Isn't the name of Mumsnet itself sexist?

The Mumsnet slogan is 'By parents for parents', suggesting that it is of course, for mothers and fathers. Yet the name Mumsnet would suggest otherwise. It suggests that the forum is only for women, which in turn conveys the idea that women do more parenting than men.

To be honest, it doesn't irk me that much, but it was just a thought I randomly had, and was wondering other opinions on it.

you lot have been playing with your dinner again haven't you?

😀

I’m not angry...I’m just disappointed 🥺

(Complete bollocks...my mum would never say that, she loved me dearly but fuck me she had a dreadful temper!)

MedusasBadHairDay · 06/12/2020 10:32

@Pappleapple

Toxic. Can anyone on here communicate without anger and passive aggressiveness. Maybe a “parents net” is the way forward and this toxic pool of angry and seemingly ignorant people can just stay here. I can’t imagine the negative influence some people on here have on children. Keep your toxic “mumsnet” ill stay with my friends who know what inclusivity and teamwork are.
Aww did we not fawn enough, were you expecting us to all be in awe of your "superior" debating skills? Sweetheart, you are small fry. Please try harder.
RedDogsBeg · 06/12/2020 11:26

Yes,Medusa it was a very poor effort wasn't it. So many unanswered questions, so many opportunities to lay out the facts and figures and just nothing. No explanation as to why the name Mumsnet is so offensive to the poor wee poster, the fact that this site is very inclusive of all manner of people and opinions just didn't seem to register, a site called Parentsnet would exclude a whole load of the people who post here, but yay! inclusiveness.

DrDavidBanner · 06/12/2020 11:34

Toxic pool of angry and ignorant people 😕. Wait till this guy discovers Twitter!

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 06/12/2020 11:36

Quick out of the blocks, boinged about a bit and then fell in the soup. All very Total Wipeout.

Datun · 06/12/2020 11:48

Certainly not. Now you're discriminating against people who want to fume in a very submissive manner. Staggering bigotry.

RedDogsBeg · 06/12/2020 11:57

Very much a damp squib, didn't even come in with a bang and then fizzle out, very disappointing. Oh no! Am I being too passive aggressive?? Onto the naughty step for me.

Now this is the sort of content that kept me on Mumsnet long after I was done with pureeing vegetable combos for my babies.
ErrolTheDragon · 06/12/2020 12:03

What title can we come up with which conveys the nature of MN vs other websites more inclusively? As explained, 'parentsnet' doesn't work either.

It might have to be something like:
'AnyoneWhoCanPostWithinGuidelinesWhilstAcceptingThatWeirdlyEnough,WomenWithKidsAreTheMostCommonTypeOfMemberNet '

Pappleapple · 06/12/2020 12:27

Toxic people with nothing constructive or intelligent to say. I get it. Bye

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 06/12/2020 12:31

I thought youd gone already papple

Bye

Have a lovely Christmas 🎄

ErrolTheDragon · 06/12/2020 12:42

My alternative name was massively (perhaps excessively) constructive.

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 06/12/2020 12:42

Bye.

Again.

EyesOpening · 06/12/2020 12:43

Security, security, where are you? You let a man in here! Don’t you know men aren’t allowed!

Thelnebriati · 06/12/2020 12:47

What does @Pappleapple have to say about support groups for men with prostate cancer? Are they an evil being weaponized by vile misogynists against equality?

GCAcademic · 06/12/2020 12:49

Is this the third "bye" or the fourth? I can't keep up.

Oh, no preview for the clip... nvm.

pappleapple said in his first comment “It has now closed and that’s good news.” so everyone out and the last person shut the door behind them, please.

He does know we (well me at least) didn’t name the site, doesn’t he?

This will continue until the mansized Kleenex box is empty.

Perfect description of yourself there Pappleapple, so nice to see someone with such a degree of insight into themselves.

Yes what has closed and why is it good news?
CoffeeTeaChocolate · 06/12/2020 13:38

“You are all meenies, no returns, no discussion”

Was that the gist of it? So disappointing. You would loose a discussion in year 6 with those arguments.

Pappleapple · 06/12/2020 14:53

Look at how most of you respond. A man has an opinion and you meet that with criticism, patronising and toxic behaviour. It’s really saddened to witness. Which, evidences my point about what happens when you have single gender groups within a society that needs to work together.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 06/12/2020 15:03

Gosh, it must be hard to type whilst clutching your pearls so hard 😆
