www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2188112/Mother-jailed-making-TWO-false-rape-claims-men-dating-didnt-liaison.html

"Emma Saxon, 23, claimed she had been raped in a supermarket car park
Her alleged attacker was arrested and subjected to medical examination
Police spent 90 hours investigating before concluding it was a hoax"

She was given 8 months (although she could be out in far less than this). What do you think? Should she have been given more prison time or should be have been given something other than prison?

Err.. I was using 'you' as in plural. I wasn't referring to YOU personally, I was referring to anyone who believes being accused of rape is just as traumatic as being raped.

Very telling that you instantly assumed I meant you, and your response was is so strongly worded however...

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 16/08/2012 09:04

Thank you Chairman :)

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/08/2012 09:44

Thanks felicity. I think there are a lot of amazing women on here.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 16/08/2012 09:52

Justme, if you have both been raped and you or someone close to you have been subject to a false rape allegation, then I am sorry that those things happened.

Lurking's post did not come across to me as being specifically about you.

Justme23 · 16/08/2012 09:55

Ok lurking I do apologise. I did take it as a personal comment.

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 16/08/2012 09:58

It's fine, appreciate the apology. :) I'm just a bit confused as to why you assumed I meant you personally?

But I do stand by my previous assessment of people who believe being raped/being accused of rape are equally as bad as one another, and how I feel about them.

Whatmeworry · 16/08/2012 18:05

She did a terrible thing. She was tried and found guilty and she is being punished. I think that should be an end to it

I do hope she gets some kind of treatment in prison, if she can benefit from it, to make her understand what she has done wrong

I agree completely. Punsihment + Treatment.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 16/08/2012 18:58

i've had another post deleated! and this time i cant even remember what it was, i must be on a roll!

must start taking notes.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 16/08/2012 20:26

Your post referenced learning disabilities and mental illness, Meow. Just FYI.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 16/08/2012 22:41

ah yes , indeed. well, did i offend people with learing disabilities? equating them with mental illness? is that why it got deleated?

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 16/08/2012 22:43

Since my last suggestions as to why MNHQ deleted your post didn't go down too well, I won't venture any this time. I'm sure they will clarify if you ask.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/08/2012 22:46

Um, actually, you were more likely to offend people with mental illness.

But yes, since you ask, I was offended.

Disablist posts tend to get deleted on account of contravening talk guidelines.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 16/08/2012 22:54

well christ, walking on eggshells springs to mind.
is it not true that the vast majority of false rape accusations come from women who suffer from some sort of mental illness?
wouldnt that make mental illness relevent on this thread?

i apologise to anyone who suffers from mental illness, i'm not attall suggesting that it's just something they do.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/08/2012 22:57

That's a red herring and you know it.

Ask MNHQ if you really need explaining why that post was deleted.

Pretending you think it was deleted because you mentioned mental illness is pretty dishonest, IMO. I am sure they will have told you why since you've been asking about it for a while (and I imagine have asked them first, as is logical).

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 16/08/2012 23:57

TBH Chairman I reported your post because as someone who suffers from mental illness, I found it very offensive, whether you intended it that way or not.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 17/08/2012 10:09

i'm sorry i offended you lurking, it certianly wasnt intentional.

LRD i'm not being dishonest, in thruth i cant remember exactly what i wrote now.
only once have i asked why a post was deleated and got the standard reply

'we dont allow advertising, personal attacks, lible and goading.'

when i asked them for a more detailed reason they diddnt reply attall.

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 17/08/2012 21:27

It's fine Chairman (I really must stop calling you that, but it would be like caling AnyFucker something different!!!) I know you didn't mean to be offensive but I was offended IYSWIM?

As I read it, that article says that the figure is accurate. 6% of reported rapes result in conviction.

It says that that is the percentage of rapes reported that result in a conviction.

Harman has been ticked off by Baroness Stern because Baroness Stern (god knows why) thinks that it's misleading to tell the truth.

That is a very nasty article (I am suspicious of Baroness Stern referring to 'rape as the term is normally used' because it's dishonest not to discuss the legal definition in this context). But you've twisted what it says even further.

Please stop posting rape myths.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 19/08/2012 20:07

Coming on to post what LRD said.

And obviously to say how nice it was to see you back, OP Hmm

If you're not sure what to believe, I'd widen your search from the Daily Mail comments section.

Advanced Search on here would give you links to many rape statistics.
