I'd rather not be a criminal" which at least is a position with some internal logic.
What Lurcio wrote earlier and then only a few hours later we get one coming to this very thread, pretending to care about women.

pfft look at him acting like a victim, perhaps he shouldn't come here and go on about punting on a parenting forum and bump old threads with troll posts if he doesn't want to get banned.

CaptChaos · 11/03/2014 14:54

So..... despite the fact that the overwhelming amount of violence towards prostituted women is perpetrated by punters, you think that allowing punters more access to them is the way to stop them being harmed? Logic not your strong suit then.

Heard of Tania Nicol? Gemma Adams? Anneli Alderton? Annette Nicholls? Paula Clennell? Were they killed by feminists? Or by a man who paid them for sex?

There have been several threads on here where prostituted women have come and told us how they feel, a couple of them are the 'happy hooker' type, but one was a woman who is being pimped by a 'friend'. Not once did they get attacked by any of the feminists who post here.

I get that you want to be able to pay to fuck women who don't want to fuck you. I get that you have no respect for women at all. I even get that you don't see women as equally human to men, however, I do respect women, I value them, I see them as human beings, that being the case, we're never going to agree.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 11/03/2014 15:01

Prostitutes don't have their kids taken away because they are prostitutes - but because a lifestyle in prostitution is often an unsuitable upbringing for children. Not always, not essentially, but often.

Men coming and going many times a day - and we're not talking normal men, but punters and (often violent) pimps. Often violent punters, come to that. Drug use, alcohol abuse, violent abuse are rife in prostitution. Like the prostitute who turned up to a drop in centre with 2 broken arms.

Which is why such an essential part of the Swedish model is assistance to leave prostitution.

Sorry that comment was by GarthsUncle.

Was just thinking "wish I had said that". Good quote.

Sabrina re Womens Hour - I thought it was excessively one sided. Really glad they have done it like that, I can't imagine what would happen if you got these two opposing groups together in a room.

It's the only way to get to the heart of the matter. This really is an issue like no other. I can't put my finger on why, but there is absolutely no comparable argument, it can't be debated with numbers and science, it can't be discussed on moral grounds and legally it touches on different issues. Nailing jelly to the wall is a good expression.

I like the fact that the Swedes boiled it nicely down to being about equality. All things flow from there.

steven1011 · 13/03/2014 06:38

Ruth Jacobos, herself a former working girl opposes criminalising clients on the grounds of safety, www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/ruth-jacobs/prostitution-laws_b_4851224.html. Also there is the Alex Bryce article referenced by another commentor.

steven1011 · 13/03/2014 06:41

I meant Ruth Jacobs

steven1011 · 13/03/2014 06:47

I wonder how many people engaged in the swinging scene (where payment is not entailed) have suffered abusive childhoods or other trauma. I don't know the answer, but if research reveals that significant numbers of swingers have been abused in the past shouldn't swinging be banned (if we apply the same arguments advanced by those wishing to make it an offence to pay for sex).

GarthsUncle · 13/03/2014 06:55

Oh, there's another one, how delightful.

Do you pay to fuck women who don't want to fuck you, Steven?

steven1011 · 13/03/2014 07:02

GarthsUncle I notice that you haven't attempted to engaged with the points raised in my posts (particularly the article by a former working girl and drug addict Ruth Jacobs).
I have only ever had consensual sex, how about you?

FloraFox · 13/03/2014 07:10

I'm going to take that as a yes.

Your points are stupid and unoriginal. Like engaging with blancmange.

GarthsUncle · 13/03/2014 07:12

I've never paid to fuck anyone, Steven, how about you?

I read your link. Interesting how it claims that the Swedish have no idea about the reduction in prostitution when other links, posted by punters no less, talk about a one-third reduction in street prostitution.

The danger to prostitutes comes from the punters. There's no impersonal danger like gravity or fire from which they need to be kept safe.

steven1011 · 13/03/2014 07:29

FloraFox "Your points are stupid and unoriginal", why so?

GarthsUncle · 13/03/2014 07:31

Have you read the full thread, Steven?

Have you read the Amnesty thread?

FloraFox · 13/03/2014 07:40

The comparison of swingers (who want to have sex with their partners) with prostitutes (who don't) is a point only a punter could make.

steven1011 · 13/03/2014 07:40

GarthsUncle - Well at least you are prepared to listen to opposing views. The main point of the article and one made by other opponents of the Nordic model is that prostitutes are less safe as clients are more nervous and street based prostitutes have less choice of clientele due to the "nicer" punters either being frightened away or, more likely taking their business to indoor sex establishments which official Swedish police reports admit have increased in number (I can supply links if you like).
OK, I have paid for sex, always with those aged 18 or over and it has always been consensual. It has, almost always been with escorts in my own home as I don't like flats and, I personally wouldn't want to live next door to a place offering sexual services because of the nuisance effect, cars coming and going at all hours etc.
Escorts cause no nuisance as the activity is taking place in a hotel room or private residence.
We need to tackle societal factors which encourage prostitution, for example I recently saw a 19-year-old student who was in financial difficulties because she couldn't get a loan. I enjoyed the encounter but the lady was nervous, it being her first time and spent quite a bit of time petting my retriever which did, I am sure help her to feel better as she does, herself have a dog.

GarthsUncle · 13/03/2014 07:52

If there are 100 punters, of whom 50 are "nice"and 50 not so nice, and 25 of the "nice" ones stop being punters because they don't want to be criminals, the number of punters overall has reduced.

Would you agree that that's a good thing?

steven1011 · 13/03/2014 07:53

FloraFox prostitutes do want to have sex with their clients in the same way that tradesmen want to perform tasks such as plumbing in return for payment. The tradesman, like the prostitute doesn't want to provide a service in the absence of payment. Obviously an encounter with a sex worker is of a more intimate nature.

GarthsUncle · 13/03/2014 07:54

We need to tackle societal factors which encourage prostitution

How shall we tackle the societal factors that encourage punters?

steven1011 · 13/03/2014 07:56

GarthsUncle No, if the nice punters reduce leaving the sex worker with not so nice (violent) clients then she is more at risk because she can not discriminate as she could in the past by, for example weeding out violent punters so easily. In any event I am sceptical that total numbers have decreased, it has, more likely moved elsewere such as indoors.
