Even with quotation marks, I really loathe the use of "honour killing".

Talk about misuse of the word "honour"

Hey I know! Why don't the lovely chaps that wrote the honour code that oppresses them as much as the women they are Forced To Kill, write another one that's just a little less murderous! Good plan.

I think the term "honour" killing is pretty foul. I prefer the term "barbaric" and don't mind the connotations that the murderers are barbarians.
I similarly object to the term "female genital mutilation" and would prefer if it was referred to as "child butchery."
I don't give a shit about the "culture" or "faith" of the perpetrators. They are a sub-species of humanity and should be shunned like lepers.
Actually, that is unfair to lepers who have a right to walk the earth.

Hullygully · 08/09/2011 14:21

See? bob agrees that the honour code oppresses women after all! Good show bob.

CalatalieSisters · 08/09/2011 14:21

Jesus, is this what passes for debate on the feminist threads these days?

Hullygully · 08/09/2011 14:22

Sorry, Jesus is at lunch at the moment. I'll leave him a memo.

Beachcomber · 08/09/2011 14:23

I tell you what I think.

a) Men have been making up the rules for a long time.

b) they are shite at it. (please refer to honour killings, etc.)

I think the problem here is that Bob and Edd are talking about how a code of "honour" affects men, when everyone else is trying to talk about the revolting practice of the murder of women because of a refusal to marry someone they don't want to, or because they've fallen in love with someone or any other myriad of reasons.

But having watched Bob and Ed (they sound like a comedy duo, like Little and Large or something, only not funny. Not funny at all.) for a few weeks now the derailment of this thread is hardly a surprise,

MitchiestInge · 08/09/2011 14:25

feel free to raise the general standard

I can't help, I am going to have a bath and inspect an annoying ingrown minge hair

MitchiestInge · 08/09/2011 14:26

(first bit of my post was to calataliesisters, rest is for everybody)

Hullygully · 08/09/2011 14:27

See BobnEdd, the slight difficulty is that if women try to have a little wordette with the chaps about how the code is a bit on the unfair side, the code demands that they get bumped off for being uppity. Bit of a no-win situation.

TheCrackFox · 08/09/2011 14:28

Everybody is welcome to post here. Doesn't mean that i have to agree with what everybody posts, though.

Beachcomber · 08/09/2011 14:29

And thank you for your generosity Mitch Grin

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 08/09/2011 14:29

Feel free to contribute CalatalieSisters if you think you can raise the level of debate. I think most of us would welcome that.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 08/09/2011 14:29

Grin Mitch

Hullygully · 08/09/2011 14:30

I'd like it if you used long words too. And really complex sentences with difficult syntax and challenging punctuation.

Bob and Edd?

I like, time to write this one off to the BBC to get a budget

Bob can be the intelligent one of many words but highly calculating, deadpan and passive aggressive. I'll be the clumsy illiterate one who provedes the slapstick

The premise of episode one will be Bob and Edd meet some radfems outside the 30 St Mary Axe building on London and get caught up in a plot to destroy it

TheCrackFox · 08/09/2011 14:33

Bob, we are truly, truly sorry for all the wrongs women have committed against man since time immemorial. Can we go back to discussing feminist stuff now?

Wamster · 08/09/2011 14:34

Perhaps it would be better to put the words 'so-called' in front of 'honour killings'? But I doubt that will catch on.

"Murder in the name of a Medieval Patriarchal Code" works for me.
