Feminism chat thread II

1000 replies

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/02/2011 00:30

Since it looks like the first chat thread is about to fill up, here's the next one all ready and waiting.

Think of it as the gated commune with babysitting on demand and gorgeous poolboys serving the drinks :o

Can I have a kiss too?

I just fell over backwards over DDs scooter in the hall, and hit my head and bent my fingers back Sad

I knew that tidying up would lead to no good.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 04/03/2011 20:38

oh, they're not better yet, one more little kiss and then you'll find it will have stopped hurting in a couple of minutes

(am expert)

AliceWorld · 04/03/2011 20:40

Never tidy, it's never a good idea Grin

Did anyone else watch the one show earlier? And were you pissed off with the women waxing men bit, with all the stuff of women usually doing this for their men, so they're going to inflict some pain, and all the men being in pain, and bleurgh.

SardineQueen · 04/03/2011 20:48

Aw thanks. Was a shameless cry for pity, DH is at work. I also have a big bruise on my bum.

So you're all off to MWR tomorrow - I would love to be there - shout a slogan from me!

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 04/03/2011 21:03

ok, which one would you like us to shout?

SardineQueen · 04/03/2011 21:06

Um... is there a list of options?

How about a slogan relating to how women shouldn't bear the brunt of the unpaid work because they're liable to randomly go flying and hurt their bum

vesuvia · 04/03/2011 21:07

sakura wrote - "there are some dodgy clothes available for girls here, well mainly little skirts and pop socks but that creates a sort of prostitute look doesn't it."

Have you seen the apparently invisible skirts worn by some girls and women in Japan?.

I know they were available there in about 2003. The skirts have images of underwear on the outside of an opaque skirt to give the illusion that the skirt is transparent.

AliceWorld · 04/03/2011 21:10

snopes says false

vesuvia · 04/03/2011 21:38

AliceWorld, thanks for that.

Unrulysun · 04/03/2011 22:00

Blimey feel the love :) and this on MN where every hug has to be accompanied by a disclaimer! (have never got that, can anyone explain it?)

Hey, totally with you on short stories usually - I find them deeply unsatisfying, but AC's from what I remember (a while since I have read them), are rich and resonate.

ForkfulOfTabouleh · 05/03/2011 20:05

interesting thread in AIBU about whether in relationships board posters are too quick to cry "leave him"....

notenoughsocks · 05/03/2011 20:43

Hi all. I don't know if this allowed. But I want to start my first thread in the area of MN where I feel most happy and comfortable. But am nervous, so wanted to run it by you for thoughts and advice (is that ok?).

I wanted to call it 'I'm a feminist but...' Like, for example, I'm a feminist but love baking and crochet - which are not things which are normally (read stereotypically) associated with feminists and feminism. I want to do the thread out of curiosity. Also, have been inspired by all those posts that read, e.g. I'm not a feminist because I'm a sahm/don't have an independent income/don't hate men etc..

Any advice/thoughts would be gratefully accepted.

I can see it turning into a bunfight! Do you think it would be interesting as it would show what people's stereotypes of feminists are? So eg if I came on and said "I wear makeup" then it is exposing my stereotypical belief that feminists don't wear makeup. If you post it in feminism though I would hope that none of the people on here have stereotypical ideas about what feminists do/look like!

I think the title would need wording carefully Grin
