Anyone else excited about the women's euros? I'd love to follow the progress of the teams (especially England) with any football-supporting Mumsnetters. Thrilled that it's a home tournament, commiserations to Scotland and Wales for not making it through qualification. Huge congratulations to NI, qualifying for the very first time.

Doesn't have to be just match-related, either - comments on the background to each women's team (especially from non-British fans), and of course the kits all welcomed.

Most goals ever scored at a Euro, womens or men's.

Beth, we love you

Pushing30 · 11/07/2022 21:58

Brilliant match!

Rooster25 · 11/07/2022 22:15

I want England to go one step further than the men and win the whole thing, put the middle finger up so to speak. They played absolutely superb tonight, but for me there is only one team that can beat them and that is France, which would be the final. Praying I am wrong! 😃

Boobygirl · 11/07/2022 22:20

Loved every minute! Enjoying the interviews with some of the Lionesses and the coach too

You're wrong. Trust me: I'm an accountant ..... 😮

SweetSenorita · 11/07/2022 22:37

Seriously, Rooster ...... we got this 😍

DuncinToffee · 11/07/2022 22:38

I am Dutch so will support the Netherlands but I can't see them win the tournament.
Will be happy with England to win.

Rooster25 · 11/07/2022 22:42

On paper we have the best team and squad. I just worry about how we will deal with a team who is comfortable without the ball and have an explosive counter which France have.

pogostickplastique · 11/07/2022 23:00

I wasn't thrilled by the road closures but happy they're through and being acknowledged

1002 and that's what matters, you can love sport and not be sporty, it can still mean something and matter and still do you the world of good even if you don't play.

Exactly this. My 17yr old dd has been quietly following them for a few years.
What has been lovely is she has got her grandad (massive men’s football fan) into the women’s game and it has brought them closer together to the point they discuss the England team all the time and the women’s premiership and my dad is gobsmacked at her knowledge- he was texting her throughout tonight’s match how much he was enjoying it.
My dd couldn’t kick a ball if her life depended on it but she is a ferocious women’s football fan!
I think it is fantastic!

@DuncinToffee
I've emailed MN to ask for the thread to be moved/merged with the one on the Euros board.
Is that the way to do it or should I report myself, or something like that?

😂 Cruel!

I think that's fine, thanks Bella

DuncinToffee · 12/07/2022 08:49

Haha just noticed the thread is now in Women's Euro 2022 Football

justbesensible · 12/07/2022 08:55

Fun match! What great team playing!

Am partially disabled so can’t play but I still love watching!

BellaAmorosa · 12/07/2022 09:24

@Rooster25
I agree that France looks like the biggest threat. But Germany and Sweden are almost as dangerous.
The results so far, especially last night's, emphasise two things IMO.
1 Football is a team game. You're only as good as your weakest players. At this level, star players can't win the competition on their own. England have so much depth, as do France, Germany and Spain (although I don't think Spain score enough).
2 The quality of the coach is so important. How Sjogren (sp?) kept his job after Norway got knocked out in the group stage 5 years ago is beyond me! And Phil Neville to Sarina Wiegman is a huge step up.

this is lovely but its really important we get the wording right of the women’s game. It’s the women’s super league not premiership.

In case people aren't aware of this, you can watch the matches live and for free via the FA Player

The WSL fixture list for 22/23 will be released today at 3pm

mogtheexcellent · 12/07/2022 10:40

I caught the end of it with my non sleeping due to heat 8 yo. I dont actually like football but its probably because the mens game is a bit shite. I enjoyed this match. Sad norway didnt do better as Im part norwegian. Non sporty DD was impressed.

We are looking forward to the next match now.

Annoyingly there is very little press mention about this. England won 8-nil. the mens game would have had back to back tv coverage and front page headlines Hmm

BellaAmorosa · 12/07/2022 11:09

@mogtheexcellent
The difference in coverage is stark! And there are always men people complaining that the tiny amount of women's football on telly or in the media is "shoving it down their throats". 🙄

But the more people see Women's football the more they want to see. That's the consistent pattern of the last few years. So the haters will fall away eventually. 🤗

@DuncinToffee
Thanks, I didn't know that. Will look out for it.
I have a soft spot for the Netherlands Oranje leuwinnen (hope I've spelled that right) and their fantastic fans. The last Women's Euros was soooo good!

mogtheexcellent · 12/07/2022 13:11

even the daily mash has picked up on the absence of press coverage...

lionesses 8-0 win would be front page news for whole year if men did it

DuncinToffee · 12/07/2022 17:16

Supporting Denmark today, we got our toffee Sevecke playing.

Bad news for Holland, Miedema has tested positive for covid.
