Apologies if there has already been a thread on this.

Bj strap

I actually don't know what to say about this.

This thread is years old and inactive. If you've found this page in search of Ann Summers products that have been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best Ann Summers sex toys useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ 💐

AsCorruptAsWhisky you might as well ask 'is it still hitting?' if it is truly consensual.

Yes. It is.

(Although consent is a problematic concept for feminists, for reasons outlined already on the thread.)

SinicalSanta · 22/03/2012 16:49

Your questions have been answered Corrupt.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 22/03/2012 16:50

Hitting has a definitive meaning. Abuse is more objective. (Correct me if I'm wrong, please.)

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/03/2012 16:51

oh yes they do sell BJ straps in John Lewis Grin

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 16:54

Lol plenty

LeBOF · 22/03/2012 16:54

You are missing vast swathes of what people have been explaining too. It's not just safety vs. abuse potential. It's the social messages it sends out about what women are "for", what female sexuality is, and what constitutes a run of the mill bit of play in a relationship. People have already described their experiences as young women, and the fact that practices like anal sex are now expected as routine by teenagers inured to the mainstreaming of pornographic practices, and if a girl doesn't want to do it, she is seen as prudish and unadventurous.

I don't understand how you have collapsed all that into safety and abuse.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 22/03/2012 16:55

It's £3 more expensive in JL, though.

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 22/03/2012 16:57

I was addressing it to the specific posters that had posted before, when that hadn't been mentioned. I have already explained my point of view on the other aspect.

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 16:57

Is there evidence more teenagers are having anal? Genuine question btw

LeBOF · 22/03/2012 16:59

I mentioned it at 01:39 last night, and it's been elaborated on a lot since then.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 22/03/2012 16:59

Errr excuse me for thinking that real sexual empowerment is a completely subjective thing. Or are all women supposed to have sex a certain way to conform to certain feminist ideals.

I can understand others moral objections on this but deciding what is 'real' and what is not, is a bit much for me. What empowers one person doesn't empower another.

Besides which, I'm baffled as to why anyone would pay £12 for this product. Surely this will limit the number Ann Summers flog. It just proves that they just sell overpriced tat. Plentyofpubegardens you really should have found a cheaper alternative!

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 22/03/2012 17:00

"the shared attitude of the partners engaged in the act" from Beachcomber's link to consensual abuse. If they are both enjoying it, what makes it wrong? (The fact that I am asking shows that I don't understand, so perhaps you need to explain it again, if you want to.)

LeBOF · 22/03/2012 17:00

Starwisher- there is certainly anecdotal evidence from youth workers and sexual health workers. But I'm not about to google teenagers and anal sex for the statistics, for obvious reasons.

LineRunner · 22/03/2012 17:03

I don't have a 'moral objection,' though.

I've said what I do object to about this artefact and its advertising. I thought I was quite pithy, actually.

LeBof you are a big wuss for not googling that.

Just need to know what to put in to not get unwanted links.

Linky to prove your point
(yes it is safe - its about a scientific survey done by Indiana University)

Interestingly, if you read the whole article, the orgasm data seems interesting to say the least (it surprised me and made me raise an eyebrow).

AsCorruptAsWhisky · 22/03/2012 17:16

The reciprocity of oral sex was also interesting. Suggests that there is actually a decline in the idea that women are there for the pleasure of men.

Beachcomber · 22/03/2012 17:21

I'm not saying it is wrong. I'm saying it is abuse. That's all.

I'm not making a moral judgement - I'm naming and analysing. It is not for me to decide what is right or wrong for other people. That is not what feminism is about.

Feminism is a political movement, not a moral one.

Nobody need worry that feminism is about taking people's sexual practices away from them. It isn't.

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 17:26

But if you don't want to take people practices away then why are people encouraging each other to write to Ann summers to remove the product?

SigmundFraude · 22/03/2012 17:26

'Nobody need worry that feminism is about taking people's sexual practices away from them. It isn't.'

Well, apart from the ones who linked to Ann Summers contact details, demanding the product detailed in the OP be removed.

SigmundFraude · 22/03/2012 17:26

x-posts

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 17:27

Cross post there sigmund

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 17:27

And again!

ClothesOfSand · 22/03/2012 17:30

Asking Ann Summers not to stock a product does not take away people's choice to have their head constrained while giving a blow job. They can either use another bit of material or go to another shop.

Asking for it to be removed would simply have meant that it was not in a high street store, and would have to be purchased from somewhere that was only visible to adults.

If you are old enough to have your head constrained, you're old enough to obtain items to do it with that are not on the high street.

Although I think we have now established that it is not for sale in the stores, so the need to write to AS has gone.
