Worth £16 billion in Germany. Legal to "make it safer".

Interview with 22 yr old Hannah. 6 men per night, earns 100 to 1000 euros per night,

Talking about should it be illegal in the UK and the fact that brothels are safer than the streets. They have super brothels in Germany.

That's rich coming from someone who advocates the nordic model despite virtually all sex workers being opposed to it.

What a lovely thing to do. My faith in humanity is restored. Goodnight :)

AnyFucker · 08/03/2014 07:17

It is quite clear that terricotta joined this thread specifically to scare a vulnerable poster away from a source of support, thus making it more likely she will stay under the control of an abusive man

Well done, you

Top class act isn't it? Sums up the whole 'industry'. Cheap, nasty and spineless.

YoniMatopoeia · 08/03/2014 09:13

Migsy. I hope you are ok. Please don't worry about your details being given out my MN, they simply don't do that. I work in London most days, and if there is anything I can do to help you please pm me, even if it is just hand holding and the use of a phone to call one of the support organisations.

arsenaltilidie · 08/03/2014 09:56

Criminalising punters will just create a market for pimps.

Criminalising punters will not help vulnerable women like Migsy (sorry if I sound patronising).
Access to social services for women like her should be prioritised.
More studies are needed to find out why women enter into the industry. Eg. most prostitutes were abused when young, a fund should be available to help women at risk psychologically. Make £5,000 lifetime fund they can spend on therapy. Basically make access to mental health help as easy as possible.
Start tackling those issues than turning this into a political debate.

LurcioLovesFrankie · 08/03/2014 10:12

Arsenal - in a political climate where the welfare budget is being cut left right and centre, with the rug pulled out from extremely vulnerable people - your suggestions are political (because who's going to fund them? The condem govt? I think not).

You can't tackle a problem like this without politics. Private philanthropy is not going to cut it. And top of my list is a change in attitudes (just like with drink driving, or domestic violence) that says "we, collectively, as a society, do not endorse women being used as fuck toys". And the way to do that is the Nordic model: criminalising the purchase of sex. And, as has been pointed out numerous times already, an integral part of the Nordic model is funding exit programmes for women who wish to leave prostitution.

Discussion just had on Women's Hour. Extremely one-sided and pro-decriminalisation. Getting worried now.

LurcioLovesFrankie · 11/03/2014 11:19

It's the classic astroturfing campaign, isn't it? Think of the way FOREST get trotted out every single time there's a news item on smoking (despite them having about as much relevance as a flat-earther would have to a Horizon programme on gravity). Plus the way the cockroaches crawl out the woodwork onto here every time we have a discussion - now, on this forum, they usually don't stay the distance, but imagine the effect a few paid lobbyists can have on a board with people who are undecided and don't have posters who can immediately link to the relevant research literature/pull the rug out from under spurious arguments?

I think the sex industry lobbyists (by which I mean the pimps who make the money, and organised crime) are actually putting a lot of effort into astroturfing. I don't think any of this stuff is accidental.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 11/03/2014 11:42

Yes, Lurcio. Not only do the punters want to keep on punting but the pimps want to keep on making money this way. They will fight hard to be able to keep doing what they're doing. And they're not exactly ethical people.

GarthsUncle · 11/03/2014 11:47

It's weird how the punters are always "oh, it's so much safer for the sex workers blah blah" and never "I like to pay to fuck women and I'd rather not be a criminal" which at least is a position with some internal logic.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 11/03/2014 11:59

horse - they had the other viewpoint on yesterday's show - you can listen to it on BBC Listen Again.

Missed the show this morning - possibly a good thing from the sounds of it. I've had a belly-full of punter's viewpoints recently. May catch up with it later, if I can stomach it.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 11/03/2014 12:02

Garth - it's not weird, they can't show their true attitude if they want people to be sympathetic to their opinion.
So they pretend to care about the safety of "sexworkers."

insuburbian · 11/03/2014 14:08

brothels must be abolished. because prostituted women working together is a terrible thing. they must work alone!!!

BriarRainbowshimmer · 11/03/2014 14:11

from people that includes a (tiny minority) of punters, cops and "antis" (ie people like yourself)

I don't suppose you've heard of hashtag #whenantisattack?

insuburbian · 11/03/2014 14:22

but we can all rest easy knowing brothels are illegal and any in existence are prone to police raids

www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/11060705.display

Last week in Worcester a door was kicked in by cops (2 women were working there so it is classed as a brothel) and the prostituted women were arrested and taken away in handcuffs! Good job we have that law against brothels!

That will teach them for wanting to work together!

...right?
