I just thought it would be nice to have a thread on people waiting for smear results

I've just had my first one and currently waiting two weeks , I'm quite anxious as they found cervix ecropian and I've been having bleeding after sex

Anyone interested in joining for a hand hold and to support each other?

Called my GP this morning... wait times are 6-8 weeks!!!! Not the three I was told by the nurse! Very annoying!!

DivisionBelles · 11/06/2019 19:53

Some of these wait times are crazy! I'm in the SW, and mine came back within a fortnight. All clear, or no HPV which is how they test now apparently.

lemonjumper · 12/06/2019 18:01

DivisionBelles that is great! I'm in Scotland and we switch to HPV primary screening next year. I suspect in a few years we'll see a shift to alternative methods of testing for HPV (urine test, self swab etc.) and women will only be called for cervical smear if HPV is positive.

butterflykiss00 hope your appointment goes well tomorrow!

butterflykiss00 · 12/06/2019 19:47

@lemonjumper Thankyou :)

@BertieDrapper hopefully you hear back within the next week or so 🤞🏻

11 weeks today. Just rang doctors and said my smear was all clear. Receptionist also said that the hospital don't send letters out to you anymore, only to the doctors so might be worth a ring if anybody has been waiting a while.

butterflykiss00 · 13/06/2019 09:20

@lulabaloo good news!!

Prompted by lulllabaloo 's post I called the surgery , results are taking 8-10 weeks and mine are not back yet.

Pipandmum · 13/06/2019 15:07

I had mine over a month ago. It was really painful this time. Nurse had to really root around to get a clear view. She recommended oestrogen cream for next time. She said it was my she (57) and therefore not so elastic down there (I also had c sections). Also said I won’t have another fit five years now and that one will probably be my last.

lemonjumper · 15/06/2019 07:56

butterflykiss00 glad you have seen some progress! How long do you think you'll wait for the next appointment?

anitagreen argh! So frustrating. Did they call you back as promised?

Pipandmum sorry it was painful for you this time. Great to think you might only have one more though!

katieeacton · 15/06/2019 08:36

Went for my smear 2 weeks, the doc did an internal exam before doing the smear, ive had 2 previous tests and cant remember having an internal beforehand, has this happened to anyone else? Still waiting for results, was told 2 weeks, im in Manchester.

lemonjumper · 15/06/2019 11:51

Never had that before katieeacton, though on my latest one the nurse did palpate the skin area around the outside Hmm saying she was checking glands or something. A first for me! Maybe some like to be thorough?!

butterflykiss00 · 15/06/2019 22:21

@LIZS how long has it been now?

@lemonjumper she said I should get a letter in a couple of weeks 🙂

@katieeacton no they didn't do an internal at my smear, if by internal you mean a good feel around and feel of the tummy as well as inside, she did have a good look at cervix though as you would imagine she would have to anyway ha!

Maybe some do like to thorough or maybe something triggered them to look like symptoms or a spot or something

@anitagreen how far along are you now?

OP posts:
LIZS · 16/06/2019 06:34

9 weeks so far

katieeacton · 16/06/2019 08:39

@lemonjumper
@butterflykiss00

Im not sure, just said he would like to do a quick internal ( it was yes inside with a hand pressing my stomach down )before taking my smear. It was a bit of a surprize tbh didnt take more than a minute. I thought maybe thats part of the test after you turn 30?

butterflykiss00 · 16/06/2019 10:20

@LIZS hoplefully u hear back in The next week x

@katieeacton I'm 25 so not sure about the 30 thing but it's gotta be a good thing , they should all do it !

matildawormwoood · 16/06/2019 10:40

Got my first smear tomorrow ahhh, really nervous! Can't wait to get it over with.

katieeacton · 16/06/2019 11:11

@matildawormwoood

It a good idea to tell the dr or nurse you feel a bit nervous if you are. Try to relax your tummy, and when you feel the speculum being put in take long deep breaths and when they start to open it just try and keep your breathing slow and calm. Good luck for tomo, it is great your going, the test doenst hurt, it just feels a bit ackward. Treat yourself to a glass of wine afterwards. Kate

anitagreen · 16/06/2019 17:39

@butterflykiss00 I'm nearly 11 weeks now x

anitagreen · 16/06/2019 17:40

@lemonjumper They did just said please 3 more weeks then we'll know what's happened which isn't helpful as I was told that nearly 3 weeks ago Shock

butterflykiss00 · 16/06/2019 20:22

@anitagreen awww I bet your so exited 🙂
