I think it's a shame when I see threads where the OP says 'I am too scared to put this in feminism' or something.

I am certainly not knowledgeable about feminist theory, but have never felt that my opinion on this thread wasn't wanted or I was vilified for stating what I believed.

I think this topic is pretty inclusive - yes some people are forthright with their opinions, but nobody's word is god, and I would hate to think that mumsnetters were put off contributing to threads in this topic because they mistakenly think the posters on here are viragos. Grin

I didn't like Clacton

I reserve the right to never go back to that hell hole

HerBeX · 14/07/2011 22:29

Yes and I'd like Belgium to be more like Italy

In fact, I'd like pretty much most places to be more like Italy. Without Berlusconi and the busts of Mussolini, obv...

PeterAndreForPM · 14/07/2011 22:31

Clacton should be more like, erm, Barcelona

or summat

HerBeX · 14/07/2011 22:31

Oh you are so wrong about Clacton
What a wonderful beach

SybilBeddows · 14/07/2011 22:33

I do agree Clacton would be improved by being more like Barcelona. Just don't mess with my beloved Bridlington.

SybilBeddows · 14/07/2011 22:34

yeah but HerBex, imagine if it kept the beach and you could get tapas there.

Goblinchild · 14/07/2011 22:35

I like Bridlington. I used to sit on the beach with a book of sagas and imagine the Northmen sweeping in over the North Sea.
Then I'd have to run up and down a bit to avoid freezing to death.

Catitainahatita · 14/07/2011 22:37

Goth Then give us some pointers on what else we could be reading please. If there is one thing I have learnt from my lurking is that Riven has pointed to some very interesting reads on the subject of muslim feminism. It's a multiway thing here; noone just gives/preaches and expects to be obeyed; all of us give/preach a bit and then listens, reads and digests what others offer too. I say all and we because I'm most definitely projecting how I use this board. Please feel free to tell me if noone else actually does this.

HerBeX · 14/07/2011 22:38

mmm, tapas.... yum

I once shagged on a beach.

Grin
HerBeX · 14/07/2011 22:39

I just order books that keep being recommended and then they sit on my shelf gathering dust

I find that's a good technique for me....

PeterAndreForPM · 14/07/2011 22:40

I did too, HerBex

it was crap

Well if we are going to confess:
I have no access to most of the books I want to read, I always end up looking for the review or other accounts on the web.
One day I will get my kindle/tablet and on that day I shall lock myself somewhere and read solidly while the world goes to pot around me.

HerBeX · 14/07/2011 22:44

Oh it was great when I did it.

You obviously chose the wrong beach.

See, you shouldn't have dismissed Clacton so quickly.

AnyFucker · 14/07/2011 22:45

it was Benidorm beach (oh the shame)

have name changed back, btw

the sand was merciless

AnyFucker · 14/07/2011 22:45

I prefer a nice jetty

SinicalSal · 14/07/2011 22:46

I did it on a clifftop on a stormy moonlit night.

regards,
Smuggy

Goblinchild · 14/07/2011 22:46

One of the great things about Brighton is the number of good secondhand books you can pick up. Kemptown is particularly good for feminist and gay literature. So I've acquired several interesting reads for a fraction of the price. It only works if you aren't in a hurry though.

AnyFucker · 14/07/2011 22:47

thread will soon be full

good

Goblinchild · 14/07/2011 22:48

Oh, you've moved on and down into location, location location and shagging?
OK.
I've got a long list as it's been a hobby of mine for 35 years. Smile

Yes Goblinchild - I couldn't help feeling you'd rather missed the point with your Brighton bookshop post

sunshineandbooks · 14/07/2011 22:51

Would have to be a sandy beach though, wouldn't it. I mean, sand can be annoying (I had a blanket so it was ok), but imagine going for it on a pebbly beach. Ouch! Grin

My weirdest places - Vesuvius and Tintern Abbey.

Hmmm.

HerBeX · 14/07/2011 22:52

Brighton would be a very poor choice of beach for shagging

But excellent for books as Goblinchild points out

Catitainahatita · 14/07/2011 22:53

Only outdoor location was a park somewhere in Barcelona. Don't remember the name. I only remember having to climb over the gates to get out since we being otherwise engaged we didn't notice the time nor the gate being locked.
