A solidarity thread

Diplomacy is not my thing, but I try.

After this weeks events I thought I would start a thread with the express aim of expressing solidarity with the world wide web's feminists and the MN ones in particular.

Also because I came upon these:

Sorry but I am not putting them in as links on purpose, because I don't want them to link back here (and if you cut and paste them into your browser and put in the dots you will see why.) Both are anti-MN sites, both of whose number one enemy appears to be the feminist/women's right section.

Let's not pander to them, I say. They are the only ones who want to shut this board down and shut us up.

completely agree - and trying to stifle the rad fem message because it may not always be comfortable listening for us, or we may not agree with it, or may not like the way it is put over, doesn't mean it should be supressed. This section would be a poorer place without it and would stagnate. Hope that made some kind of sense.

the success of the MN feminism section over the last year has been quite impressive; there are so, so many feminists on MN, it is really inspiring. It makes my head spin to think that there are people who object to Mumsnet so much that they set up entire websites devoting to bitching about it (and note, it's not just the feminism topic they talk about, it's threads people are posting in Relationships and elsewhere on the board as well) but it is a sign of how threatened they feel simply by women talking.

I love the MN Feminists, the feminist section lurkers and the large number of MNers who don't hang out here but do post seriously feminist stuff all over MN all the time.

Had a laugh at that facebook one. Let them waste their time getting their knickers in a twist over us. If we are pissing off the MRA establishment it means we must be doing something right.

Total agreement with you both. I just hope I can opt out of the singing... we've already had the equivalent of a year's rainfall in the last week over here!

I love the feminists of Mumsnet. To me they are like armadillos; tough on the outside but softer in the middle!

The section can be tough going sometimes but so can any other talk topic.

I may not always agree with all points made here but I WILL stand and support any of its members who educate, help, and assist other members on a daily basis. It saddens me that anyone is against a woman helping another woman.

The fear of women speaking to one another that attracts this level of venom is remarkable.

And it is good that the tactics that are used a plain to see.

And yes, this isn't just about the feminist section.

What a bunch of sad twats. They make it sound like the MN Feminist section is the breeding ground for undercover feminist terrorists!!

I can just see it: They'll be a picture of me on TV looking well dodgy after having blown up the Houses of Patriarchy Parliament and my mum will be on TV shaking her head in bewilderment, saying "She was such a lovely daughter, such a good mum, but those nasty Mumsnetters got to her - brainwashed her, they RADICALIZED her!", sob, sob.

I think the bullying on here in recent days has been disgusting.

Signing in too. I love the anger and the passion in this section and MN would be less of a place without it. There aren't many spaces where women are "allowed" to do that. I only found out recently that this section had only been up and running for a relatively short period of time, in comparison to MN. It is amazing that for so long, on a pre-dominantly female site that womens rights wasn't a topic in its own right. I don't want to lose it. In many ways it has had a profund affect on my life in the last 12 months, as has dittany and for that I am grateful.

Plus anything that gets the MRAs up in arms has got to be a good thing .

so true about the value of having a space where we can be angry about the things that happen to women.

Dittany's unapologetic anger is an inspiration.
